Official Discussion: 7.12 "Potential"

Maybe Spike can only kill when the FE is controlling him; I'm guessing the FE is stronger than the chip or any pain it produces.

When Spike is "himself", like when he knocked Xander out of the way in "Sleepers", and got into a fight with the demon and "Red Robes" in "Help", the chip seemed to activate just fine.
What about when he twisted Vi's arm in this episode. She winced a little in pain, but he didn't even twitch.

Doesn't the upcoming episode "The Killer in Me" have something to do with his chip? I try not to read the spoilers, but I thought I saw something about them explaining the chip deal in the next episode.

But, I thought that the FE already took care of the chip thing? Thats what they were talking about right? In the ep where Spike was taken from the basement?

I think it has something to do with "malicious intent" he wasn't REALLY trying to hurt her. He didn't want to kill her or hurt her. That kind of this.

And I don't remember anyone saying anything about the FE taking care of the chip.

That sort of ties in with the episode in S5(?) when she asks Spike to show her how he killed his two Slayers. They're outside the Bronze, and he demonstrates some rapid (and unsuccessful) fighting moves at Buffy and then says, "I knew I couldn't touch you, so the chip didn't activate."

but then in a WAY older ep hes got like (a fake?) gun and he cant even point it at them without the chip kicking in
GAPPY PLOTLINE THINGY

ooooohhhhh i so love xander, gotta love a man and his life altering speeches

Im from England, but i still managed to see it all, thanx to the glory that is the interent anyway.
I thought Amanda was so nice, she seemed so innocent, and what a twist!
And Xander's speech with Dawn, i was nearly crying!

Amanda had that kind of innocent vibe hanging over her, she also has a shot at being the next slayer. I was very surprised by Dawns behavior, at first a little childish, but later with pain in her heart she did the mature thing, she's growing up! ... As for Xanders speech, I don't think I need to explain, do I?

Yeah! What happened to the Lizzy Mguire girl? Did they suddenly forget her at Burger King or something?

I was wondering the same exact thing... Maybe She died?

I agree with The First. I absolutely loved this episode! From the moment I saw the words 'Written by Rebecca Rand Kirshener" I knew I would love it, and I did. She's my favorite writer on the show, other than Joss and I loved all of her eppys so far.

I too was wondering what happened to the other SIT. I was happy with the twist ending, Dawn being a SiT is just too cliched for me. I actually like Amanda. She didn't get the job based on her looks, and she plays her part well, although she was very skinny.

The exchange between Xander and Dawn at the end was excellent. very nearly one of my favorite moments of the season, it almost had me in tears, but I'm a sap so hey!

I have a theory about the next Slayer though. I still think it will be Dawn. Buffy was never an SiT remember and Joss likes to surprise us as seen in this episode. What better to have someone not even an SiT becoming the nest slayer, although I'm not sure if I'd want this since the exchange between her and Xander would be less meaningful in a way. My money is still on her becoming the nest slayer. Please note, that that is not a spoiler. Just my speculation. 😀

I thought Amanda had definite SIT potential when I remembered that in "Help" she'd been sent to see Buffy for beating up a guy who was picking on her. 🙂 Clearly, being skinny had not been a handicap for her on that occasion.

She was very convincingly flaky, too, but supposedly when Buffy was called, she was just another ditsy cheerleader.

Well, we'll see if *any* of the SITs we've met (including or not including Dawn) gets called. I half suspect someone will come bursting out of the blue like Kendra and Faith did.

I like her, though she may be skinny, I don't really see the problem in that, like Slayer can't have anorexia (sp?), she also seems very sweet, wich to me is even more important!

I could see dawn as being the next slayer because in season 5 i believe (sorry not to up on my seasons) with glory it talked about how Dawn was made from a part of buffy... so why couldnt dawn inherit some of those slaying powers along with everything else that created her... just speculation
