Official Discussion: 7.17 "Lies my Parents Told Me"

there are always SITs, some of them are found by the watchers council and trained before they become slayers, some of them aren't...... like buffy... when the slayer dies one of them is called....

btw, there's no watchers council no more.... they kinda got blown

So if the episode is entitled "Lies My Parents Told Me" then wouldn't we be led to believe that Joyce was lying to Dawn when she appeared to her? I can't really think of anything else the ep. title may be referring to...

Not having read any of the spoilers, the title could just be expanding on the Sunnydale/Hellmouth denial syndrome: "No, dear, there's no such thing as vampires, demons, apocalypses..."

i hate waiting

in my world d have a little bit of each parent, you know things they told you that you built your life on that it turns out arent true
like there really are things in the dark, yes we got divorced because of you, or like find out fun stuff like that the reason spike killed nicki is cause of the whole 'to kill a slayer you have to love her' type thing
i dont know
mainly i wanna find out about the joyce scenario
so dawnie can stop having a wiggins about the whole thing

2 more days!!!!!!!!! That's it!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited about watching this ep. I've missed Buffy soooo much, and since Willow was on Angel and picked up Faith while she was there, I'm so excites to see what's gonna happen.

Wait, I'm confused... I thought Faith wasn't coming back to Buffy until "Dirty Girls" because she's supposed to only be in the last five episodes. However, it would make sense for her to be back now since she's already left Angel.

Also, about Joyce from "Conversations With Dead People." What the heck was up with that demon thingy trying to attack Joyce? Was that ever explained? It couldn't have been the First because the First can't move objects (i.e. Dawn)... weird. So maybe since the demon guy wasn't the First then Joyce wasn't either. While Willow and Andrew obviously met the First (and Buffy's guy was just a regular vampire), maybe Dawn's situation really was disconnected and doesn't have anything to do with the First. I hope some of this gets cleared up in "Lies My Parents Told Me"!

I just finished watching the wildfeed cap of the ep, marking it spoilers because this is pre-discussion. Warning though, I'll go through the episode and add a few comments in a brief summary. So unless you are ready to have the entire episode spoiled, dont read!! And oh Faith wasnt in this episode.

I loved the episode, it brought up a lot of unresolved issues such as Woods vendetta with Spike. Spikes past as well as what the song means to him. The episode also had a comeback for Giles, all though unfortunately as a total jackass.

Giles brought back a device, well a stone that burried into the cranium of Spike to find the key to the trigger, the memory. And so the memory was presented before Spike but only the song itself, he had no idea what it meant. That was when Wood talked to Giles about killing Spike because he is a danger, all though Wood just has a personal vendetta.

This is where Giles actually agrees to it, so they set things up and Giles starts to stall Buffy on the cemetary taking up an important issue while doing so. The issue which is "Are you ready to make sacrifices?", she was of course ready to make sacrifices - even so her sister when she was asked.

Meanwhile Wood had trapped Spike in his "crib" with crosses nailed to the walls, and he played the "trigger" song to bring out the beast in Spike. While Spike is revisiting his past Wood is beating the hell outa him, he deals with his past being turning his mother into a vampire and seeing the true beast, the demon of the vampire. Comparing his mother to the demon that now is, how lovely she used to be and how evil she is. She looked down on Spike, and even umh made a 'pass' on him. What boggles me is that Spike was upset by this as a vampire, he almost started crying and then he staked his mother and said "I'm sorry".

Spike wakes up from his visiting in the past and stops Wood from staking him, he then beats the crap outa Wood while explaining how slayers only care about their mission, and he explains how he now learned that it wasnt his mother that told him those things - it was the demon.

Buffy arrives after realizing Giles is stalling her and finds Wood half unconcious having been drained blood, Spike says the words "If he even so much as looks at me funny, I'll kill him". Buffy enters the 'crib' and talks to wood, she says "If you try anything again he'll kill you, but the important thing is..I'll let him".

Ok after a summary of the episode id like to comment on it, I loved how they delt with Woods issues with Spike simultaneously as they delt with his trigger. Giles also showed to BUffy that sacrifices must be made, this is what led her to say that to Wood.

It's good that they cleared these things up cause the next episode I think is the one that starts the finishing story arc, the 5 episode long "battle".

Bummers, I was soooo looking forward to the buffy/faith reunion. They didn't exactly part on good terms. I guess we're just gonna have to wait until the next episode which isn't until like Mid-April or so. :🙄:

Yeah there were talks of Orpheus (Faith's final ep on Angel before coming to Buffy) being delayed since the timeline actually goes like this:

"Salvage" (Angel)
"Release" (Angel)
"Lies My Parents Told Me" (Buffy)
"Orpheus" (Angel)
"Dirty Girls" (Buffy)

so yes, we're going to have to wait until April 22nd to see Faith on Buffy. In LMPTM might we see willow getting the phone call from fred to help ensoul angel? (rhetorical question)

At least the Buffy drought ends tonight. We get one episode though, and then are forced to wait another month. Well poop. 🙁

According to TVTome, Dirty Girls has been bumped up to April 15, with two more epps airing in the subsequent weeks, only to have The first Tuesday of May be a re-run so that we'd have to wait that one week for the final two episodes. Bah.
