Conversations with Dead People

AND WHERE WERE YOU? - While hunting for vampires at the cemetery, Buffy runs into a former classmate-turned-vampire and ends up turning to him for therapy. Meanwhile, Willow is interrupted at the library by the recently dead Cassie (or some form of her) who claims to have a message for Willow from Tara. Dawn returns home to find Joyce attempting to reach her from beyond, but some force prevents her from doing so. Nick Marck directed the episode written by Jane Espenson and Drew Goddard.

I bloody loved it!!!!

5 different story arcs going on I enjoyed 4 of them, I didnt like the whole Jonathan, Andrew Warren arc!!!

I enjoyed the episode alot, it only aired last night and I have watched it 3 times already!!!

I love Dawn even more now, she was good in CWDP!!!
Willow was grand as usual!!!

I like Cassie!!! Is that the last we see of her because I would like her to be in it again I like the way she talks!!!

Buffy looked nice in CWDP!!!

Spike is back to his old ways, how??? He has a soul!!!

I enjoyed this episode like I have with all of season 7!!!

'From Beneath You It Devours'

I love you Dawn!!!

Oh one last thing, the song which played at the beginning then the end, I like it!!!
Anyone know who sung it???

I thought this was by far the best episode of season 7 so far. I was really annoyed becuase i knew Joyce was coming back in this episode, but as we got closer to Dawn seeing her, it either went to a break or cut!
I think that everything in this episode was geneious, well, maybe apart from Buffy and Webster, that was jsut annoying. When Dawn was trying to banish that thing that was with Joyce, and her mouth was bleeding, dont you think that she looked like something of the Exorcist? VERY SCARY.

Whoa - what an ep!
Lots of questions raised there, I reckon Laruuk is right in what he or she (sorry, I can never remember which little symbol means which gender) said above - lots of foreshadowing going on. I wonder which of the "dead" characters were "really" dead and which were something to do with the new Big Bad - we already know it can assume different forms from the first ep's mind games with Spike

Shame about Jonathon tho' - he was one of my fave minor characters.

And what's happening with Spike? Did I miss his chip being removed or is something else going on there?

I am hoping the whole 'talking to the dead' thing means either Spike was talking to some entity dreamed up by the new big bad (not really real, therefore he has the ability to cause harm... or at least he thinks he has, thus throwing everything he has worked for into question.) Spike can harm mumans, it just hurts him, but is it more a mental block now? Maybe if the big bad shows he can hurt without consequence he will return to his old ways, but because of his soul he will descend into true madness (a-la Angel post curse for several decades), and will then be taken out of the do-gooding picture for good. I am sure the big bad isn't pleased Spike has been removed from the basement and seems sanity bound at the moment.

The other alternative (and my prefered one) is that that wasn't Spike at all. It was just another show from the big bad, used to reinforce Buffys idea that Spike has gone bad again (afetr being told her former school mate was sired by Spike she has to have serious doubts). If he has been 'spotted' doing the biting thang, then Buffy will have no alternative but to try to slay him, and again, he will be out of the way if the big bad thinks he is too dangerous to have as an enemy.

Of course I don't think either will result in the death of Spike... Buffy and the gang will work out the truth either way.

I didn't manage to tape it though... if anyone has the inclination, it may be an idea to post a transcript of what the dead said, as it is very likely that there will be major hints in there... Tara and Faith in dreams were always very helpful that way!

And what will become of Andrew?

This was an amazing episode. It was a way scary ep and gave me the wig big time.::disturb:

I thought that Spike was gonna kiss that girl and I was screaming No at the Tv.
I didn't see the fact that Spike had Sired Holden coming at all, what a shock. I so want him and Buffy to get back together and for her to admit she loves him. And by the way, how upset did she look when she found out about Spike?

Very strong stuff, but for some reason,I'm starting to prefer Angel :: jack :: ,maybe Spike's chip is faulty......😕

Here are the conversations between Cassie & Willow, Dawn & her mum, and Warren & Andrew.

CASSIE
So, (Willow turns to look) this is the UC library, huh? It's so big. Hey.
WILLOW
I know you. I mean, I saw your picture.
CASSIE
(walks out from behind the stacks to Willow's table) Yeah, I know, it's kinda weird 'cause we never really met.
WILLOW
Or kinda weird because your're really dead.
CASSIE
Yeah well... (laughs)
WILLOW
Did I fall asleep?
CASSIE
No, no, I'm here. I mean, not-not here here... it's kinda complicated. Kind of ironic, too, you know. I wrote all that intense poetry about the end, and here I am again. Chatting you up.
WILLOW
Yeah, ironic.
CASSIE
I knew this would completely freak you out. It's just"” (sits at Willow's table) she asked that I come talk to you. It's important.
WILLOW
She?
CASSIE
Don't worry. I'm not gona hurt you or anything"”
WILLOW
Who asked you? What are you talking about?
CASSIE
She says she still sings.
WILLOW
What?
CASSIE
Remember that time on the bridge when you sang to each other? Well, she says even though you can't hear it, she still sings to you.
WILLOW
Tara?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
WARREN
Nice job.
ANDREW
There you are. I'm scared out of my frickin' gourd here.
WARREN
(laughs) Take it easy. Take it easy.
ANDREW
Do you have any idea how hard it's been to act this cool?
WARREN
Calm down, you're doing great. All specs are within parameters.
ANDREW
You keep leaving me. I hate it when you leave me. One time you died, and I ended up a Mexican.
WARREN
We've been over this. Now, that death thing was all part of the master plan. Come on, "If you strike me down..."
ANDREW
(doing an impression) "I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine." (laughs) Of course. Do you think, maybe, Willow could kill me, too?
WARREN
Hey, don't worry. If short round pulls off his end of the bargain, we'll both become gods.
ANDREW
(turns to look down hall where Jonathan went) (doing an impression) "That boy is our last hope."
WARREN
(walks forward to stand beside Andrew) "No, there is another."
ANDREW
(looks at Warren) Wait, really? Who's our last hope?
WARREN
No, I was just going with it. It was a thing. He's our last hope.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

WILLOW
Tara, is it you?
CASSIE
She's sorry she couldn't come herself.
WILLOW
Why didn't she? I don't understand... I mean, if you can manifest yourself
CASSIE
She just can't.
WILLOW
Why not? I don't understand.
CASSIE
Because of what you did.
WILLOW
What?
CASSIE
You killed people. You can't see her. That's just how it is. I'm sorry.
WILLOW
But"”But she's talking to you? And-and she can hear me? (starts to cry, looks up) Tara? Tara, I miss you. I miss you so much. (to Cassie) Can she hear me? What's happening. Did she say anything? What? Did she go away?
CASSIE
She's crying.
WILLOW
No. No, don't cry. Don't cry, sweetie. Talk to me.
CASSIE
She misses you, too. She wishes she could touch you.
WILLOW
Me too. Oh, me, too. Oh, God, Tara, it hurts so much. Everyday, it's like this giant hole, and it's not getting better.
CASSIE
It will. It can.
WILLOW
How? You're gone.
CASSIE
But you're not. You're strong, like an Amazon, remember?
WILLOW
I do. I remember.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

WILLOW
I don't know where to start. Um, after Warren shot you"”you know all about that, what happened? It was horrible. I was horrible. I"”I lost myself, the regular me.
CASSIE
Well, you were grieving.
WILLOW
A lot of people grieve. They don't make with the flaying. I hurt so many people.
CASSIE
It was the power.
WILLOW
I am the power. It's in me. Did I mention the random destruction of property? The Magic Box is not so much a box now"”
CASSIE
The power is bigger than you are.
WILLOW
I know, but"”
CASSIE
Things are more clear where Tara is, where we are. We can see your path, and you have to stop. You can't use magic again, not ever.
WILLOW
Black magic, of course. But Giles says it isn't as simple as-as quitting it all cold-turkey"”
CASSIE
It's too dangerous. You can't take the chance that you'll lose control.
WILLOW
I-I don't want to. I-I can't. I never want to cause that kind of pain.
CASSIE
Of course you don't.
WILLOW
So, I won't. I'm gonna be OK.
CASSIE
She says...
WILLOW
What?
CASSIE
You're not gonna be OK. You're gonna kill everybody.
Willow stares at her.
Fade to black.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

WILLOW
I'm gonna what?
CASSIE
That's why I came. We needed to warn you.
WILLOW
You saw my path? W-what do you know? What"”what did you see?
CASSIE
You don't want to know what we saw.
WILLOW
Oh, God!
CASSIE
But if you stop"”completely. No more magic.
WILLOW
Right. Right. Stop. W-what about Giles? He made it seem like it was just as dangerous for me to quit completely, like I'll go off the deep end again"”
CASSIE
You can't. If you do so much as another spell"”
WILLOW
I tried to stop. I-I tried. What if I can't do this?
CASSIE
Don't think that way.
WILLOW
Well, how can I not? You're telling me I'm gonna murder all my friends. I'm not strong. I'm not an Amazon. I'm just me.
CASSIE
Well, there is one thing"”one thing you could do to stop it.
WILLOW
(eyes wide) What? Anything.
CASSIE
And you could see her. You wouldn't have to talk through me.
WILLOW
(softly) Tara?
CASSIE
That's what you want, isn't it?
WILLOW
Of course.
CASSIE
So go. Be with her. Everybody will be safe, and you'll be together again. It's not that bad. Really. It's just like going to sleep.
Willow suspects that something's wrong. She stands cautiously.
WILLOW
Who are you?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
JOYCE
Things are coming, Dawn. Listen, things are on their way. I love you, and I love Buffy, but she won't be there for you.
DAWN
What? Why are you"”?
JOYCE
When it's bad, Buffy won't choose you. She'll be against you.
The vision of Joyce starts to fade.
DAWN
No! No, don't go! Please, don't go!
Joyce disappears entirely. Dawn, still sitting in the middle of the living room floor, sobs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
CASSIE
Suicide thing was too far, huh? Hmm. You seemed so ripe.
WILLOW
Tell me who you are.
CASSIE
(leans forward) I stand by my opinion. The world would be a better place if you took a razorblade to your wrist"”
WILLOW
Stop.
CASSIE
I can see it now. (stands) Candlelight, the Indigo Girls playing, picture of your dead girlfriend on your bloody lap.
WILLOW
Stop it!
CASSIE
(mocking) Oh, baby, you left such a big hole. It hurt so bad. (serious, leans in) You don't know hurt. This last year's gonna seem like cake after what I put you and your friends through, and I am not a fan of easy death. Fact is, the whole good-versus-evil, balancing the scales thing"”I'm over it. I'm done with the mortal coil. But believe me, I'm going for a big finish.
WILLOW
From beneath you, it devours.
CASSIE
(leans back) Oh, not it. Me.
Cassie sports a wicked grin, and then her skin rolls back, and her jaws flip back and she's turning inside out until she's a floating ball of flesh, then"”poof!"”she disappears altogether. Willow's left just standing there in front of the library table.

Okay, better late then never *Kicks his pooter into touch*

Conversations With dead People... what can I say, a nifty piece of writing but the cuts from scene to scene were dodgey to say the least, especially when we kept on leaving dawn...

ooo ooo and Jonathan... that was a very unsatisfactory way to kill one of the recurring characters and although things are obviously going to go from bad to worse for the scoobies this season I still would have preferred Jenny Calander go to see Willow than Cassie, there was a bigger bond between those two and it would thrown Willow even more... oh yes... where is ROBIA?!?! 😀

Spike and the sireing thing, I don't think we've seen the last of this and this big bad must be somthing spectacular if it can keep 3 manifestation type things going all at once...

It was nice to see joyce again, if only for 30 seconds 😛 and one more thing, is the big bad this season going for the divide and conquer stratergy? Hmmm ? hmmm? Do ya think....

Oh wow! A new favourite season 7 episode! My sister missed this so Ive been rubbing in how frickin' amazing it was. Thank God for the Saturday repeat on Sky 1!

It was very cool to see Joyce and Cassie again although the circumstances werent ideal!

Dawn was amazing this episode. I have new respect for her character after everything she went through.

Joyce puzzled me though - was it really her or the thing thats manifesting as others ie Cassie and the Big Bads. It would be nice for her to have been real but in that case what did she mean by the she wont choose you/be against you thing?

Willow got me again when she was crying, I always feel most sadness for her and I loved th OMWF references to Under Your Spell. When Cassie 'went bad', that was harder to watch and the thought of Willow killing herself? Oh boy no!

I loved the image of Cassie folding in on herself though, I just thought uurrgghh! When 'she' said not it, me, I thought that was cool.

Poor Jonathan! After last season I have a dislike of the geeks especially Warren although he wasnt that bad this ep. Andrew annoys me but I quite like him and Jonathan has been such a constant in Buffy over the years, now it looks like hes gone!

And what about Spike! So many questions!! So little answers!

I was annoyed that Xander and Anya didnt appear. Especially Xander, first ever absence, Id be so annoyed if I was Nicholas Brendon!

Did their absence from the episode mean that the thing atacking Willow and Dawn found them insignificant?

At first I found Buffy and the psychvamps interactions annoying but then they turned into a quite creepy scenario.

This ep was just too amazing. Buffy is so much in top form this season, I quite wait for the next eps!!

Xander and Anya I think could of appeared in this ep!!!

Xander could of been speaking to Dawn on the phone, or Dawn could of rang Xander after Buffy!!!
The same with Anya!!!

Xander could of spoken to Jenny or Jesse!!!
Anya could of spoke to Hallie!!!

Well this episode made a nice change in that it was actually good. I can't believe I just said that...

Anyway, good things: very nice dialogue between Buffy and Holden (that was his name right?) - original, funny and not nearly as forced as some of the recent stuff. There was great shot of Buffy lying back on a tomb like it was a psychiatrist's couch - excellent. This is much closer to the subtlety of wit of the old Buffy.
The Spike thread was nicely underplayed, particularly the fact that it was done without any lines being spoken. Cassie - good character, well acted. Jonathan/Andrew scenes were amusing too.

Bad things: absence of Xander. After all these years he hasn't been absent from one episode and now they've had to spoil the run which is a shame. Couldn't he have been in it for at least one scene? I don't think that's too much to ask. It actually bothered me in season 3 when Cordelia and Oz made disappearances for some episodes - if you've got these great characters why not use them?
The jumping between scenes was off a little. I was having trouble piecing together the various threads and remembering all that was going on every time Sky 1 decided it was time for a break...
Joyce appearing in a glowing ethereal light - so weak. I think it would have been a lot more effective if they'd had her dressed normally and doing something totally unexpected, like cleaning up or something. It was all a bit cliched.
Willow - finding it very hard to be convinced by the whole Willow/Tara relationship and always have. Every scene they had together since Tara entered the picture has focused on nothing but the fact that they were a couple. Does that not strike you as odd? Hmm. Anyway I just didn't find Willow's heartbreak to be particularly convincing.
One last thing - the special effects for Cassie disappearing were truly awful.

Overall a nice episode but it fell short of making into the 'classic' category by some way.

I loved it 🙂 Esp Dawn - she was really good as was Willow 🙂

I can't wait to see what happens with Spike biting people! I'm trying to stay spoiler free and it has worked so far!

OMG, I loved this episode to! Its my fave episode so far this Season. It was cool how such a funny episode like 'Him' was followed by such a dark episode. Dawn was amazing and its weird how we find out that Buffy would rather open up to vampires rather than her friends. I couldn't stop crying when Tara was talking to willow through cassie(If it really was her), and when Joyce appeared at the end! I dont get why Spike was killing people though, he has a soul. Does he realise what he is doing? I guess it will all be cleared up in the next episode!😀
