Buffy and Principal Wood's dinner date becomes a harrowing operation to save Xander from a catastrophic date with a beautiful but enigmatic woman (Ashanti). Meanwhile, Giles and Spike continue to hone the training of the Slayer wannabes.

Spoilers

So I'm guessing most people are gonna like this one. Now for something small enough that it might get overlooked in the general merriment:

ME and Joss have always been pretty good at mis-direction. I say this because:
A. it's true and B. I think they are at it again with Wood.

He's intelligent, attractive, solid, and is even the son of a slayer. What could be more perfect. Nothing could be wrong with him except maybe a burning desire for justice and/or revenge. So why I'm I thinking he's got a lot more to him than the story has told before?
A. The bloody knife..he calmly wipes off the red blood and puts it away. Whose blood was that? We don't know. Then there is
B. Something we get to see again in the intro to this episode. Wood with the shovel. Never did get that one straight. If he knew about what was going on in the school basement, why WOULD he really have waited this long to let Buffy know who he was, and WHY would he not enlist the aid of her and Giles at the very least. Methinks something is very much up.

Wheee!!!! I HAVE THE BLOODY KNIFE! Seriously, I have that same knife, I bought it last June at the anual Ren fest 😛 That's cool as heck.

maybe just maybe .... people are looking at the wrong slayer who has caused the imbalance which allowed the FE to make an appearance , Wood HAS to be here for something not just revenge on spike !

AHHH! I loved this freakin' episode! It was AWESOME! (at least, IMO!). I'm really interested in knowing how Principal Knifey is gonna take this news! This is crazy! And wow! I just loved it.. it was hilarious, too! "Gay me up!".. I loved the whole "I'm undressing Scott Bakula with my mind as we speak!" thing! And the best: GILES' FLASHCARDS! lol! I just loved this whole episode! Whoooo! Anyway, time for Angel, I might post more later when I regain composure!

This ep was funny, but also seroius...

flash cards, gay me up, HELLO???? way funny

Gotta love the Spike and Buffy scenes... they are ready for reconciliation.
And Principal Wood... keep your hands off my spike! 🙂

The girl who plays Wood's mom isn't the same actress who played her in Fool For Love in S5 🙁

i guess that was a cheap way to make it a twist for everyone, old and new fans alike.

overall, very very good.

another round for Robin Wood

Add another factoid to the information on Robin Wood. Willow Googled till she just couldn't Google no more and came up with zilch on him. No transcripts, nothing , nada. So how did he "maneuver" himself into the position of principal at a High School. Even Sunnydale. There must be SOME sort of background check. I'm telling you guys there is more to this fella' than a dynamite smile , good taste in restaurants, and a slayer for a mom. It was during the school day that he came into his office with the blood covered knife. What demon (with red blood) was he slaying and nobody caught a clue? In the school? During the day? I'm not buying it. How did that phrase go (in the word of Capt Reese in Forever Knight referring to LaCroix)
"He may not be guilty of this, but he sure as hell is guilty of something."
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Agreed. the whole story isn't out yet.

But I'm glad he's at least back in the SHOW. I mean, he pretty much disappeared for a month.

All in all, this episode was FANTASTIC! Incredible. GREAT moments between Buffy and Spike, I LOVED the date scene. I thought it was wonderful acting on SMG's part... we don't often get to se her in the more "wowed" than "wowing" role. I loved it when she had finished the three vamps, and she's like.. "You set me up you son of a...."
And the line.. "That's got to be the best thing I've ever had in my mouth..." Had me cracking up!

What the hell was the POINT with the demon that Xander went on a date with though? It just didn't see to say anything.

And Way to go Andrew! He stood up to the First, and I'm proud of him. But I damn well wish they'd stop putting in little moments between him and Dawn... he's obviously gay. did you see him when Xander was all "Gay me up!"?

At least they finally explained how Giles is alive... although it was rather lame. "His shoes were squeaky" Those flashcards were HILARIOUS too... and one thing that I REALLY liked about this eipsode was that the new SIT didn't speak english. They didn't make her speak english, even though she was from a foreign country. They kept it real. Though she was really funny. "You're trying to Kill me!"

And uh... is it just me or are we losing SITs every week? I didn't see New York there at ALL... or shy red head. And Rona... they're not still in the desert! but ick... Stick-thin girl was back.

Ooh... and that scene at the beginning between Buffy and Willow was SO cute... "holding hands under the table and you think we don't see...."

It seemed to say to me: Xander will never have a real relationship. He's doomed to wander the earth alone forever, less mate with a demon. 😛

I am so glad that Buffy decided to have the chip removed! Yeah for Spike!

I think that they played it to humorously though. I think that it should have been more of an emotional thing between the two of them, yet the tension between Buffy and Giles about the chip was perhaps enough drama.

But anyway... yeah, Spike is chip-free and Buffy's not ready for him to not be there...
a.k.a.--- knockin the boots again!

This ep was GREAT! It showed the 1st making a move on Andrew and gave a little more background on wood. still a lot of questions, but how cool is it that he is the son of a slayer. you can't find a person's college transcripts on google! no matter how hard you google. as a side note, it IS scary that I can find myself on google just by typing in my name. and wouldnt willow be better off hacking into social security or something. or maybe Sunnydale high's records.

but in general i loved this ep, b/c it was SO funny! The asian potential was great! "i dont understand a word of what you are saying", "i am lactose intolerant", "are the flashcard monsters attacking?" and "you're trying to kill me!" Gods, she was a riot. and OMG, the FLASHCARDS!!! too good. they reminded me of Giles' drawings during Hush.

poor Xander... he really can't get a girl that isnt evil. What was that evil chick's goal? Was she trying to raise another Turok-han?

Can't wait to watch this ep again later. Too many hilarious moments.

This ep was so funny!! First, the crazy flashcards and then Xander and his demon woman!! His superpower is attracting demon women!! hehe😛 OMG!! The funniest part of this ep is when the Asian girl said "What's wrong? Are the flashcard monsters attacking?" I almost fell off the bed laughing so hard!! I forgot to add that Wood kicked butt while fighting the vamps. He is a good ally to have!! This was just a great ep in general. I can't wait until next week!!😀 😀

Really great ep - love the Wood-as-child-of-slayer angle. Too bad they didn't get the same actress (not that the new one did a bad job, but just for continuity), but anyhoo...

I really like the Wood character. I reallized last night that D.B. Woodside was in The Temptations with J August Richards (Gunn from Angel). Just some useless knowledge for you!

The episode was good. I thought Ashanti will suck, but she did well on Buffy. My favorite part was the flashing cards and when Xander said, "Gay me up."

ok, loved the ep!
spuffy will be makin a comeback fo real this time!!!

but......did anyone catch it when buffy said she was in love with spike!!??!?!?

"why does everyone think i'm STILL IN LOVE WITH SPIKE"
were her words i believe....i thought someone was gonna pick up on that one....maybe its just me....

ah... not the same actress. I THOUGHT that that Slayer looked MUCH prettier than the one Spike killed on the train.

Ooooh... and Jonathan in decay? that was just disgusting.

I think Ashanti WAS trying to raise another Turok-han. the thing is, it was the SAME seal. in the basement. 1. she would have had to dig it up again. 2. someone would have had to build that giant wheel thing, unless no one thought to, ya know, take DOWN the old one when Spike was there... 3. Uh... the Turok-han inside that seal was already killed. Are there just a whole bunch of Turok-han in there? But only one can be released at a time? Then why wouldn't the First unleash an army of them? Or, perhaps only one can exist in the world at a time, so a second one couldn't be released until the first one was killed. Bah. speculation.

I CAUGHT IT TOOOOO!!!!! i was all like, "what did she say?" I was amazed no one called her on it.

it was a great ep. Poor Xander never can be happy can he? Principal Wood was pretty cool. He seems like he'll be a big help to Buffy and the gang, but he's going to have to work around his issues with Spike. Buffy and Spike had some good moments during this ep, and I hope good things happen for them. Anya was awesome as usual. She always has the best lines in every episode. When she was talking to Buffy in the bathroom about Xander's date, and then the whole "I'm also going to pee, so you should probably leave." That was funny.

GO ANDREW!!!!!!!!! Way to fight the dark side, bud. He was so great. I was so upset when I thought he was going to kill the SITs, and then he started fighting back, and i was all like "Go Andrew!!!!!" I really miss good Jonathan, but he's doing a really good job of being evil. I'm really glad they kept Danny around. He's been in every season, so keeping Jonathon in is great!

Giles's flashcards!!!! that's all I have to say on that subject. Tony was awesome in this episode. He went from funny to extremely serious so fast. His talk at the end about being serious was really good. The new Slayer seems nice, and she's funny with the not speaking english. Here's hoping they work out the communication issues soon.

Next week's ep looks good. I'm all excited about it. Well, there's all my thoughts on this week's ep.

Maybe Wood with the bloody knife had just killed off one of Xander's demon girl date's associates. (And of course, you just *knew* the FE would tell him that Spike was the vampire that killed his mother.) I'd still like more background on why he buried Jonathan, though. The could be a whole range of motives there.

I was glad to finally see how Giles got away from the Bringer, and the new Chinese SIT made her first appearance with a lot of comic relief. (I think it's gotten to the point, though, that there are so many SITs you just can't show them all in one episode without cutting into the principal characters' scenes unnecessarily.)

What I thought was particularly funny was the way everyone burst into laughter when Buffy brought up her "counseling skills".
