Official Pre-Discussion of 7.14 "First Date"

Taken from Much Ado About BTVS

NEVER KILL A BOY - Principal Wood asks Buffy out on a date, arousing her suspicions and peeking her curiousity, and a secret about the principal's past is revealed. Xander has a date of his own - with a strange woman he met buying rope. Anya's jealous side rears it's ugly head at the idea of Xander dating someone else. Meanwhile, the First is back in the game, this time focusing on Andrew. David Grossman directed the episode written by Jane Espenson.

No Spoilers Please! This is just for pre discussion and speculation

This ep doesn't sound that thrilling to me - but that could be a really cool, misleading sign.

I'm intrigued by the 'actress' playing Xander's date - that could be interesting! The emphasis on buying rope also intrigues me, sounds a bit kinky!!

I must say I like the Never Kill A Boy (on the First Date) bit in the preview. Brings back memories of way back in season 1 with Buffy and Owen, wow how things were simpler then!

I Loved It!!!

OMG, just saw First Date! I loved it! I cant believe that Spike killed Wood's mum, and I cant believe Wood is the son of a Slayer! It really is obvious that Buffy still loves Spike, and Wood is realising that. Did anyone else notice Wood looking in the mirror in his car back at Spike, but Spike isnt supposed to have a reflection. Was this intentional, or was it a mistake. No wonder wood was getting suspicious! This is one of my fave eps so far, along with The Killer In Me and Showtime. What did everyone else think?

Willow and Kennedy seem to be getting closer too, and there were some sweet moments between Buffy and Spike. Spuffy lives on!

I loved this episode. Jane Espenson rocks!!

I liked Xander this episode and although Ashanti wasn't in it that much I thought she was ok.

This has got to be one of the funniest episodes of Buffy, for the first three quarters I was laughing non stop. Anya of course provided loads of comedy and I love Chao Ahn, the new girl! 'I think you're trying to kill me' or something like that.

And how great was it to see Xander, Willow and Buffy talking normally with each other, laughing, joking and teasing like they did in the earlier years?

It was great to see Andrew do something as well, I liked him standing up to the First slash Jonathan!! And when it appeared to Willow, Amanda and Dawn downstairs, ewwwww!

I was pleased that Sarah Hagan's name was added to the guest star list instead of being right at the end of the episode. Amanda rocks!

I was really disappointed that Vi, Rona and especially Molly didn't appear. I like these three girls and Chloe still has not reappeared!! Was there a reason given that I missed why Kennedy, Amanda and Chao Ahn were around but the other girls weren't?

All in all I loved this episode and I am now officially interested in Wood given the new twist on his character. How cool making him Nikki's son and I love that season 7 now has a cool connection with my favourite season 5!

First Date is probably my third favourite episode of the season after CWDP and Never leave Me.

The editing in the last ten minutes was just awful!!! 🙁

Was Ashanti standing that way for ten minutes before Buffy got there!?😛 It was really, really badly done IMO.........She would have to time to slash Xander's throat, and eviscerate him,the way it was cut......::thumb::

Oh well.......I still enjoyed it,mostly.......:: wacko :

A good eppy for me - not spectacular and not one of the best of the season, coz i think S7 has had some AMAZING eppys, but good all the same.

Very cool that Wood is the son of the slayer, and when The First said that Spike killed his mother and i looked again at her face, i thought "Wow!" - coz thats just clever! I mean the tie backs (i think someone else said it was S5)! I immediately remembered the eppy back then when Spike tells buffy about how he killed 2 slayers and remembered the exact section when he killed Wood's mother in the subway train. Great link.

Ashanti - dont really like her, but she was ok. I thought it was so funny how xander attracted a demon... again! Lol.

One thing i LOVED about this eppy was what you said, AmberHannigan - it was so cute to seeing the trio (in the sense of buffy, willow and xander) laughing, joking and just talking to each other, in ways not necessarily concerned with 'how do we save the world again?'! I like how their friendships are developing and strengthening again this season.

I like how S7 is refreshing, somehow like some of the earlier years again, yet more developed coz it has developed! Some nice fresh qualities to characters we now all know and love!

😀

I really loved this ep. The fact that Wood was Nikki's son is a really good twist. But OMG what's he gonna do now that he knows that Spike killed her?

And sorry to keep banging on about this but, the way the Spike and Buffy look at each other only makes it clear to me that Buffy loves Spike as much as he loves her. The way she held his hand after they rescued Xander from Lissa gives me hope that before this season is out she'll admit it. *crosses fingers*
I mean the quote

BUFFY: Why does everybody in this house think I'm still in love with Spike?

The word here is STILL. This is a very telling line in the script because Buffy denied ever loving him but now she's saying she does or at least did at some point.

You made me remember something i wanted to say 🙂
Ive always been a complete devoted B/A 'shipper, and didnt really mind B/S as i realise B/A can never really be and didnt think B/S would last.
However, this eppy completed changed some of my opinions! The way they looked at each other.... melted my heart! Lol, corny but they were soooooo cute.... so tender and loving! Lol. SO CUTE! Im a sucker for sweet things like that! Lol.

🙂
