The said it themselves, there is nothing on the First, so all they can really do is train! And whenever we saw the Scoobs do something useful, Kennedy, the potentials leader was there too!

This ep was pretty cool. Xander always has the best lines!! For example, "So far, so creepy" "It's spell o'clock." He is such a riot. As for the three guys and the slayer power thing, I understand why the first slayer was so primeval now. In order to defeat the demons, she had to have the same mentality as one. Demons are out for blood and to defeat them you have to be just as ruthless. Poor Wood, he looked like he wanted to stake Spike on the spot after he said where he got the coat from.
Props have to be given to Kennedy for leading the training session. She did a pretty good job!! I think that she will be the next slayer. Oh, I forgot to mention what was up with one of the guys saying that Buffy was the last guardian of the hellmouth. Hello, there's Faith!!😛 Is Buffy somehow different from the other slayers?? Hope they answer this question before the show is over!!😀 😀

Everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that 'last guardian of the hellmouth' is not the same as 'last Slayer.' The Slayer was put in place to combat demons and vampires...not guard the hellmouth. Heck, none of the previous Slayers were there. We know of two others that weren't, one in Shanghai or Beijing (I don't recall where the Boxer Rebellion took place, specifically), the other in New York. The two aside from Buffy that were in Sunnydale came there because the existing Slayer was there.
So don't assume that Buffy has to outlive Faith or that no Slayers will follow her...that's not what was said. All that we can actually discern with reasonable accuracy is that if Faith gets her own show, it cannot be set in Sunnydale. 😉

I also forgot to mention something very, very important: What the hell was up with the fashion, especially Buffy's skirt??? Good lord! What a frumpy mess she was. It had about eight layers too many, and the hemline was a nightmare. I like fishtails on skirts, but that thing was out of control, like some throw-away at a gypsy's garage sale. It also is totally inconsistent with any kind of style Buffy has previously worn (hallelujah).
As for Anya's top, the less said, the better. I'll just add that it looked like it was made from the same material as a baby's set of pajamas bought from a discount store. Just awful. I liked how they explained how the Slayer was made, I thought that was pretty interesting. I have problems with Buffy not accepting the extra power, I mean she knows that they are not strong enough to fight the First, why wouldn't you take the extra power? I thought it was kind of rash of her to just break the staff, maybe she should have tried to think it through before rushing to judgement.
I have no clue how they are going to defeat all those Ubervamps. Really, I just can't see those girls beating thousands of the Turok-Han. I don't have a damn clue where Joss is taking this, but I'm very anxious to find out.
Kennedy annoyed me a bit in this episode. Who is she to give orders to the rest of them? I have a feeling something is up with her, that maybe they are trying to foreshadow that she is more powerful than the other potentials.

power, corruption, the episode, and vamp-slayers
One Ring to Rule them all... (again)
Look at Willow in the last season. Even better, look at Willow in this episode. She wanted power from Kennedy and she just took it. Hopefully, at this point, Kennedy finally gets what Willow's been saying about her power.
(To all those still wondering: At first, Willow knocked Kennedy and Dawn backwards on accident when the spell started to kick in. Then later, she drained energy from Kennedy and Anya to complete the spell.)
Something else just occured to me about Willow and power. Let's go back to "Empire Strikes Back" for a moment:
LUKE: . . . Is the dark side stronger?
YODA: No...no...no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.

Notice how it goes with the black-eyed Willow. Normal Willow is patient and will take her time if necessasry. But always with Willow turning to the dark magics, there's some want of speed with her. She's wants it to happen faster. Back in season 6, when the gang had to deal with the side effects of bringing Buffy back to life, Buffy had to kill an incorporeal ghosty thing. Willow and Tara were doing a spell to make the creature physical, but it wasn't getting anywhere, at least not quickly. So Willow turns her face up to the sky, her eyes go black and she says, "Solid!". She short circuited the normal process by taking the "quicker, easier" route.
This is how it goes with power. This is always how it goes.

Giles isn't the last Watcher. At least sort of not. There's is still an ex-watcher out there. You can see his countenance depicted to the left of this post. 🙂 Wesley's still out there. Besides, I'm not totally convinced that all the watchers are dead yet. The way they were killed off was general and vague. I have the distinct impression that there probably are some survivors here and there but that they're not in a position to help. At the very least, there's Robson.

thoughts on the ep in general
It was pretty good. Not the best. I agree with Diminished_9th that an episode with more of a clearly defined story is better. I also agree with the view that Buffy was pretty darn harsh when speaking with everyone after burying Chloe. I'm not sure whether that speech helped or hurt the fight against The First. I think it probably did both. Actually, I get that from the whole episode. Pretty much everything then did in that episode seemed to help them but also created or widened potential areas of attack for The First. See, if they start yelling at each other and arguing, then The First wins.
As for the uber-vamps, I except the heroes will defeat that by never facing it. If the goodies eventually manage to beat back The First so that it's more dormant for a few thousand years then those uber-vamps probably won't have a way out. Perhaps there's a way to disenchant the seal or something.

The vampires and the slayer
It now appears that the Slayer and vampires have a lot in common. The first vampire was created when some demon's essence got mingled with a human and apparently the first slayer was created in a similar manner. Whenever a vampire creates a new vampire, some of that essence is given over to the new vampire. Or something like that. When a slayer dies, she passes on the essence (a demon essence I guess) that makes the slayer what she is onto the new slayer. Or something like that.
I guess the main difference is the Slayer gets to stay human (just having a little bit 'o demon essence in her) while the vampire becomes a demon.
It is a little weird that slayers are all women though. Now that we've had all this slayer stuff revealed. In many mythological systems, the female is associated with life, rather than death because it's women that bear children. It's the male that gets associated with death (joy, joy (sarcasm)) because we can't give birth and we had to go out and kill things to take back to the cave to eat. 🙂

Actually, what had me thinking LotR was all the stuff about power. You know: "All power courrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely." That old thing. That's why it was a good idea for Buffy to refuse the power the shamans offered. Some have said that the power Buffy already has hasn't affected her or made her bad, but go back and look at Conversations With Dead People where Buffy talks about her superiority complex. Why does she have that? Because of her power. It makes her feel better than everyone else. Of course, right now she feels bad about feeling better. 🙂 That's her conscience kicking in. I submit that if she got too much power, her conscience would die and she'd go all Evil. I also wrote about this in Poll : Power (Get it Done) .

Wow, you really are The FIrst aren't you? 🙂 "Haven't corrupted her"! Are you insane? I know, Buffy's never really gone evil or anything (only a couple exceptions), so maybe she hasn't really been corrupted, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been affected. (see above for discussion on the corrupting effects of power. or watch LotR. or Star Wars.)

I thought the episode was pretty good. It could have been better. Can't wait till next week new episode!
It might have been rash, but I think Buffy was going with a very strong gut reaction. If she became part demon, she wouldn't be Buffy anymore. I think fighting to save your *identity* can be as primal as fighting for your life.
I think she also didn't want to be like the First Slayer, who she'd fought and defeated and found extremely uncongenial before. ("No friends! Just kill!") Kind of an Uber-Vamp version of the sort of Slayer we've seen.
I think Kennedy started giving orders to the other SITs because none of the others beat her to it. She always was the pushiest of the bunch. I'm not sure what they're trying to foreshadow about her, though; it could be misleading. She might end up being first to get killed in battle; it sometimes happens to people who insist on being first in line.

I always knew the slayer had some demon in her, it made perfect sense...
I really can't believe none of you understand why buffy would reject the power and disrespect all those shamans... no slayer wanted the power, even the first one was forced to be part demon... remember that... now she knows, that some weak shamans decided to force a girl into becoming part demon to kill other demons, just like she is FORCED to kill demons since she was called....

Also, the "last guardian of the hellmouth" DOES NOT mean the last slayer, Faith was never nor is now a guardian of the hellmouth, my guess is either the hellmouth will be destroyed this season, or the slayerline will be terminated... i don't think the second is plausible since their in talks for a faith spinoff... but they could make faith not a slayer somehow, can't they?...
When willow sucked the life out of everyone, i don't get what's the big deal... there were 4 persons there... 1 with some little power (kennedy) and 3 powerless (anya, xander, dawn), so it sucked life out of kennedy and whoever was there.. it doesn't mean anything

Great Episode! Joss just keeps getting better and better. One question though... Where was Giles? I think Buffy said at one point in time, but I didn't quite catch it.
My view on the First hearing what Buffy had told Principal Wood is that it can be anywhere it wants to be, and it doesn't necessarily have to be seen. Maybe it was there torturing Chloe all that time, and that's why she was so distracted during the "boot camp" scene.
I've decided that Buffy has problems with not being in control of what's happening. I think that's why she turned down the power she was offered. Then when they showed her the "future" (or at least that's what I thought it was) she realized the HUGE mistake she had made. I expect that she will have to try and gain the power on her own.
I like Spike the way he is. I don't know why Buffy wants him to be the evil one. I think she was just pissed at herself for not being able to save Chloe. I was extremely mad when she went off on my girl Anya! I was not a happy buffy fan at that point in the ep. But Anya proved herself later on in the episode. I wonder why D'Hoffryn wants her dead. She better not get killed cause I will be extremely NOT HAPPY!
Wood needs to learn to deal with Spike. He doesn't seem to realize that he's a good guy now, and doesn't want to hurt people. Kennedy needs to keep from pushing willow into the magic. She didn't seem to get how much a problem it was until Will sucked the life out of her. Maybe she'll back off now. Great Andrew scenes. The "big board" had me laughing as well as the "guestage" line. He's so great. I'm glad they kept him around.
Next week's ep looks like it'll be funny, but not really important for the plot. I'm happy for a big andrew episode, but it's mainly going to be a filler episode. But maybe Joss will surprise us all.

PS: LOVED the Tigger reference in there. Used the TTFN, the catch phrase of something that will Jump on you when you least expect it, yet is so innocent. I think it's a way of saying that when the First attacks it'll be through something they don't expect and it'll be very sudden. Any thoughts??

i know whatcha mean. it's kinda like holtz's war with angel. he knows angel has a soul, but i guess he's too caught up in revenge to care. and by the way, since spike has a soul now, should we start calling him another name, like angel/angelus? not much you can do to change the name spike though, only one syllable lol........

I really liked this episode.
It's like Season 7 is back. I don't know about the rest of you but I've kind of had the feeling Season 7 has been coasting since Never Leave Me.
Get it Done is full of what's been best about Season 7. It's multi-leveled you can just watch it for the jokes and interesting character development, or you can mull over deeper questions of moral ambiguity, or what are we doing here and how should we do it.
Another trademark of Season 7 is it's a page turner. One puzzle is solved and two more present themselves and you want to turn the page to find out what's that's all about.
Petrie, Whedon, and Goddard--triple threat. The 3 best writers on television.

Yeah, Anya needs to smack Buffy for that little snotty tantrum she threw. And what about the Bad Crackerjacks thing that Anya and Giles went to? Almost everything they know about the First is from it, and Anya is the one who made that happen--even resorting to proposed prostitution to seal the deal! And now she's on the run for her life. What more can she do?!?
