Official Discussion of "Hell's Bells" (UPN-US)

OMG!

Ok, I think I found a few words. Poor Anya... I felt so bad for her. I never really thought they should get married now, but damn, that was rough. I think Xander could have figured that out well before now...

Is Anya really going to become a demon again? But she really wasnt all that hard to defeat last time...

I feel so bad for the Scoobies in general... I mean there's just no happiness anywhere right now.

Next week looks amazing. I can't wait to find out what is in store for us. There is no way, these 6 years have all been created by Buffy's insanity... That would be such a lame cop out. Is it the geeks? Are they toying w/ her again!? Ahh... 7 days seems so long!

I'm just speechless after this episode. I'm not sure what I really think about Buffy as a series at this moment and I'm not really sure that it's even worth watching *shocking I know* I can't believe that one season could have so horribly scared an otherwise great series. I mean this ep just adds insult to injury. Why isn't it possible to just have a *slightly* happy ending, if just for an episode. Why does my favorite series have to depress me?

They've ruined a bunch of my favorite things about the series this season, for example they are running ruin on my favorite characters. First Spike becomes an annoying lap dog for Buffy now it looks as if Anya will go back to becoming a venagance demon, defying about two/three years of character development. The Xander and Anya relationship was one of the sweetest in the Buffyverse and it's now been ruined by the writers. I understand Xander's feelings of not wanting to become his father and that's what made the episode even more tragic.....yea a tv wedding ending badly, like that doesn't happen all the time. Why is it that I feel that Buffy is badly falling into cliches this season?

Sorry for the overly long rant. There were some things I did like about this episode. I loved the interaction between Buffy and Spike, this is the kind of thing that used to make me think that they would be good together. Also I loved the moments between Tara and Willow, I'm not really sure if I want them back together though considering the odds of couples in the Buffy universe, it might be karmaticly safer for them to just keep up the tension and flirting. All of Anya and Xander's parts were amazing and they showed great acting in their scenes; showing how wrong it was to use them so little all season long.

Next week's episode looks weird.....and strangely familar. Wait....didn't they do that on Charmed? I'm begining to think the writers are running out of ideas.

It was almost going to be happy!

I love Buffy to death... but can't we have a happy show? JUST ONCE? They built up the entire show... Xander and Anya are getting married... and they're going to be HAPPY. And then.... they go and make it all sad and Xander breaking up with Anya... and i HATE XANDER'S PARENTS! DAMN THEM!

(sorry, had to rant)

To be fair, arent tv weddings that end well also a cliché? But I definitely agree that life is pretty devoid of happiness in scoobyland right now.

They did that on charmed? Haven't watched that show since Doherty left... actually don't get to watch much tv at all any more.

Goodnight,

I disagree with you there, Minnie-May. If everything was all smiles and sunshine on Buffy, it would be just as bad. I thought that the whole Xander-Anya thing was WAY too rushed... Poor Xander is afraid that his marriage would turn out to be like his own parents'.

I happen to think that this season is a great season. 🙂 The fact that there's no one 'big bad' makes it unique. And the Trokia are great for comic relief. Then there's the buffy/spike thing (which we knew wouldn't last) and the Willow thing. Lets face it... how many times can buffy save the WORLD and have it be new and fresh?

Anya and her vows were so cute - I am so mad she didn't get to use them. I admit I thought something would happen that they wouldn't get married, but this whole thing was poor. At the very least, Xander should have said, "I don't want us to turn into my parents." As it stands, we know that's the reason, but Anya doesn't. I don't think Anya will go back to demonhood again, though, I think she'll struggle with the decision and then decide to stay human.

The whole Circus Freak thing was pretty funny, though, and Spike's date! And Halfrek is soooooo Cecily. And Buffy entertaining the guests! And Clem!

The one thing I liked about this episode was Spike and Buffy going back to the cute relationship/banter we had before with them. The whole thing with them together was just poor.

One thing - probably not anything important. But Buffy tells Xander how he's glowing and makes a joke about "is he pregnant". Then Spike says how Buffy is glowing. That seemed kind of odd to me, but surely they wouldn't do that storyline again.

Willow: "Did you see how much they drank?"
Buffy: "Kinda. Mr. Harris threw up in my purse."

Anya: "I get to be with my best friend forever!"

Dawn: "Halfrek."
Halfrek: "Call me Hallie - we're practically family now."
Dawn: "Ah. Neat."

Xander (to Buffy): "You wanna get lucky? I still got 15, 20 minutes."

Dawn: "Hey Buffy. Spike brought a date who's a total skank."

Buffy: "If you're wondering, it hurts."
Spike: "I'm sorry...er Good!...It's nice to watch you be happy...You glow."
Buffy: "That's because the dress is radioactive."

Willow (to Xander): "It's a good thing I realized I was gay or...you, me, formal wear..."

OMG I must vent about next week's ep! They sooooo copied Charmed as Minnie May said. Joss has been copying everything this season and it's really starting to piss me off. He obviously has his hands in too many baskets, trying to do too many things and the work is suffering. Buffy is my favorite show, but it's honestly making me rather see Buffy cancelled than Roswell.

I agree with Buffy on that one. Joss is defintily taking on too much and I think that Buffy is defintly suffering because of that. Buffy has, of late, been a very depressing show to watch. I hardly even enjoy watching it because I'm afraid of what is going to happen to my favorite scoobies. And I agree that everything can't always end happily but really, name me one thing or relationship that ended happily on Buffy. Not so easy is it? For BtVS unhappy is pretty much the cliche, I thought they were going to step away from that with this wedding episode but predictably they went right on making their characters unhappy and their fans sad. This season feels like it has no direction too it. 🙁

Sorry if I went off on a bit of a rant there but Buffy has always been my favorite show and I hate to see it going so downhill....there are still many good things but most of it is just....not. Angel is defintly the better of the two shows now. ^_^ tehehe again sorry for being rant-girl

Would either of you kindly tell me what happened on Charmed?

Minnie May, you're definitely right... I can't think of any relationship that ended well: Giles/Jenny, Xander/Cordelia, Willow/Oz, Willow/Tara, Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Riley, and now Xander/Anya, and I prolly left a few out. Maybe Giles and Olivia is about the closest we've gotten to having a relationship NOT end tragically. Even the friendship between Buffy/Willow/Xander has not been w/o sufficient strain/tragedy.

Parts of the episode were humorous, but in the end it was pretty sad. They have atleast done a decent job of mixing in some humor to keep me from being thoroughly depressed. OMWF was a riot, but at the same time another really sad ep.

Has Joss only written OMWF this season? I wish he would write more......

one last thing, if Xander and Anya were Buffy's 'light at the end of the tunnel' as she put it, then is she going to become more depressed and despondent now that they aren't getting married? or is she finally going to rebound a little? I thought she took some big steps by ending her fling w/ spike, and I dont want her to move backwards.

time to go lay on the beach. if only it had sand or was near the ocean...

Ohh ^_^ it's good someone agrees with me. Oh the episode of Charmed *digs through her memory* Piper was having some doubts about the fact that she never got to see any of her friends anymore and the source took her captive and trapped her in a dream or vision or something where they weren't really witches but were in an insane aslyum which was actually their house and Leo was their doctor and all that kinda stuff. And at the end the Source tried to make her say a spell that would get rid of thier powers but it didn't work and Phoebe and Paige saved the day and whatnot. So this ep of Buffy sounds to be a *lot* like the one on Charmed the more that I hear about it.

Hehe, I think Charmed also ripped off that idea from an episode of Star Trek TNG. Yaknow, the one where the aliens make Riker think that he's in an insane asylum and that his memories of the enterprise weren't real. Everything's ripped off nowadays. 😉

This episode turned out much better than I expected. I actually thought Xander would go through with it. He doesn't deserve one bit of sympathy. Anya's the one that really needs comfort right now. Unfortunately, if she does go back as Vengeance Demon, Xander better get the hell outta Sunnydale! The spoilers mention of another Scooby Death this season. Maybe, Anyanka gets killed by Buffy to prevent her from killing Xander. After all, she was truly in love with him and love makes people to crazy things. Everyone's hitting rock bottom this season. I believe the season finale's gonna be one helluva show!

This episode was so sad! Buffy, Tara, Willow, and Dawn looked so funny in those dress. But I was so sad to find out that Xander walked out on her. Anya's vows were so sweet, the first ones were really funny, but then at the last min. she came up with the sweetest speech ever, only if she could have used them. Then the way Anya found out Xander ditched her was so sad, Buffy or Willow should have told her. Then that demon kept on hitting her was really mean, but I guess that's what happens when you hurt someone badly. But at the end when Xander said they should have more time, I started to cry, Anya & Xander were my favorite couple in Buffy, but now it seems as if it's all over! Then Anya walked down the asile while she was crying and those 2 scratches on her arm, it was so sad! I was crying for her.

Ok, totally agree with you guys on the next weeks episode! That is like a total copy of Brain Drain(Charmed, Season 4, episode 6), thats really mean..they should know not to copy peoples idea. That episode better be different, really different, or I'll...ok so I will still watch it but I would just be really mad.

My opinions about the show was how predictable can we get and how much stuff are you going to rip off from Charmed?

I mean, first we see what is to be believed as "Old Xander". Ok, there's a Charmed rip off right there. However, it was pretty obvious that it wasn't an "Old Xander" anyway.

The next or maybe its the first one we see is Anya's old boss (forgot his name), and immediately I knew that she'd be offered to become a vengence demon again.

I never thought that Anya and Xander should've gotten married to begin with, although I love their banter back and forth. They are cute together, but I knew they shouldn't have gotten engaged or anything. However, having them not get married was messed up, and I do believe that Anya is the one to feel sorry for. Xander was definitely having doubts about becoming his family way before the day. I mean, its just obvious.

However, I don't think that Anya will resume her role as a vengence demon, thats if she really does love Xander. She's struggle with it, maybe become one for awhile or have flashbacks, but hopefully not turn back into one, which is weird for me to say since I've wanted her to change back for some reason, but now that she has the opportunity I don't want to see it.

Other things about the show I loved were the playfulness with Tara and Willow, and Spike and Buffy flirting, but not flirting. Funny, I want Buffy and Spike kinda back together, but I like the lil flirtation that Willow and Tara have right now. It's cute. I guess deep down I still have a thing for Willow and Oz.

Sorry its so long. Didn't mean to ramble. My first time really talking about an eppy! 😀

Last night's ep was great!! Hell's Bells is the perfect title. The brawl between the humans and demons is soooo funny. I laughed so hard. Circus folk?? I think they could've come up with a better name for the demons. Cousin Carol wanted to mack on the demon with the messed up skin!! Xander's family is too funny. I just wish his dad didn't drink so much. I think that is one of main reasons he walked away from the ceremony. He was afraid of Anya and himself becoming like his parents.

It was refreshing to see someone that Anya cursed. I thought the men that she worked the mojo on were dead. Does anyone think that she will go back to being a vengence demon? D'Hoffyrn seems to favor her more. I think that Halfrek wants to be his fave though. Anyway, it was one hell of an ep!! hehe 😀 :: tu ::

this was a crazy episode. i mean, anya looked pretty in her wedding gown although i'm not too sure about the bridesmaids' dresses. anya's vows were pretty cute and i was like "awww..." at the end. xander seemed to be pretty much ready until that demon showed up and his entire family started going crazy. i swear, his father's a total jerk! buffy seems to be glowing, which i agree with spike. they were actually having a normal coversation there this time! they laughed and stuff...now that was cute and normal 🙂 i wonder what's going to happen now that anya and xander aren't going to go down the aisle and stuff...::sighs::

I won't rant about this episode. All I can say is that the ending shocked me. You always expect to see them get married and live happily ever after, right? Not so! Xander ran scared. It broke my heart.

Well, I disagree with some of you. I loved this episode. I think this is a new beginning to some amazing episodes of Buffy. For some odd reason, I really liked the ending. You'd think that I would be hating the show for not letting Xander and Anya get married, but don't worry. Everything is going to get better. Xander and Anya are not over yet. Just wait and see. I thought Nicholas Brendon did fantastic acting at the end when he told Anya he couldn't go through with it. Truthfully, I agree with him. If the whole thing worked out in the end...how dull would that be. There has to be some complication. That's what is making the show better. Anybody out there with simliar likings?

I actually enjoyed this episode. One big reason was this was an episode that didn't show Buffy and Spike having sex 3 or 4 times. I'm sorry, but that got really annoying really fast. Like the second time they had sex. ::thumb:: Anyway, Hell's Bells was a lot better than I expected. Although it was so predictable (Xander and Anya not getting married, "old Xander" being a demon, D'Hoffryn offering Anya her old job, etc.) it was still well played out. Xander's parents make mine look like Mary & Joseph (of the Bible)! The emotion Anya showed was so real it made me want to cry for her! ::crying:: ::crying:: And the banter between Buffy and Spike was so sweet. I miss that part of their relationship. And Willow and Tara look like they're becoming good friends again. I think Joss is doing a good job of how he's showing them after the breakup. Dawn was actually very well behaved again. It's nice to see her calm down a bit. Plus, her with that demon teenager was so cute! I wouldn't have been surprised if they hooked up, considering the relationships on Buffy. So overall, this was a good episode. Next week looks even better, even though many have said it's very close to the episode "Brain Drain" from Charmed (which I've seen).

My apologies for babbling on and on. I tend to do that after having excessive amounts of chocolate. Go figure.

hurray I'm an 'Initiate' and not a 'virgin' anymore!! 🙂

To everyone,

Thanks for filling me in on the charmed episode.

Also, just had a thought regarding Hell's Bells.......

Obviously we know that Xander was afraid of his marriage turning out like his parents'. But I was thinking that vision of him hitting Anya might have scared him more. It would terrify him to think that he might have that kind of violence in him, and that he might do something to physically hurt Anya. Kind of in the same vein as when Wes (after contact w/ Billy) was ashamed of himself for attacking Fred. Both are inherently "good" guys who would never hurt anyone, but would be very afraid and confused if somehow presented (via demon-vision, or demon-infection) with the idea that they do have a capacity for violence towards people they care about.

Just some ramblings before bedtime.

PS- While I'm here, is there a way to get my own avatar? I mean besides pictures of the cast? I like the cast and all, but none of them seem too viking-esque!!
