Official Discussion of "Normal Again" (UPN-US)

Ok, so charles gunn, you believe, like me, there is no way the past 6 yrs have been an hallucination and the hallucination was just something she wanted to belive in so that she didnt have to accept the hard things in her life?!
LM, you kinda helped but im still kinda confused . . . ! So do you belive that the buffy-verse-slayage is real or the mental home?!

😀

I loved this episode; the fact that she get slipping back and forward, with the final scene at the end I would find it pretty easy to believe that it was simply her delusion! I did like though ,teh little explanation of Dawn; Joss' bite back at the critiscisms of Dawn; that she upset the timeline and everything had to be re written to support her existence. I was actually laughing at that point because it was such a good moment for everyone who critiscused the introduction of Dawn!

Lol, i agree! That was so funny!
AND can i just say, this was a prime example of buffy's clever writing to a tee: how she had 'died' in one world, meaning that she had 'recovered' briefly and been with her parents; the dawn thing - everything!
But the whole mental home was the hallucination, right?! Coz im quite worried now!!!!!!!!!

😀

i think marti noxon has said NA was a one off what if episode.i think it was a good way to explore buffy's state of mind

Well I still do believe that this theory could be a winner and feature in future episodes... I mean who's to say that this isn't the deluded fantasy of a teenage girl... who needs to be special in a world that doesn't have time for the youth of today.. yes in the perfect world everything is hunky dory... but maybe, just maybe this world created in Buffys mind, is her way of dealing with growing up.... hehe she'll snap outta it once she reaches the menapause... 😀

But still it may have been a way to explore Buffys state of mind... an insight into her being at this current point in her life

the main reason that it can't "all be a dream" is it would belittle everything that's happened

But would it belittle everything that has happened thus far. Who's to say you are not apart of someones own idea of a perfect world or maybe we aren't really here at all... you're just creating this world to suit your own purpose, to act upon your own fantasy of what life should or could be like...

After all Buffy was the creation of one man, his fantasy, his dream... he made it a reality... he can belittle if he wants to, for the greater good if need be.

which greater good would that be?would we be able to believe in the tension of a situation when we know they may say its all a dream if a situation got too tricky for them to write comfotably around.to care about the characters i need to believe in them.
and if i created this world around me i say "all a dream is" a copout therefore it is so?i wish(or maybe not)

If everything really is a dream, then that would mean that Angel doesn't exist either. And since Buffy doesn't know what's going on with Angel and everyone, that probably means she can't have created it in her mind. But then again I dunno, it's all v confusing.

so what we're saying is can a dream create a sub dream reality.is it possible to dream from a third person viewpoint.i've also read somewhere that you are every character in your dream therefore buffy is spike, angel, xander, willow....etc.....etc...man she's one complex character.which i guess is a good thing.more interesting.so now have i convinced myself LM's theory is posssibly right..?......or maybe this is a dream and i am LM trying to convince myself its all wrong.(or right)
i think i may not watch "normal again" again.its scaring me.

Ok, everyone - time for my view again (dont sigh)!
Firstly, glad to hear what Marti said *phew*.
I agree that it cant be a dream - after 6 years!? And i dont think they will come back to it in the future. It was a great idea but i doubt it that later they will come out and say "out of 6 series, thats the only episode that has shown reality"!
Also, i dunno if its just me, but im feeling a bit of the matrix going on! The whole idea that we arent even here, creating our own world, reminds me of the film as everyone was really in a big jar-thing and it is all in your mind!
I agree with Lindsey about angel-thing - good point! Then his whole series would be in her head - i dont think so.
But i get what youre saying, guys . . . i just disagree slightly!

😉
