Official Discussion: 7.11 "Showtime"

"SHOWTIME"
Buffy's training of the Potential Slayers takes on a greater urgency as they and the Scoobie gang race against time to try and defeat the Ubervamp, who guards the cave where Spike is being held captive. Meanwhile, Anya and Giles meet with an oracle-like creature who has unsettling information about Buffy's past and future.
 
I guess this is more....Pre-Discussion.

Sounds kinda like a filler episode. I mean yeah, plot advances, but it's mostly Buffy training up the crew and some Oracle thing (wouldn't it be cool if they were like the oracles in the first season of Angel? They rocked!) gives away a bunch of hints that we'll all conjecture into a bunch of fancies and weird ideas and such that will all prove to be completely wrong or completely right.
 
BAS - Yeah, but there are always plot advances that happen that UPN doesn't tell us, so I'm waiting on a very very good ep.

PS. I thought that putting Pre-Discussion and Official Discussion would save a thread.. they're almost the same thing anyway...
 
They're not! ... But since the plot advance this much I wouldn't call it a filler!

I definetly cannot wait for the new episode... I just wonder what information the Oracle will have about Buffy's future...
 
All B/A-episodes are very well written. Name one that isn't!

Is Ashanti supposed to be playing the Oracle? Didn't Wanda at E! say something about Ashanti playing the part of a oracle on Buffy?
 
No it was funny in it's way ... I just love the hat, actually the whole outfit. Why does everybody hate this particular episode? (gr?)
 
It was such a crappy epp! the story was cheesy and it was just plain annoying. stupid doublemeat.

does anyone know why there isn't a video preview of Showtime on the website? anyone know where I can get one?

I'm a collosal fan of BTVS, but I too have to disagree when someone says there are no badly written Buffy episodes.

Here's a couple more nominees for badly written Buffy episodes:

The Puppet show;

Plan 9 from Outer Space bad

Superstar;

An effort to push the boundries that just didn't work

Buffy vs Dracula;

Marti Noxon--what were you thinking

Hell's Bells;

The wedding of Anya and Xander. Is there one likable character in the whole episode? It's painful to watch.

Him;

The only bad entry so far in season 7 and my nominee as the worst Buffy episode ever written. It's the only time I ever had to change the channel while watching a Buffy episode.

I would also like to nominate Drew Z Greenberg as the Buffy series worst writer. Is he or she related to someone or something.

One thing I have to say about Buffy though; even the worst episodes have some interesting bits. Even with Him, I kind of enjoyed the first five minutes.
 
:O .... The PuppetShow was one of the better S1 episodes, Superstar was just plain funny, Buffy vs Dracula was a great way to open the season, Hell's Bells well what Xander did was stupid, but nevertheless, the episode by itself was done well, and Him, was incredibly funny!
 
Buffy is a great show...but i guess there's quite a bit of bad written ep among it...i can't think of any ep from the past season but "HIM" from season 7 is not as good as the rest.

See not every ep is well-written!

But there are more well written ep. i like "restless" a lot. i wish Joss write more ep like this in the future.
 
Good point, let's just say: Every episode is well written and some are even better written. And remember that though sometimes, we don't really like the events that take place, but that doesn't nescessairly mean the way the effents are described is bad!
 
I didnt like how double meat palace was written though, it was like the cheapest episode ever ::thumb::

The rest are either good or extremly well written though 🙂 ::wave::
 
You know what? I just went back and reread the Puppet Show. It isn't as bad as I rememberered.

I can almost forgive those ridiculous scenes of the puppet running around the balcony with a butcher knive in his hand, when the episode also contains bits like this one;

"Snyder: Kids today need discipline. That's an unpopular word these days, 'discipline'. I know Principal Flutie would have said, 'Kids need understanding. Kids are human beings.' That's the kind of woolly-headed, liberal thinking that leads to being eaten"

I stand by my opinion of the other episodes I mentioned though. In my opinion those episodes are watchable only by the standards of us radical fans, or Saturday morning cartoons.
