LOL... Guys, you know what we should do? ALL of us Spuffies and Bangels should secretly choose a day where ALL of us switch sides (like, all of the Bangels become spuffies, all of the spuffies become bangels), without any notice to anybody else, and without giving an explanation.

It would be so funny as an April Fools Day joke! Like, the non-Bangel/Spuffy members would wake up, sign on to BB, see xaphania with a Bangel siggie/av and Kean with a Spuffy sig/av, and then notice Tranquility arguing on behalf of Bangel and Tajana on behalf of Spuffy, and go : erm : Something is VERY wrong with this picture... And we wouldn't tell anyone why we switched, just say that we all finally found the truth. :biggrin3: And then, as soon as April 2nd came, we'd all completely deny it ever happening. Doesn't that sound AWESOME?

(Except, drat, know they'll know our secret plan! Still, hopefully everyone will forget in time for our April Fools Day joke next year. (sw) )

I think Joan was onto something yesterday when she said that she didn't connect with Bangel because she could not relate to what Buffy and Angel have together, it doesn't reflect anything of her life. I think that is a huge part of why ships pick you rather than you picking ships.

I haven't had the epic love but I believe in its possibilities and its power and so Bangel resonates in me.

Alot of what Spuffy is I don't believe in so I don't "get it".

This is it, this is the crux of it. Your ship picks you. You do not pick your ship.

Honesty, you think I don't wish EVERYDAY that I shipped Bangel? You know how much easier it would be for me? There's a future for Bangel, there isn't for Spuffy. Unfortunately, as Kean says, Bangel doesn't resonate with me. I feel nothing for it, really.

I didn't wake up one day and decide to be obsessed with one of the most controversial ships in television history. It's not like I made a conscious decision to choose to love and believe in a ship that has almost no chance of a future together. Spuffy chose me. I had no say in the matter. 🙂

Honestly? No. You're either a shipper or you're not. You have to chose a side. Bangel represents everything Spuffy is not, and vice versa. I think it next to impossible to appreciate both.

Just as Kean views the show through a Bangel lens, I view it through a Spuffy lens. That's just how it is. It's my primary interest in the show, and my opinion of their relationship colors everything in the series for me. In the end, I want what's best for Buffy. She's my girl. Spike's my guy. So yeah, I look at the show through their eyes.

I'm neither a Spuffy nor a Bangel, possibly because I like Cordelia best for Angel and Spuffy creeped me out. Maybe I should take a month out per those 'ships? I'll think about it.

I disagree. I appreciate and enjoy both ships equally - each one at their own time and place for Buffy, as a part of her character development.

Are most of the really serious shippers female? Maybe I should start a poll. I'm on another board that's almost exclusively female and there's even more shipping there than here. I know my husband can enjoy shows/books without all the shipping stuff but it's my favorite part.

Well, sweetheart, I would... Except I don't enjoy Bangel. 😉 I mean, I don't strongly dislike it anymore, and I feel more or less completely confident that I could teach Bangelism to someone, but is Bangel the 'ship for me? Nah, I find it to be too angsty and too boring. 🙂

Although, just between us girls (and anyone else who happens to be reading this thread (sw) ), I do feel a bit cut off from Spuffy. I still love it, but it's kind of like the fire went out of it for me. I dunno. I guess last month just helped me realize how much I love the friendship in the show and the earlier seasons. 🙂 Spuffy just seems a bit mundane to me in comparison to the rest of the show, the real essence of it. I find myself being more wrapped up in 'ships such as Fresley, Dangel, and Cangel.

But hey, that's OK. There comes a time in every 'shippers life when you just have to stop obsessing for a little while, and start considering. 🙂

Anyway, I also wanted to tell you guys something that I forgot to mention earlier: See, in the beginning of the month, I had an epiphany about the way Bangels and Spuffies view Bangel:

See, I've always thought that Spuffies were the more literal people. IMO, Bangel is something that has to be felt and not thought about, and then Spuffy is something that everyone should like automatically. 😉 Heh, just kidding. It seems to me like Spuffy is a love it or hate it thing, and many bangels find it to be too in-your-face realistic.

But I'm really just going on about nothing with that. See, what I realized last month, was that one quote from Helpless perfectly describes that way that Bangels and Spuffies view Bangel: "That's beautiful. Or taken literally, incredibly gross."

The Bangels don't take it literally, so they see Bangel as Beautiful. 🙂 On the other hand, Spuffies do take it literally, and see it as incredibly gross. Or just incredibly boring. 😀

And I had a quote that described Spuffy in the eyes of Spuffies and Bangels... But I can't remember it. :confused2:


Anyway guys, since the month is over, I want to tell you Bangels why us Spuffies think that Spuffy is more fun and lighter, whereas Bangel is in the dark and dank part of the dungeon: Angel has a curse that means that he can never have perfect happiness. Ergo, he and Buffy were never perfectly happy, except that one time which resulted in him becoming Angelus. Ergo, the 'ship can't be perfectly happy, and since they kept breaking up to not be happy, it means that happy moments were extremely far and few between. 😉 Whereas with Spuffy there's no curse and they went out with fire and flames, baby! It was probably happier. Since they could have perfect happiness.

So, in conclusion, you guys should try out Spuffy, it's a lot more fun then it seems. Nobody ever "can't breath" and whatnot. 😉

But anyway, my theories are probably complete rubbish, especially since everyone is unique in their 'shipping. Some Spuffies love Fluffy!Spuffy, some hate it. Some Bangels love Bangelus, some are sickened by it. It all varies from person to person. 🙂

Alright, I've come to realize something. Last month has not changed my perspective of Bangel, at all. I'm more comfortable in the Bangel forum (Except I always end up having to rush out of there, I disagree so much with what everyone says), but that's about it. What it really did was change my perspective of Spuffy, and, on extension, Buffy-centric 'ships ('ships that involve Buffy). They all annoy me now, Spuffy included (the majority of the time). I'm more into Willow-centric 'ships, Fred-centric 'ships, Angel-centric 'ships, and Cordy-centric 'ships than ever, but Buffy? Nah, she's at her best with her friends at her side. 🙂 They're "doomed" romatically, and I love that. S8 aside, none of Buffy's relationships have lasted, but the friendship of the Core Four/Three has always overcome any trouble.

Anyway, moving on, I also realized another obvious reason for why I find Bangel so cringe-worthy: As stated before, I find it to be incredibly unrealistic and flat, and I don't relate with it at all. When I'm watching the most "heartbreaking" or "heartwarming" Bangel scenes out there, like the ones in IWRY, Amends, Becoming pt2, The Prom, Graduation Day pt. 2, and any other episode, I feel nothing. Nothing at all. On the other hand, with 'ships like Tillow, Woz, Cangel, Dangel, Fresley, and others, I am overcome with emotion. 🙂

We all do. It's canon.

What ever happened to, "We make our own fate"? Or "Destiny is for those who are too afraid to make their own decisions"? Or maybe even, "It's always darkest before the dawn"? We're SPUFFIES, by god, not some stupid canon fodder. Did Spike give up when Glory chained him up and rammed her finger into his chest? Or when the bugs crawled up his nose when he was fighting to EARN his soul? Did Spike give up when the First Evil sicced the ubervamp on him? Did Spike turn and run away when the amulet was burning him to a crisp? Melting his eyeballs? singeing his beloved leather trench coat? HELL NO, HE DIDN'T!

Now you're gonna back down because of a couple of COMIC BOOKS? Rebeca, I am appalled at you. Spuffies are made of sterner stuff than that. Stand up, girl, square those shoulders. Stand tall. Find a Bangel and spit in his eye. Go get your official "Spuffies Gone Wild" tee shirt and wear that sucker with pride. Tell that fat lady that you don't care whether she EVER sings or not, it ain't over 'til the Spuffies say it's over. Never forget, FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS SHIP BANGEL. Say it. Believe it. LIVE IT!

Now, get back in there, soldier, and get your Spuffy on. I don't expect to have to tell you that twice.

Favourite episode in regard to Spuffy? Does anything beat "Touched"? In terms of raw emotion between the two i don't think "Touched" can be beaten by any other episode. Its in that episode that i began to realize that the relationship was a lot more than lust.

Honestly, I think while it looks bad for Spuffy, it looks infinitely worse for Bangel. I'm not a Bangel and would never ever want to be one, but if I were one, I'm dead sure I would abandon ship after the last two comic issues. Twangel is a disgusting creep who deserved to be killed, no questions asked, no quarter given. I think everyone who's happy about Buffy ending up with him like this must have some kind of serious psychological problem, especially if they still rattle their boneboxes in the same breath as to how disgusting S6 Spuffy was. I can't wrap my mind around the kind of insane troll logic that can hold up both views, "Twuffy = sweet twu wuv destiny, Spuffy = disgusting abusive sex" at the same time.

There may be reasons to ship Bangel-as-it-was (even though I, for personal biographical reasons, don't see merit in it, am abhorred by its flaws, and don't even want to pretend to like it), but Bangel-as-it-is ("Twuffy") is so disgusting and depraved that I fail to see how any sane, decent person can ship it or can even want to ship it. I daresay you need to be in a continent of denial to find redeeming virtues in its utter perversity.
