I don't know if it's the board, or my crappy computer, tho....so if it IS my computer, please let me know so I can fix it?

I think this is a script problem, because the first thing that happened was that I was trying to PM someone and you know how that box pops up when you type the first couple letters of the user name? Well, it didn't.

The other thing is that when I give rep, instead of a box popping up to type the rep in, it changes to a whole new page (which opens in the same tab I'm in). When I finish typing the rep and click on Add Reputation, it reloads the page I was on. It does put the rep in, but I thought it was weird how it loads a whole new page like that.....

Edit: I just noticed another thing. When I click on the Options menu at the top, nothing happens, it just reloads the current page. So, I guess my problem is that I'm not getting any of the little pop-up menus that I usually get.
 
It's your computer.

You should check that your computer is allowing popups and such. Those things are done via Ajax. Have you changed any settings or updated or changed browsers?
 
No, I haven't. Where should I check? I wonder if my Norton changed something, because they used to work....today is the first day this has happened. I thought it might be my computer, tho, eBay's giving me problems, too.




Edit: Ah HA! I set it back to defaults and it seems to be working now! Yayyy! Thanks, Buffy! 😉
 
That darn Norton has given me so many problems lately....I'm getting quite aggravated with it! Thanks for your help!
 
I hate Norton. I had it before and it somehow got corrupted and locked me out of the program. The parental controls got set to child/teen and I couldn't turn them off. It said to log on as the admin but we only had one account on the computer (the admin one). I couldn't turn it off or delete it. It took me over a week to find a back door around the problem and delete from my hard drive. Stupid program. I had more trouble with it then it was worth.

My internet connection comes with McAfee free so we use that now.

You know, I finally had to just get rid of it, it did that locking me out thing, too.
Yeah. Norton came on my computer, and I almost NEVER got the dern thing off! I like the free version of AVG a whole lot better

Well, in all honesty, I don't think the fault is entirely Norton's. I've never had problems with it before, so I don't know what the deal is now, but it's fighting with my Spybot. With the two of them duking it out, and this computer being so crappy anyway (it's needed a system recovery TWICE now), I'm sure it was just a matter of time before I ran in to "issues!"

WA, do you have a link for what you use? I may just uninstall the Norton and have done with it. It's never minded my Spybot before, so this is all very weird to me!
 
I never had issues with Norton until it locked me out. and I had it for years. Then suddenly I wasn't able to open certain websites and couldn't download. I've since had to do a complete recovery on that computer and it came preinstalled so I had to uninstall it to put the McAfee back on. It kept popping up every 2 seconds wanting to know if we wanted to update. The program is possessed, I tell you, lol.

You know, that sounds like exactly what I have going on, altho it hasn't locked me out of anything yet! So, maybe the fault IS Norton's after all.....

Just type in "free downloads," and you'll find a ton of stuff available. Games, programs of all kinds, whatever you want. Just take your pick. Then, when that one expires (a couple of years, I think, you can either buy the real one or shop around for another free sample. The thing I like most about AVG is that it updates every few days, so it's always up to date (maybe they all do that, I really don't know, but AVG does.). AND IT'S ALL FREE!!
 
LOL, no stranger to free downloads! Gotta love it. At one time or another I've had software to do practically everything except brush my teeth. Only a matter of time before they make something for that, too, LOL!

AVG Free

I used to use AVG. As I recall I was more or less happy with it, but something happened. I can't remember what. Something like they wanted everybody to reregister, or something like that. Oh I do remember one thing. It was good at detecting, but not so good at cleaning. You had to clean manually sometimes.

I went to Avast Free. I'm quite satisfied with it so far. No reason to go back to AVG.

Here's another little freebie I kind of like.

Win Patrol

It gives you information on your startup, and allows you some control over what does what in there, but the neatest thing it does is it warns you if anything tries to sneakily add itself to the registry. It allows you to stop it.

Myself, I think the Firefox Browser is more secure than IE. I'm not an active X fan for one thing, and you can add security add-ons to Firefox such as No Script which prevent scripts from being on the web pages you visit unless you allow them.

I've used Norton. I wouldn't go back. It seems to think it has more right to control of your machine than you, or any other process. I disagree.

I've had no probs with AVG Free on PCs. I'd also recommend Zone Alarm's free firewall as an extra security measure for a PC -

How come everyone on TV uses Macs but very few of us do in real life, which is strange because Macs knock spots off PCs...

There have been some created but none have been released 'in the wild' as far as I've read yet...not enough people using Macs as compared to PCs yet, so I guess there's no profit or whatever currency virus-creating numpties use in it 🙂 Probably even less profit in Linux viruses 🙂
 
Since this computer is definitely on it's last legs, I have a new one arriving next week. I can't believe this one has lasted as long as it has, because it's OLD....poor thing. Anyway, I'm going to look in to all the links and suggestions everyone made when I get my new PC, I thank you all!
