Olympics 2024

The coverage is the best I have ever seen, perhaps a perfect time difference in that the best stuff is on tv at dinner time for me 😀 really enjoyed watching the eventing. Its a massive achievement to even get around those courses and finish safe. Beautiful grounds and jumps. There have been so many changes in rules, and all for the better. I remember Gillian Rolton finishing her rides with broken bones, its better now to have safe rounds that are a joy to watch. Shane Rose didnt medal but finished midfield and safe. Virgil is such a star, really looked after his rider. And at 19 years old, love to see it! Christopher Burton got silver in the individual event with some great riding to watch. Wondering where Shadowman will go next. In his prime right now. Still not sure what happened with McNab, Im gona have to go google that.

But dont all the Olympics have cardboard beds? The anti sex beds? One part is sport, one part is giant orgy. So, again the opening ceremony is sorta fitting for france lol.

Ideally they would just rotate like the UN Security Council, with four cities that can really hold the Olympics and one wildcard, or something.
 
Nah its better to have it move around because it opens opportunities outside of the sport aspect. Like, Perth has direct to Paris flights due to the Olympics and will keep them for a while, which opens the tourism both ways.

Harry the aussie Boxer out in the first round. Sad for him, he seems such a genuine soul.

Hockey is still boring to watch, I truly do not understand the appeal of it. Archery was way more fun.

I do like it when the less well off countries win medals.

I've been to two hockey games with friends, and the appeal is obvious: fights. When I saw the Dallas Stars several years ago they were running a season highlights video on a loop before the game started. Over 70% of the highlights were fights, including one where a player from the other team was injured severely enough they couldn't finish the game.

Ouch! We dont really have ice hockey in Australia. This was just the normal hockeyroos, they get in trouble if they accidentally hold their cashew stick wrong

I rekon it was the prettiest Olympic eventing course I have ever seen. The show jumps are works of art as well. Really beautiful location and nice stadium.

The womans BMX was a great race, mainly cos the story behind the gold medalist was one of the most promoted of the games. They've put a backstory package behind a number of athletes which almost makes it more like reality TV, especially when they end up winning gold. Same with Kayaking.

I actually haven't seen much swimming which is almost a relief! Most years that is all I see. There is so much more variety with separate streams and the time difference being perfect to watch from here. Very impressed.
 
Had bits of it on. The coverage in the UK isn't great this year. I think the organisers carved things up differently for more money so we're only getting 2 live options. I did stumble across the Kayak Cross finals earlier. Never heard of it before but it looked like brilliant fun.
 
Well yeah. Aside from the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Olympics as a whole match favorably with the excitement of Golf. I mean, 80% of the sports seem to be the type where the only fans are the people who play the sport, with the remaining twenty percent being, like what, gymnastics?

Watched the swimming and gymnastics. The swimmers technique was so impressive and precise, they swam like dolphins.

It's not the medal is actually split in half. You both get one!
At the end of it, any medal win is a good one, but this is a bit of a head scratcher.

I guess athletic mindset stepped in? "I am the best and I'll get the gold" or "Let's see who is better" type of thing?
 
I've really been enjoying the Olympics this year! As someone who doesn't watch sports, the Olympics is one of the few times I enjoy sports. Mostly cause of the individual competitions, like Track and Field. I am sad I did miss the US gymnastics, mostly because the streaming coverage was all over the place on Peacock. There's just so many events.
