At the end of OMWT, when Spike and buffy sing to each other...I noticed the lines, and their meanings. Some other people probably noticed this as well, but...oh well.

(Buffy's and Spike's following verses overlap.)
BUFFY
I touch the fire
and it freezes me
I look into it and
it's black
The isn't real
But I just want to feel

SPIKE
I died too many years ago
You can make me feel

Of course, Spike's lines are the same as his original song, as well as Buffy's first few. But Buffy says something different in the end. In italics, it shows she says, "This isn't real, but I just want to feel." Foreshadowing what she and Spike's "relationship" was about. She tells him everything she does with him and what he thinks is her love, isn't real. She then says she only want to feel, showing she knows she's using him just to feel after comign back from Hell. Willow says later, "you screw a vampire just to feel" again echoing that line. Of course, Buffy also sleeps with Spike for other reasons, thinking that she came back wrong, or just not feeling right with herself, then dragging herself down to his level, so sleeping with him is alright, and she's not left with a sense of guilt or anger with herself...

Just wondrin' if anyone else agrees...or caught that. : totallyo

they both sleep w/ each other for the same reason to feel---but isnt that basicley why you partake in intercourse in the first place?.... have to think about it more ... been thinking about s6 well I always think about s6...

I love this season, which is why I chose it to mod...and you just picked up one of the hundreds of reasons why! We'll be thinking about this season for a long time.

I love this season too. I don't think "feeling" is the only reason why we partake in intercourse (as you put it). Human nature is to find a partner to mate with and reproduce. Our main reason is that we need to carry on our gene pool. The other reasons follow this... like attraction, love, and fun.

Buffy and Spike couldn't reproduce however. Buffy didn't really know what she wanted with Spike. Yes, she wanted to feel, but Spike loved her (and I truely believe he did). I think, on some level, Buffy had feelings for him and was afraid to show them. He asked her in one episode if she actually liked him at all and she said sometimes. I think this means that when she wasn't thinking about what her friends would say she actually got lost in the moment and enjoyed being in his company (other than when they were sleeping together.).

So they connected in many many ways but the one spike did want because buffy had fears and well quite a few walls up-- I think she (still loves em') loved him but she couldnt let herself because the last time she did that Angel happened -- I think its a fear thing sorta I'm not sure what I'm getting at -- It would'nt of been so hard if there was'nt something there they both lost each other in themselves and ultimitley in the end where better for it...( I'm not sure where I'm going wioth this--so embarrassed I said that!)

I think Buffy's behaviour has a degree of self-loathing to it as well as the other points you all have made so well. She was convinced she came back different, and didn't deserve to be in heaven (or else why was she pulled back to "hell" as she called living?). She had failed in many other relationships, notably Angel, and I think she did what she did with Spike with a sense of "I'm not worthy of a "good" guy" so I'll date an evil one because that's what I deserve. Her evolution from that mindset was one of the most compelling story arcs of S6.

the lyrics were a foreshadowing for "chosen" as well.
when their clasped hands were aflame and buffy told spike she loved him - he told her she didn't, but thanked her for saying so. and buffy knew she didn't love him as he wanted her to because she still loved angel - so it all still wasn't real.
but she could feel now, the fire wasn't freezing her anymore. she was self-conscious and aware, no longer lost or confused.

That's how I interpreted the relationships too :)
I hadn't really paid much attention to these lyrics, but now that I think about them they sound foreshadowing of Normal Again. Particularly "This isn't real."

I didn't even think about that until I saw this thread. Well done for noticing!! I agree. That was definatley about her relationship with Spike. She was like, warning him about what she was really feeling, and why, before they kissed.
