"Once More With Feeling" in French!

Ooh, yeah, we have our version of the episode, but it doesn't equal the quality of the original. But I'm glad to have another version. Some of the doublers are good (Claire Guyot for example, who make Sarah's voice, is a singer in her life, and she also has done the voice of The Little Mermaid ).

Here's a video of a convention with Nicholas Brendon, where she sings the French version of "Going through the motions" 🙂

Miss Kitty - thank you for the link! It's so unexpected and funny.

As far as I know, French is the only language OMWF was dubbed to. I watched the German version - the dialogs were in German but the songs were in English.

HAHAHAHA! Thanks so much for this link! I personally always disliked listening to OMWF in french because most of the dubs are terrible, and most songs make like no sense... But still, it's great to have access to all of them quickly. 🙂 Also, bonus points for the midi versions! I love those!

Rest in Peace in french is both awesome and hilarious. 😀

I was so happy when I heard the songs in French and so disappointed other dubs didn't do the same thing. It's so much fun and such a bold move! Singing OMWF in different langages. 🙂

What I really dislike about the French dub was changing Xander's name into Alex. Xander is so unique and Alex is so.... random.

It comes from the fact that the French version of "Alexander" is "Alexandre", and it's a really popular name in France. And the diminutive is Alex, for everyone who has this name 🙂 "Xander" in French sounds really, really weird.

But I understand that this choice could displease 🙂

lol!

I know. But still, I'd have loved to have him been called Xandre than Alex. 😀 In the Italian version, he's Ksander.

Well, I guess we can consider ourself lucky that they actually went and dubbed the songs in french. 😛 Just that some of them were lame... Most of the time when I showed OMWF to friends, I'd switch to english during the songs, 'cause it was just that much better.

And as for the Xander/Alex thing, I agree! Alex is soooo common... And the characters in BtVS all have such unique names. But still, you get used to it when you watch it in french a lot. 😉 Xandre would sound silly, haha! And sometimes Buffy actually called him Alexandre. Which was... neat!

What's the difference between MIDI and MP3?

An mp3 file is a recording. A midi file is a set of data which a synthesizer uses to recreate a specific piece.

Think of an mp3 as a record that your computer plays like a record player. Think of a midi file as a piece of sheet music which your computer reads and then plays on a virtual piano. 🙂

is Xander a common name in the US? I never heard it anywhere else, so to me Xander sounds really really weird in English!

I won't mind Xandre at all, and with time it would sound okay. I mean, Buffy is a very silly name and now I find it adorable and no name suits the character better.

Xander was very weird. When I first heard it, I was like, what's that? When I learned that Xander is short for Alexander, I was so impressed. Using the end of the name instead of the beginning was very fresh, as I've never heard anyone do that but Beth in Little Women.

Oh, the songs are so cool in French! "Walk through the Fire" is my favourite. As usual with French songs, I have a really hard time singing along, since the language necessitates longer words or more words to say the same thing. "Going through the Motions" is pretty much impossible for me to properly follow. Although Claire Guyot has such a pretty voice.

My initial exposure to Buffy was actually through the tie-in novelization of Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest for my Grade 8 French class. Intruiged, I asked for the first season for my birthday. Imagine how surprised I was that Alex's name was actually Xander!

;) I read some of the novels as a teen too!
Merci beaucoup !

I didn't know about it. The German version was subtitled. The Spanish too I think...

I funny to see that the fandom spreads to such a point ..

Greetings

Now I feel ripped!! In Germany there is only the englsih original song with german subtitle! They didn't do the work to let the synchronvoices sing the songs in german! 🙁 Maybe they couldn't sing as good as the american acteurs!
;D
