From vengeance demon to child-eating witch: it’s a natural career progression. According to TVLine, Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Emma Caulfield (Anya) will be guest starring in the ninth episode of ABC’s major new fairy-tale-themed TV series Once Upon A Time, appearing as the “incredibly scary and frightening” blind witch from the Hansel and Gretel story. Caulfield confirmed the casting via Twitter.

Caulfield joins a geektastic guest cast for the show (which threatens to rival Chuck in the stunt casting stakes) which includes Kristin Bauer Van Straten (True Blood), Alan Dale (Lost), Jessy Schram (Falling Skies) and David Anders (The Vampire Diaries, Heroes).

Thank you, I was wondering about this! I don't think I can set the DVR yet though, it only tells you shows a week in advance and I know I'm going to forget! 🙁

No, I've never seen it. But I've seen Ginnifer in other movies and stuff. She's so cute, even when she was chubby. 😛

You really need to watch it someday- excellent series, one of my favorites!
This premieres on my daughter's birthday, October 23rd... Can't wait; it seems like it's gonna be awesome! My kids even want to watch it.

So what did everybody think? ???

It was cool to see Emma back on television again, although I almost didn't recognize her when I first saw the promo. After seeing her as the quirky, funny vengeance demon on Buffy this was a total 180-- she was so evil in the most twisted way. I can imagine it must have been a new challenge for her to play a blind character too. Was that always a part of the Hansel and Gretel story? I don't seem to recall...

(...and seriously, what an elaborate costume. It almost seems like the set was SO sweet and cute that they had to make her that much scarier. Definitely would've given me nightmares as a kid! :silly: )

I thought she was amazing in this episode. She did come across as very sinister. I just wish she was in it a little more. Personally if I was Gretel I would have left Hansel there 🙂 He gets them caught then he messes up the rescue.

Oh my go- I feel like crying for not realizing that the crazy old witch is Emma Caulfield.
Oh my, my mind's blown.

That's actually really amazing, in my opinion. The last time I saw her on TV was when she was Anya in Buffy. And it just amazes me how I could not have known/realize that she was the Blind Witch! GAHH!

About her acting; she was really believable. The witch scared me so much, especially with the whole makeup and wardrobe going on. Oh and when she woke up after hearing Hansel and Gretel-- freaky stuff there 😛
She was really good (maybe she'll be back in the second season?)

(Hansel was kinda annoying there too. He should have listened! Then again, that's how the story goes, right?)
