Something that I REALLY didn't get from what happened on Angel was the character of Justine. She was not a slayer, however she was INCREDIBLY strong for a woman of her weight and build. I mean if a slayer is suppose to be the one human in the world that can fight the forces of darkness then where the hell does Justine come in. I mean she fought with great agility and speed and in one episode she was able to hold a vampire as it charged after somebody. I mean I thought that was HIGHLY unrealistic as a vampire has super strength and she doesn't. So I thought that was a bad move on the writers part.

Justine was not a Slayer and there was never anything said to suggest she was. (damn, where is Al when ya need him?)

Justine was a woman who trained herself so that she was capable to fight back against vampires. it is possible for a woman to train herself to the point Justine was at. plus, she trained with Holtz as weel, who was still just human and he still managed to run Angelus and Darla to ground, cornering them in a barn, and he managed to capture Angel without breaking much of a sweat...ok, he had some gadgets to help him, but still.

She absolutely was not any stronger than she should be. She trained all the time to fight. How do you think strong men and women can lift that much and martial arts experts can fight like they do? Theyre still human. They just trained a lot.

Okay granted she did train, but regardless of how much she trained she's still human and there should be no way that she could be able to hold a chained vampire like that, because no matter how strong a human is a vampire is always much stronger. And also yeah Holtz was able to run Angelus and Darla out of town, but it wasn't like Holtz was alone. You have to remember whenever he went after them he had major back-up. He never went after them by himself

I think humans can fight vampires. If Giles and Principal Wood could hold of those uber vamps, then normal vamps are a piece of cake.

Yeah but that was a bit unrealistic too, because if you looked at it when Buffy first fought the Turok-Han it nearly killed her and would have killed her had the First not wanted her to stay alive at least for now, and even when she took it on in Showtime she had a hard time fighting it but then all of a sudden in Chosen newly risen slayers and humans took on the demons as if they were nothing. But Buffy who's been training longer and harder and is the most experienced out of all the slayers had the hardest time at first

im not sure if this is the reason why she was strong, but this thread is making me think, do you guys think justine could have been a potential? she's already got the strength, as you guys have been discussing, so to be a good slayer she'd just need some direction. the strength might not have been due to any "powers" because she's a potential; just to clarify thats not what im saying. im saying, could she have been a potential due to this?

Yeah I think it was just cuz she trained. But does anyone remember the add for her first episode, It said something like "There's a new slayer in the Mix" It wasn't cannon just in the add!

Sort of agree on both parts. At first I thought she was strangely strong for a mortal, but I guess she was just experienced. At first I thought she might be a slayer... or a wacked out, druggie weirdo, old one lol. This was before I realised that Buffy's death didn't cause a slayer to be called anymore.

Did they even feed that chained vamp? Hungry vamps are weak vamps.

I always figured that inital Turok-Han was magically enhanced.

I think she was able to do what she did because 1)she's trained 2)she's specifically aware of the existence of vampires and trained to fight them and 3)vamps she fought were relatively new castaways.

My thoughts...

Training helps, but actual world use helps more. People like Justine have an advantage over normal people or even normal people who know how to fend off muggers or rapists, in that they KNOW there are worse things out there than muggers and rapists, there are demons and vampires. Plus ongoing experience helps keep her or people like Gunn's old squad of street kids, alive.

Also, Buffyverse seems to have several tiers of vampires. There's the new/young ones that awaken, there's the lieutenant grade ones, then there's the 'big bad' types. The same way that a buncha Sunnydale seniors were able to beat up vampires, because they were largely 'grunts'.

Different vampires have different amounts of strength according to one of the articles in Wikipedia, so it's not a definite thing that any vampire should be much stronger than any human. And humans fight vampires ALL THE TIME in the Buffyverse and win. It doesn't matter how strong your opponent is, there are always ways to fight back, to win, etc. If Justine trained and was focused I think she could easily handle vampires. Not as easily as Buffy or Faith, but still.
