One of India’s busiest train stations has become a porn hub
Silicon Valley giants are competing with each other to bring the internet to nearly 1.3 billion Indians so they can have better access to education, health care, and recruitment platforms. But Indians have other priorities.

Travellers passing through one India’s busiest train stations have been using Google’s free wifi to browse for porn. Since the advent of the facility in Patna railway station last month, the location ranks as one of the top stations “in the country for using internet search, particularly search for porn sites,” a RailTel official said, according to the Economic Times. Railtel, Google’s distribution partner in India, discovered this pattern through “records of use of data by users.”

Indian men and women are avid browsers of porn sites. In 2015, Pornhub found that India was the third-highest traffic driver for Pornhub.com alone, excluding its sister sites such as YouPorn and RedTube.

Last August, the government tried to unsuccessfully to ban 857 pornographic websites—a small percentage of the total number of adult sites on the internet. Users easily circumvented the restrictions levied by internet service providers by using virtual private networks, and severe backlash from the public and the poor implementation of the ban ended in its swift termination a day after it was announced.

The conservative government that rules here has made a lot of dull statements about banning porn sites, because children. How about banning parents who allow their children full access to the internet? Porn is like the foundations of the internet lol

Most children watch porn at least at once before they are 10, and more than 99.9% of them grow up normally. If they have anything interesting to do they won't be interested in porn because they are children. If some children are psychologically affected by porn, it is because the schools/parents/communities fail to prepare enough interesting other activities for them.

Yeah. I just hate government trying to infringe on how people live their lives, so they can essentially protect parents from having to be a parent. I get that it's tough nowadays, but not everything in the world has to be suitable for children. 🙄

I have to say that is a very sweeping statement to make and I'd like to see the facts on the 10 year olds thanks (I have a personal interest in this as my daughter is nearly 10 so would be very eye opening to see that).

As far as the original post is concerned I think that you'll probably find that in most countries?? Or is it just a fad because it's new?

Yeah, even in the small town library I used to volunteer at we had patrons violate the rules by looking up porn whenever they thought they could get away with it (and even at times when surrounded by others so that they were busted instantly, though that was very rare). And porn makes way too much money (even the "free" porn) for it to be considered somehow anomalous that people with access to to the net are using it to look up porn. And even with the billions of dollars worth of it out there, people are constantly adding smutty fanfics, sometimes getting so perverse that even many porn makers would probably be ashamed to come up with something like that. 😛

Though as for my own childhood experience, I found some porn magazines under a bathroom sink when I was 13 (delayed puberty, btw) and at first I was excited that I could finally see what the big deal of this was (not to be confused so that I could turn myself on, I was just a very curious kid who would turn over stones and read up on about anything, and by then I was already asking teachers questions they couldn't answer). Unfortunately, it was very hardcore stuff so I quickly put it away with some revulsion. I'm just glad I was too naive to realize how porn got used as otherwise (having just gotten off that toilet in the bathroom there) I might've gone running home to Granny in tears. 😱😀 (I say this with some wry amusement at myself, not as some Puritan shocked that such would happen.)

10 year old kids have 12 year old friends, who have 14 year old friends.

They always share stuff with their phones. They even share the phones themselves for a minute or so sometimes.

I'm not teaching you how to be a paranoid parent though.😛
