Notice the Quotation Marks. Now that I've got your attention, I wanted to start this thread to find out if you think of your Buffy-Board friends as just plain old friends like you would anyone you met in real life or if you consider them simply "online friends". I'd like to think that there are a few people online that I consider FRIENDS....I trust them with my secrets and I always feel comfortable talking with them, be it on the boards or in some cases on the phone.

Um I think that I consider people real friends after talking to them on the phone or meeting up in person. I definitely think there is a distinction between between friends online and off, mainly because you have to be so careful nowadays. Also people can be different online than they are in person or on the phone 🙂

I used to think that some of the people I met from BB were real friends, but I come to find out they aren't as are most people you meet over the internet. There are some really great people that I talk to like BillieHunter and killerdwarf, but some of the other people I've talked to aren't worth my time.

One of the things I love about it here is I get to meet people as friends that I would never have met, at least in that way, before (I generally wouldn't just make firends with someone of a vastly different age than myself), and also people I would probably never meet because of geography and such.

It's like you get to meet people without any of the natural assumptions that you make when you meet face to face, based on gender, age, &c. I feel like I know a lot of people here better because I don't know a lot of the superficial stuff.

There's also a kind of freedom in being anonymous. It's like I can talk more candidly because none of you know my name.

I call people friends if I know them... Like, went to the mall with them or something to that nature.

I'd call you people my online friends, but I don't say that so it's just friends from someplace NOT in Hawaii. 😛

It really depends...

I have a lot of like, best online friends, who I would consider my best friends...without the online bit in them...

And then theres some other people, who I speak to occasionally...who are my online friends...so theres definitely a difference...

And then there's people I wish would be my friends, lol...

I have got to know people on the internet that has become real friends.. some that I have met in real life a lot of times.. Then there are of course those who I consider to be "only" online friends..

i worry for anyone who can't tell the differents between real and online friends!!!

real friends live in the real world and i am very social with.

unlike you lot who all just live in my computer.

ocasionally one will make the crossover.

tis good to be able to talk to your problems to people you've never met safe in the knolege you never will.

I consider some people online as my "real" friends. Simply because they know a lot about who I am and such. But I know the distinction between people online and offline. Still there are some people on this board who are a big part of my life simply because they talk more sense than some people offline! You know who you are! 😉

I totally agree with you elmo. Fortunately I've had the pleasure of meeting a couple of people from the boards and I definitely consider them friends. Especially because of the fact that we all just seemed to embrace each other without the awkwardness that sometimes goes along with these things. Unfortunately, there are some of you, who I've come to admire and enjoy conversations with that I'll probably never meet due to our lack of geographic proximity, but that doesn't mean I don't consider them any less of a friend.

Yeah, there are some of you that I'd love to meet... but you're all on the wrong side of the ocean!

I cant imagine you ever going to the mall.

Anyway, "online" friends I put them. Unless I know them in real life as well.

MP would be one of the kids I used to kick out of my store all the time for causing trouble by doing things like making dominoes out of the CD racks and spraying fart spray in the store.

🙂

It really depends.

There are a select few that I click really well with and would most probably have really fun times if I were to know them in person, but as for the rest I really don't know.

And as Buffy stated, you really don't know if the person your talking to is who they say they are. I say I'm a 17 year old boy but how do you not know that I'm a 53 year old woman?

A 53 year old woman would talk like you do hun! ;)
You'd think I'd double check what I typed before giving rep wouldn't you? *Hits self*

I meant a 53 yr old woman wouldn't talk the way you do Comma! But you got a point about not knowing who people really are!

Yep Cordelia your right, I'm your granny.

LOL elmo.

The only way to prove this is that I don't post when its raining or damp, because of my arthritis I can't type.......

If Comma were a 53 year old woman that'd be one sexually frustrated lesbian 😛

I'm just playing, but it is true that you can never really tell until you've actually met the person. And I guess just remember that if you do meet someone from the boards online, make sure you atleast talk to them on the phone first and decide on a very public place to meet (just in case they turn out to be psychos and you can get away - not that I had the urge to run or anything) 🙂

Yeah.. I've got to know people online and then met them in real life.. many times.. And som of them are still really close but.. Some are like, at first I've liked them but.. some people are just meant to be online friends.. Cause after a while I can't stand them in real life (eh) but they're were fun and all online..
