I used to think that some of the people I met from BB were real friends, but I come to find out they aren't as are most people you meet over the internet. There are some really great people that I talk to like BillieHunter and killerdwarf, but some of the other people I've talked to aren't worth my time.

Aw...I'm great people...lol...

Anyway...That's about the same way with me though...There's probably only two or three people from BB that I have really talked to...Hero being one of them...it's so difficult to trust people you never met so I only really talk to like two people outside of BB...I'm sure there are other great people around besides them, but it's just so hard to know who's really who they say they are when you are online.

When I talk about my "online" friends to my "real life" friends, I often talk about them as if they were "real life" friends. I know there's a distinction, but I usually don't consider it. It's either "really good friends", "good friends", "friends", or "aquaintences". I met my *best* friend in the world online through a friend of mine here. They dated briefly, and we quickly became best friends. I've only gotten to meet him once (he lives in CO), but we talk everyday. So...I don't disqualify anyone online as not being a "real life" friend.

MP would be one of the kids I used to kick out of my store all the time for causing trouble by doing things like making dominoes out of the CD racks and spraying fart spray in the store.
Hehe, no Dominoes for me! Although, those fart sprays stain for weeks. I'd be sneaky too! I'd just walk around and actually fart than spray the thingy. 😛

I consider my online friends real friends. It is like my real friends: I can trust some, but not all.

I think of my online friends as real friends,I can trust most of them, and they treat me better than my real friends do,I don't trust people straight away and my online friends have earnt my trust,I speak to a few on the phone on a regular basis and they're always there for me when I need them, which is more than I can say for my real life friends.

There are a couple of people I know online that I would consider real friends who I would like to meet in "real life" and even more I think of as mates who I wouldn't mind going for a drink with en masse, but I am mindful that the anonymity of the internet means that some people should be taken with a pinch of salt...not me, obviously 🙂

With me, it's kinda like- I think I shouldn't be friends with people online, but it happens anyway. I become good friends with them and it's weird to think about that the person isn't who they say they are. But I trust them anyway. Sometimes, out of the blue, I'll bring up a online friend to my best friend and she'll look at me like I'm crazy, because 1-she doesn't know the person and 2- I'm talking about them like I see them everyday. I guess it depends if the person opens up and i trust them, then I'll consider them a "real" friend.
Boy, was that a ramble.

Re:

I had to really think about that one! (Can you smell the smoke?) :happy53: But I chose online friends? I'm still not 100% sure that was the right answer for me. There are a few members that know quite a bit about me and that I really enjoy ,um, typing to. But I've yet to actually talk to a member live. I dunno! 😕 *SIGH* .....I love you guys! :love20:

Fortunately I've had the pleasure of meeting a couple of people from the boards and I definitely consider them friends. Especially because of the fact that we all just seemed to embrace each other without the awkwardness that sometimes goes along with these things.

There are people online that I consider to be real friends, that would the situation be any different, i.e should we live in the same area, I would end up out with most of the time. This type of friendship on the internet is hard to come by because of the dangers. But i've done it many times now even going all the way to NY to meet people from here and I don't regret it. And never once did I think they were anything other than they appeared to be. But I didn't go cold I was speaking via the phone for well over a year now as I get cheap calls to the states. And if the others would give me their numbers i'd call them to 😉

tis good to be able to talk to your problems to people you've never met safe in the knolege you never will.

This is a very good point. As eset said too, anonymity is liberating in a lot of ways.

That being said, I've become very attached to some of the people here, to the point of wishing I could have face-to-faces with some of them. The one thing to remember is that back when there was only mail, some people were "pen-pals" with each other their whole lives...I see this as being analogous, except with a whole lot shorter time-delay.

The fact that the internet gives you a sense of anonymity doesn't take away from the fact that I try to be myself as much as possible and sometimes more than in real life. It's easier talking to people over the net than face to face. If they decide to judge you then you don't have to see that look in their eyes. Although, saying that, I would love to meet some of the people I've met online (KD is one of them). I feel that I can trust them. But I wouldn't be silly if I was to go through with it. I would make sure, as far as possible, that they were who they said they were, meet up in a well crowded area, that type of thing. 😀

I agree with you on that one. When i'm online i'm just the same as I am when i'm out. I don't see the point in putting on fronts. Although I do have to tame my sarcasm a lot more with those that don't know me to well, as you don't get to see the facial expressions that go with it. But when you get to know people, you can tell what kind of mood they are in by the way they type, so I know how far to take things.

From those that i've met both here and from another site, everyone has been like they were online, and I would think they would say the same about me, apart from the fact my language is a bit more colourful.

I absolutely consider my friends at Buffy-Boards real friends. So much so that I made a huge effort to go and visit when a group of them got together (but it didn't work out). I still have my ticket so they can't escape me!!! Muahahaha! 😀

And there's others I talk to that I really want to meet, and hope too, in the near future!

I wish you could have made it too hon! We could have created more havoc 😀

See before I met you I was very intimidated as you have the reputation of being "Most Feared Mod" as per the Angelus award you received not too long after I joined up. Then after I met you, I realized that you were scary in another sense of the word...in that you have many of the same warped ideas and thoughts that I do 😛

Oh and Jenny...are you planning on using your ticket anytime soon? 😀

lol I don't know where that reputation came from, i'm not a nasty person by nature. But as you are now witness to, a day out with me is no ordinary day, many strange things happen. Weirdness and strange people are drawn to me or me to them....thats my side of it, contest and I will tell everyone how much of a girly screamer you are during a certain 5 minutes 😉

LOL...that didn't come out right...

I can definitely attest to the fact that a day with Faith is a day to be filled with adventure.

Again with the like-mindedness! I nearly spit my coffee onto the screen from the "girly screamer" comment! Thank God I know what she meant ;)

For once my mind was clean, and even saying that another two were involved makes it worse. :yikes: So the only way to clear it up is by the words 'Madame Tussauds Chamber of Horrors'

Naturally, considering the fact that I was one of the people ya'll are talking about that met up, I consider a chunk of the people here at this board to be my "real" friends. Some of you know me well enough to know when I'm sick just from the way I'm posting (Buffy Summers, Cordelia-that was scary guys 😉) so, you MUST be true friends.

Others get the classification of "online" friends as convos usually stay within certain limits and I don't really have enough time to get closer to more members as I would like to. It would be nice to be able to talk to all of you with the depth of true friendship, but it's usually time restraints that keep my pm's few and far between 🙁 Darn outside world 🙁 LOL

Of course, there'd be people I'd love to meet on this board, just because you guys are so awsome. How can you really fake being so genuine? It may be possible, but you have to be a pretty good actor. I know, some people MAY be sitting at their desks, pretending to be a 20 year old Mew Yorker, when really its a 60 year old man who eats twinkies at his desk, lives in his mothers house, and wants to meet up with innocent and naive little girls. *sigh* its a sick world when you can't trust anyone.

I wouldn't consider you all real friends. Just because real and online are different. But it is strange that I can talk to y'all about things I couldn't with my friends outside of the box...I never told anyone else about my cutting habit...I eflt safe. probably because of teh fact I don't know you. *sigh* my brain hurts. I'm going to bed. Nighty night... ::dead::

If any of y'all live down in Canada, or Ontario...I'd be happy to meet. But of course, there is the whole 60 year old twinkie munching petafile thing to worry about...
