Author's notes: a short sweet dawn/spike friendship fic set sometime in season 7 i alway hated that the writers never mended the rift between these two great charactors.

Dawn walked down the basement stairs she saw spike sitting on the camp bed laid out for him. She went down the rest of the stairs standing where spike would see her. They both looked at each other saying nothing dawn was first to break the silence.
"so you have a soul now? you gonna start being all broody like angel?"
Spike snorted "hardly rather stake myself then end up like my poofter of a grandsire"
Dawn smiled a little "good to see you haven't lost your spirit"
Spike shrugged "takes a lot to break me"
Dawn nodded "i talked to buffy she told me everything what she did how you took it all. I guess i can understand a little more why you tried to rape her now i know everything"
Spike looked at her "that right?"
Dawn nodded "yeah i don't just blame you anymore spike i blame the both of you you were both share responsibility for what happened between you last year"
Spike raised an eyebrow but stayed silent
"i missed you while you were gone spike we both did i just wish we could be how we were before i mean you were like my best friend and my big brother all rolled in to one"
Spike looked at her "you were like a little sis to me too and for the record your not the only one that misses it"
Dawn nibbled her bottom lip thenthen asked the question that had been on her mind ever since he had returned "do you think we can ever be like that again?"
Spike tilted his head sideways "i hope we could" he sighed "but i guess only time will tell"
Dawn stood still looking at him for just a moment before sayaing "guess that's always the way" she went over and sat next to spike they sat in comfortable silence the same thought running through there minds.
*only time will tell well then maybe i can lessen that time a little*
