Opinions and the like on Joss

Ok, so I'm looking at Joss and the fan base that surrounds him for my university dissertation. I'm going to be looking at how the fans see him as a writer, how the critics see him as a writer, and how he and the other writers on the Buffy/Angel/Firefly writing staff see him. At the moment, I'm writing the chapter on the fan base, and I just wondered if I could get some views on how you see him as a writer and the creator of the marvellous show we're all fans of. I'd appriciate any feedback at all, it would been of tremendous help.

I think he is brilliant. When you look at his work, whether it be on Buffy, Firefly, Angel, Toy Story, or wherever, one thing comes across loud and clear and that he writes characters so beautifully. All his characters are real, flawed people and they speak the way real people speak to each other. (Well, not including those who came from demon dimensions! LOL) He is able to speak volumes with just a few lines of dialogue and that is why I think he is incredible. 🙂 I know he is well respected within the whole acting community, and not just by people who've worked with him. Joss rocks my socks. 😀

I think sometimes Joss is ahead of the curve so to speak. When he made Buffy the Vampire Slayer and took a campy look at horror, I don't think it fared so well initially (though does have 'cult' standings now.)

Then came the scream movies, and our Buffy TV show. Instant hits. Look at Firefly, again maybe ahead of it's time? he's always true to his vision and thats why I believe jaw dropper or rating flopper, he's an impression on culture, not just a 'here and now' fad writer.

One things for sure, regardless of theme, he writes good characters and story-lines. All the stuff he does is just great human story telling, sometimes it might have an unusual backdrop (Toy chest, graveyards, or space ships) but somehow they always seem able to be related to things you can appreciate.

I've enjoyed him as a writer to the point I've researched him alittle to find out what else is out there by him. What I've found is from a trench writer in Roseanne to his marvel comic stint, from print to screen, he's just a great writer with a real gift of relating to the audience.

He just tells great stories worth hearing, and like the best stories, ones you like to revisit again and again.
