Other than Buffyverse - What Vampire related verse do you like?

Completely agree, I thought the first season of Legacies was pretty much s1 of Buffy updated (with a pinch of Potter). I was surprised it wasnt a bigger deal with a formula like that. They had their own Dark Willow and everything. I havent rewatched it yet though, I struggled with the last 2 seasons.

TVD is almost exactly Twilight in the first few episodes too. I like it for the pretty rollarcoaster that it is. Its a bit like bad sex though, wondering why you were so hyped for it once its over.

There WAS. It was originally supposed to be released in 2022, with Mahershala Ali (Cottonmouth in Luke Cage) as Blade. Disney pushed it back several times, and removed it from their schedule entirely in 2024. At present it appears to be dead, since they have no director, no acceptable finished script, and no one appears to be trying to deal with either of those things at present.

I love Mahershala. He's such a good actor.
 
I forgot about 'What We Do In The Shadows', both the film and the (superior) TV show; its a fantastic take on vampires as basically pitiable immortal weirdos who are completely out of step with the modern world.
Matt Berry's Laszlo shouting 'Bat!' before turning into a bat will never not be funny.

I have a suspicion that it appeals to a different audience than the rest of the setting, so may not draw in those who were interested in the other two series, and those outside the existing fan base who might be interested didn't necessarily know about it or know that it was different from the other two series.
 
I loved Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles long ago, but re-reading a couple recently, I found that they had become a bit dated.

I liked True Blood, though the longer it went, the more melodramatic it became. I also liked The Strain.

I don't think anyone's mentioned What We Do in the Shadows, which I'm catching up on now.

I mean, Disney hasn't officially said it is dead. But there's no indication anyone is working on it at present.

And agreed. I really enjoy his work!
 
I cannot wait until I read Salem's Lot I would like to know who told to most truth, the James Mason version, the second one or the Rob Lowe version, I hope the Rob Lowe version was best.. Twilight would be good to find out if the Werewolves or the vampires were the biggest liars.
 
I have tried many times to read the book DRACULA but I do find it so hard going, the quality of the writing is I find, so very poor. Was the Irishman who wrote it drunk as the 'lord' when he was wrote it?

Unfortunately the monster of the week structure wasn’t popular, people wanted a soap opera with vampires.

A long time ago, I read Dracula and Frankenstein at the same time. I thought that if you believed Roman Catholic mythology, it was a very gripping book due to the prospect of being eternally damned for something you didn't understand whereas Frankenstein did not seem as exciting and the end felt rushed.

there are not many religions I bother with, that being due to my first religion being Quaker then after seven years when my dad left home my chosen religion became the non religious aspect of witchcraft. I believe in the male and the female being important for the benefit of the human race, while many religions do not. As you mentioned the Roman Catholics they are happy to have folk think the male is superior, although even with my dislike of the Roman Catholic religion I'd hesitate at referring it as being mythology. Because I know it is true if somewhat ludicrous at times.

I have come across claims that he actually had syphilis, and that he used vampirism as a metaphor for that disease.

@November, them Quakers were not a pious bunch, should a vampire wish to be present at a meeting in a Quakers Meeting House I see no reason why one should not be allowed a seat. I would have offered the seat next to me, especially if she appeared to be like Darla.

I don't watch or read a lot of vampire-related media, although that probably needs to change. The most recent thing I watched about vampires was Sinners, which was absolutely incredibly. And I'm about to do a reread of Dracula for a school assignment; I love Dracula, although it's all of the non-vampire characters who are most interesting to me.

Oh, and I suppose I'll recommend my favorite Dracula adaption: Dracula: The Danse Macabre by Gabriel Urbina. It's an audio drama that you can find anywhere you listen to podcasts. It's pretty short and starts as a faithful adaption but then has a big twist. I love it to pieces and should probably relisten to it soon.
 
I’m ALMOST as passionate about The Vampire Diaries as I am about Buffy. Almost. Also I did enjoy My Babysitter’s a Vampire. More intended for young viewers, but I had to watch it with my niece and I grew to really like it. Sort of like watching Disney stuff as an adult. It’s still got a charm to it.
 
I'm personally huge on Vampire: The Masquerade, and I think more people need to familiarise themselves with it. I fell in love with it at age sixteen, the way many a young transsexual in a ttrpg space may. Clan Tzimisce are interesting enough that I've considered reading the Necroscope novels, which I've heard are the inspiration for their particular fleshcrafting.
The AMC Interview with the Vampire / The Vampire Lestat has also much enthralled me! I quite like the portrayal(s) of Claudia there.
I also personally quite like Carmilla and Dracula. Classics are classic for a reason.

I also learned of and played V: TM at age 16 in late 98/early 99. We mostly used rock/paper/scissors instead of dice (occasionally used playing cards) and it was more of a LARP rather than TT. I played off and on into early 2000s, and read novels.

Oh, I read the Necroscope novels as a teen! I preferred the first novel to the later ones.
I don't know how many have seen it but Forever Knight! I stumbled on it in the early 2000s and my parents both used to watch it when it was on air lol I wrote so much cringe fanfiction for it.

I have only ever managed to catch bits and pieces of Forever Knight.
I enjoy a lot of the media already mentioned here, but I haven’t seen The Lost Boys mentioned yet! I’ve not seen any of the sequel films, but I really enjoy the original. It definitely takes liberties with its vampire lore, but it’s a super fun watch. There’s even set to be a Broadway musical version coming out in 2026! I’m excited to see/hear how that turns out.

As for media already mentioned, I have to say that Sinners is genuinely one of the best movies ever made. Deserved every one of those 16 Oscars. I will always love the novel Dracula, of course. I especially like the audio drama production of it, Re: Dracula. It was inspired by the Dracula Daily newsletter, which is a read-through of Dracula in chronological order. You read each letter/journal entry/etc. on its date. Re: Dracula goes in the same order, but it releases as a podcast. Truly incredible voice acting and audio editing. I’ve been really enjoying AMC's Interview With the Vampire/The Vampire Lestat, but I don’t care to read the original novels. I don’t think I would enjoy the prose style, and as several have said, parts of them seem to have aged poorly. What We Do in the Shadows is fun! I don’t always go for comedy series, but I liked that one. There’s a lot of vampire media I haven’t seen… but that means it’ll be a long while before I run out! :]
 
I love The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. I haven't watched Legacies 'cause I need to finish The Originals, but I really loved the characters and lore. 🙂

I used to love Twilight but I haven't watched the movies or read the books in a long time...
