Out of character

I think Anya in season 7 was out of character when she was dealing with Buffy. Up until season 6 her and Buffy had been somewhat close (except for Buffy almost killing her). Buffy checks up on Anya to make sure she's ok, even refering to her as a friend and Anya seems touched by the gesture. Yet in season 7 Anya is almost always leading the potential's when they gang up on Buffy. Its just a very quick change from how she was previously.
 
Angel in Chosen. His best friend just fell into a coma probably forever and he just gave up his son never to see him again but he goes off to sunnydale and acts like he has no cares in the world. Like all he needs is to kiss Buffy and he's all smiley and happy and just completely out of character it makes me sick.
 
When Angel sent away Connor from his home, knowing that the boy has nowhere to go, was OOC. Okay, the boy deserves a lesson, but send him away, no 🙂

  • I always thought Angel falling for Cordelia was OOC.
  • Buffy in season 6 was OOC

Omg, I was just thinking this the other day! Season 4 was a horrible time for Angel...why the eff was he so happy? I mean....he hadn't seen Buffy in years.
 
The entire Cangel relationship was out of character to me. Actually, despite how much I love AtS I found a lot of their behaviour OOC as opposed to character growth.

Almost every ship in AtS was OOC to me, especially Cangel & Conndelia(although it wasn't really her), the only 100% IC ship being Groodelia.

You know, I never really thought about this until now, but you're right it does seem pretty glaring. I chock it all up to the good writing in Season 3-4 that caused me, and probably others, to miss this.


Although I really don't like S5-7 perhaps the OOC Buffy issues people are having can be explained by the fact Buffy goes from being an only child in season 1-5 to having a sister in S5. This probably explains away a lot, nevertheless I preferred only child Buffy to Buffy- 'the big sister'.

There is no way Angel would be all cheerful and trying to hook up with Buffy. Not when he just gave up his son, took control of an evil law firm, and had his best friend whom he was in love with fall into a coma.

His scenes with Buffy and cookie dough were sickening for me to watch.
 
Oh and continuing the Angel OOC thing - Why is it that he never told the gang that Cordelia was in a coma? They were friends with Cordelia. Xander was her boyfriend for a long time. Doesn't seem to make sense to me. Not to mention the fact that Angel had a son with Darla. Why weren't they in contact? You would at least think a few phone calls every now and then to update each other...

Its not like they bothered to call and tell him that The First Evil was back. Didn't he have to find out from Wolfram & Hart? Wolfram & Hart saved the world. Heh.

Oh no I completely agree, my problem with this is both ways. I don't understand why they didn't team up more often. I understand why they didn't do so for the reasons that they have stated in the past such as being on different networks and not wanting either show to lose focus from the main characters but in reality it just wouldn't make sense for Buffy to NOT pick up the phone and call Angel when her sister was about to be murdered. There were so many times when there was just to much at stake.

The other one that always pisses me off is that Giles left Sunnydale and became... A bit of a prat. So very, very out of character. The whole 'she needs to learn to stand on her own two feet' thing is absolute rubbish. What kind of person would abandon a close friend that had just been cleared of a 3 month battle against cancer or been cleared of a previously though terminal illness let alone someone that had god damn DIED.

Speaking of which, and I know this is going slightly off topic, but... Why didn't anyone send Buffy to send a professional? Surely Giles or Wesley would have known someone that knew what was going in their world that had studied it that she could talk to? Why didn't Buffy or Dawn ever have to see people after their mother died? Why didn't Buffy ever ask Dawn to speak to a professional about her self harm or addiction to stealing?

Hell, when the Fang Gang requested help to stop Angelus, Willow kept it from Buffy. Lack of communication between the two groups is one thing, but lack of communication in the Scoobies at this point is just stupid.When a major threat like Angelus is on the loose you don't just not tell anybody, Willow.

Precisely. There were so many instances of this once AtS started. I didn't notice so much for a long time because I only started watching AtS recently but the more I think about it the more it pisses me right off.

Angel in Angel Season 2 onwards. He became very cheerful and triggerhappy, not to mention falling in love with CORDELIA. He just seemed not quite the same character.
What happened to the brooding, serious and buisnesslike Angel who was in love with nobody except Buffy that formed on Buffy Seasons 1-3 and Angel Season 1?
