Out of Mind, Out of Sight
Aired: May 19, 1997
Writers: Joss Whedon (story)
Ashley Gable
Thomas A. Swyden (teleplay)
Director: Reza Badiyi
Trivia:
- The final scene is of Marcy reading a textbook chapter titled "Assassination and Infiltration" with a subtitle referring to targeting the leader of a cult as an example. However, the actual text begins with the date August 2, 19XX and this is followed by the lyrics of The Beatles song, "Happiness is a Warm Gun" only they are written as prose, with the line "Happiness is a warm gun" changed to "Joy is a hot revolver".
Goofs:
- At the end, when Marcie is being walked down the hallway to her new class, the boom mic and pole are visible at the top of the frame when they reach the corner.
- If Marcie injected Cordelia with something to numb her entire face, she should not be able to make any real expressions, or talk as well as she does.
Best quotes:
- Cordelia: People who think their problems are so huge craze me. Like this time I sort of ran over this girl on her bike. It was the most traumatizing event of my life, and she's trying to make it about her leg! Like my pain meant nothing!
- Angel: Looking in the mirror every day and seeing nothing there. It's an overrated pleasure.
- Snyder: There are no dead students here. This week.
- Xander: What, so there's homework now? When did that happen?
- Giles: A vampire in love with a Slayer! It's rather poetic!
Soundtrack:
- "Siciliano" - Johann Sebastian Bach
References:
- "My eyes are hazel, Helen Keller." Helen Adams Keller (1880-1968) lost both her hearing and her sight to a fever when she was two. With the help of a remarkable teacher named Anne Sullivan, she learned to communicate and even speak, graduated from Radcliffe College with honors in 1904, and went on to be a lecturer and activist, crusading for women's rights and the rights of the disabled. A famous movie about her and Anne Sullivan, called The Miracle Worker, was released in 1962, starring Patty Duke as Helen Keller.
Notes:
- Giles and Angel meet for the first time in this episode.
- The Tiberius Manifesto and the Pergamum Codex are among the more important volumes of Slayer-related lore which have been or are believed to be lost, though Angel is able to find the Codex and give it to Giles.
