This doesn't apply to viewers in Europe or Australia, since your DVD sets are more complete.

If some of you North American viewers never saw the show on television, either when it originally aired on The WB or later in reruns, basically if you've only seen it on DVD, then you might not be aware that there is an entire sequence missing from the opening of this episode:

Thanks to the fact that the "Previously on Angel" recap segments were cut off the North American (Region 1) DVDs, some episodes suffered because too much was cut beyond the recaps.

This episode fared the worst:

The recap ended with Cordelia getting sucked into the portal and off to Pylea, but it actually led directly into the episode's opening, rather than there being a fade out / cut.

The DVD version of this episode opens with Cordelia wandering around, calling out the other's names before the hell beast finds her. What you don't see is that when the recap showed Cordelia being sucked into the portal, it cuts back to Angel, Wesley and Lorne back at Caritas, where they realize she's not there with them so they frantically start looking for her, Angel looking under tables and so on. Wesley says "She's gone...Cordy's been sucked into the portal she's in the Host's dimension now!"

Angel then says to Lorne (the Host) "Where's Cordelia?"

It then closes in on Lorne, looking nervous and taking big gulps, THEN it cuts to the scene you see opening the episode on DVD of Cordelia wandering around.

If you never saw this episode originally or on TV, you never would have known this whole scene was missing!

Dude! that freaking sucks!!!! =/
Thanks for telling us!

But I do know that alot of scenes that were cut from TV because of length are on the DVD's. So, that's a plus. 🙂

What annoys me about the DVD sets is that they're too spoilery, with the menu pictures and even with the box covers.

For example, when you key up the DVD menu to the "All the Way" episode, you see Dawn standing next to Justin, with Justin in vamp face. The one for "As You Were" shows Riley, etc. The box cover for season 6 shows Dark Willow... the major twist of the season that doesn't happen until nearly the end.

It's not a problem for people already familiar with the series. But I've been re-watching the series with my mother and father (who haven't seen it before), and I find myself going and standing in front of the TV screen to block the menu when I start up an episode, so they don't get spoiled.

LOL! I did the same with my mom! Everytime I would go put in another disc, I would be like "Close your eyes, mom!" She got really tired of it. lol
I am currently preparing this sequence, with teaser and opening credits for YouTube.

NL, I think you should take it on as your mission to post all of the missing scenes from the Angel DVDs onto YouTube. I completely support you in that! I won't help you, but I support you! 😉

Anyway, I guess I need to start recording some episodes airing on TNT to compare them to the DVDs (well, I'm watching Angel on Netflix, so I'm assuming it's the American DVDs I'm watching). Actually, I just realized that you can watch complete episodes on the TNT website.

Yay for supportiness! :D
Once YouTube comes back on (I was about to upload the sequence and it's in a maintenance mode right now) I'll be putting it up.

It will be the full "Previously on Angel" recap, missing scene and teaser leading up to and including the opening credit sequence. It's about 3 and a half minutes total. I 'pitch corrected' the audio, since the source of the video was the UK DVD.

Okay...Youtube is a no-go. Content restrictions hit the video twice, the second time being when I removed the opening credit sequence.

So this is a bit shorter with the credits gone, and it's on a different video / file site:

If you were to download the sequence, it will be in its correct aspect ratio, and won't be stretched vertically as it looks when playing it off the site.

That was GREAT thanks for the upload! :D
Well, I just checked my disc set, and that sequence is there in its entirety. Could it just be that you're particular set is somehow messed up? Or if yours is one of the new thin sets? I got mine back when it was first released.

I never had this problem, but it makes me think about censorship on television!
When I was watching Buffy on a Dutch channel, the episodes were complete, but some scenes were missing when I finally could watch them on a french-speaking channel: the suicide of the potential (the one who hanged herself...Chloe?), when Buffy discovers her body, hot scenes in Touched and, big scandal, Anya's death wasn't shown. Well it was, but you just see her falling, you don't see the knife that goes trough her.

It's just so annoying when a show isn't shown entirely for some reasons!

Is yours an American (Region 1) release?

No American releases of Buffy or Angel have the recap segments, except for Angel season 5.

All of my sets were purchased day and date when they originally came out in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

I don't know what region they are. I bought them all from Amazon, so I guess that they could have come from somewhere else, assuming that they would play on my DVD.

Well mines are complete and I bought them off Amazon too..i would guess its from US but I could be wrong
You know, I remembered that there was something "off" about the episode when I watched my DVD's but I couldn't quite remember what it was. Thanks for filling in the gap! 🙂

There's a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Angel-Complete-David-Boreanaz/dp/B003YF9Q08?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1281161252&sr=1-1"]new complete-series Angel DVD set out today.[/ame]

If anyone buys it, I hope they will report whether it has the "previously on..." and missing scenes restored.

There will be absolutely no chance of that, I guarantee it.

That will be nothing more than a simple re-packaging of the existing discs.

FOX is the undisputed king of this re-package, re-selling practice.

I'll put up the missing / ruined joke from the opening of "That Old Gang of Mine" that I mentioned in that thread as well.

That was fast. Do they have some kind of automatic detection system now, or do they review every single upload?

Anyway, thanks for the clip. I downloaded it in case it gets yoinked.

As I understand it, it is an automatic detection system.

Few months ago I tried uploading some custom videos and they were all hit with the same thing before the videos were finished processing - so they weren't even ready to be watched by anyone when they were blocked.

I read an article somewhere that movies, TV shows and even music is scanned by companies for things that identify them as being owned by companies, and when something is uploaded it's automatically 'flagged' as being copywrited by the filters they use.

I think the reason fan videos don't get blocked is because they're usually made up of so many scenes and they're tweaked with video effects that they don't match the content filters as easily.

I figure the 4shared site is good for being able to watch the video on the site, and keep it if you want.

Come to think of it, this same thing happened with my "Highlander" disc set, though with just the opposite results. The discs contained the European versions of the episodes, which had footage not shown on television in the US, I assume so that there would be more room for commercial breaks here. Gotta sell that toothpaste!
