Alright, so I thought of this idea. What if in a sentence or two we named one thing we liked in each season overall, and one thing we didn't like. Some of you might not understand what i'm talking about, so here is mine as an example.

Buffy

- Season 1

I liked the casual atmosphere, the whole season was mostly filler episodes except 1-2-5-7-12, but most of them were really fun. It wasn't anything serious and got you to warm to the characters.

I didn't like the whole thing with Angel/Buffy in that season, and that whole story arc with the little kid(what the hell was his use anyway?).

- Season 2

This whole season had a very high school vibe to it, which I loved. And obviously... ANGELUS!!!!!

Even though I loved the ending of that season and it made me weep like so many others, I didn't like the Bangel relationship much. As i've said previously, Angel was boring to me until he got his own series.

- Season 3

I absolutely loved the storyline with the Mayor and Faith. This and the number of GREAT episodes and characterization made this season for me, my second fav in the series.

There's not much that I disliked in that season, but since I have to name one overall thing... I'll have to go with THE LACK OF SPIKE! I really missed him from last season.

- Season 4

I loved the funny vibe of that season. It had a lot of hilarious episodes, and I actually liked Riley unlike many peoples. Also Spike's return added to unemployed Giles caused lots of great moments.

Even though I liked Riley, I didn't like the Initiative idea. The whole commando felt cliche to me, and I expected a better main story arc after the awesomeness of the Mayor + Faith.

- Season 5

This is my fav season, so obviously there's a lot I liked. But overall it was the real life related drama and the VERY good character development that made me love it.

I disliked Glory(except her minions lol), and the whole thing with Ben, bleh! Good thing that story arc didn't bring down the whole season.

- Season 6

Again the character development was what I liked in that season too. Even though I wasn't a big fan of the whole Buffy/Spike sexcapade, it actually made sense to me with everything that was going on.

I didn't like the Trio, it was lame and outside of killing Tara and causing Willow to go crazy, it wouldn't have made a difference for them not to be there.

- Season 7

This is my least favorite season, but the thing I liked about it(and that could have been even better, as first showed with The First turning into every previous villain in the first episode) was how it was kind of a culmination of the whole Slayer storyline, and that it was of epic proportion(as much as it can be on a tv show). If only the First had been interesting...

I HATED the Potentials, and the fact very important characters like Xander, Willow and Giles had their roles turned down a lot. Scooby gang where did you go? 🙁

Angel

- Season 1

I loved the Angel/Doyle/Cordy team in the first part of the season(not that Wes wasn't a good replacement). The 'evil lawyers' idea was also cool and unexpected for me.

I didn't like the fact there was too many one shot episodes. Not much of a story arc. I don't know why but every time I finish watching AtS, this is always the season I don't have much to say about. It's not bad, just that it didn't get me interested as much.

- Season 2

Again, I loved the whole team/family part. The characters in AtS have always been very engaging. This is when I really started to like Cordy. Also... LORNE! I loved the story arc at the end.

I know a lot of peoples liked it but I didn't get into the whole Darla storyline. When I first watched AtS, I expected something very special to come out of that box, but I was like 'oh that vamp girl from the first season of Buff, hmm k'. That's the thing I didn't like from that season.

- Season 3

I liked the 'Dad' part which showed new sides of Angel. Also Fred was a great character addition and the last part of the season is one of my favorite strech of episodes in either series.

I didn't like Holtz. He was boring. So was Sahjhan. Better villains please!

- Season 4

This was my favorite Angel season(dodge bullets!). When I watched it, it was like four episodes a day at time. The whole thing was exciting, the Beast, Faith, evil Cordy, Angelus(YAY!). There was so many awesome scenes! I particulary loved the whole atmosphere when they go to W&H and everyone is dead.

The Jasmine part was 'ok' for me, but Connor did get annoying and after all these kick ass episodes, I think the ending was lacking. Oh and one of the things that always pissed me off... the way the Beast dies. I was like 'WOW... lame way to get rid of a badass like that'.

- Season 5

Angel running W&H, lol! Who would have expected that in the first seasons?? This was a great idea, and adding Spike was AWESOME! The ending was also GREAT, but...(see below)

I didn't like how the storyline was rushed at the end with that freaking lame excuse for villains(see Circle of the Black Thorn). I'll never forgive Joss for not showing us the Senior Partners after these years of waiting! 🙁 And last but not least... the ending was both great and HORRIBLE at the same time. It's hard to explain but I was both applauding and cursing after the last scene. We didn't get to see the fight!

So there you go, I hope everyone got what I was talking about. Your turn!

BtVS Season One

I love this season. We get introduced to all of the characters and I just love the innocence of it all. If you watch S1 and then S7 it's amazing how they've all grown. Some for better, some for... less better but still, lol. It sucks it's so underrated, but I think that's because of it only being half a season. Had we got another 12 episodes with it, it'd be up higher on my list.

BtVS Season Two

My FAVORITE season. The introduction of Spike and Drusilla was just perfect. School Hard is one of my favorite episodes. When She Was Bad has a S1 feel to me, but nonetheless it's awesome. Then, we have the awesome Angelus arc, which I think was executed the in the best way. DB definitely stood up to the plate with his acting, and the differences between Angel and Angelus were just... wow. The filler episodes are eh. Not a big fan of Ted, Bad Eggs, Go Fish, etc. But I love all of the episodes of Buffy regardless. Can't name one I hate, since there's always a scene, line, moment, etc. that makes an episode for me 😛 Both episodes of Becoming are just amazing from start to finish. Perfect episodes to end an amazing season.

BtVS Season Three

You can feel it shift into a new Season and I think that's okay. The opener is really nice, I love the episode Anne. The second episode isn't my favorite, but getting to third, we get FAITH! Love her introduction, love The Mayor. I love The Wish and Doppelgangland. I think this Season definitely broke out of the 'most of these fillers are boring' shell. I love watching The Wish/Doppelgangland for many reasons, but especially for Anya considering I never would have that she'd become who she did. The ending is great, it's sad to see Cordy and Angel go, but we get Spike and Anya who really make the next Season humorous.

Angel Season One

On the lesser side, I think. There's a lot of boring episodes and unlike Buffy, it's harder to get going a rewatch. City Of is great though, as is the season finale. The Faith/Buffy episodes are great too, and of course, we have Doyle going out in Hero which sets some of the premise for the rest of the show.

BtVS Season Four

Very comedic season. Lame villain, lame Initiative, lame Riley. But we get Spike! He's just hi-lar-ious in this Season. We got some really amazing episodes too like Hush and Restless. Faith's return is nice, as well as Angel's. Sad to see Oz go, but Tara's a nice addition. A step down from the two previous seasons, but hey, I love all of Buffy!

Angel Season Two

Very dark, and I'm not a fan. The last half of this season is just great though. I'm totally in love with 'epiphanied' Angel. He definitely gets less broody once he realizes the wrong he'd done during the Darla thing. The Pylea episodes are also entertaining, and the season finale is awesome too.

BtVS Season Five

The introduction of Dawn. Ugh. Plug your hears, lol. Aside from her, a nice season. Spike goes from one of the best characters to well less than that, but I still love him anyway. Just wish the whole 'obsessed with Buffy, getting Warren to make a sexbot' thing didn't happen. The Body is an outstanding episode. And, The Gift could easily be the best episode of Buffy ever. Not my favorite, but a flawless ending for Buffy herself.

Angel Season Three

The opener is great, it's nice seeing Angel work through his grief. This episode is just chock full of surprises. Darla, Connor, Holtz. I HATE Holtz so it's not on my side of the 'yay' factor. But, it's not a bad season. Wesley goes dark, and hey, his character development is astounding! We get into full on Cangel mode here though, which I can't say I'm happy about. The ending starts the beginning of Jasmine, which I can say is NOT a good thing.

BtVS Season Six

Here it comes. The Love/Hate season. I feel like half of us hate it, the other half love it and there is no in between. We got some really awesome episodes and this season takes angst to a whole new level. Not a Spuffy, so not a fan of their relationship here. The Dark Willow arc is just awesome and very entertaining for me. Grave has one of the best friendship moments in the entire show.

Angel Season Four

Take away Jasmine and Connelia, and this season is fantastic! Angelus is always fun, as is Faith. Willow's appearance makes for a great episode, and Lilah ending the season just makes it that much better! We lose Cordy next season, but she gets a flawless episode to make up for it.

BtVS Season Seven

This season really veers away from focus on the core five, which is depressing because it's our series finale. The Potentials make this season chaotic, as I like to call it. But, it's not a horrible season. The ending is the best of the season, IMO, but I'm sad to see Sunnydale and the series itself go.

Angel Season Five

My favorite season. There's only two episodes I don't like; The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco and Why We Fight, but the rest; I absolutely love it. Spike is a great addition and we have SO many wonderful episodes like You're Welcome, A Hole In The World, Smile Time, etc. Not Fade Away is the BEST ending to Angel, although I'm disappointed we never saw the Senior Partners. Stupid WB for canceling Angel! The 'Let's go to work' line allows Angel to come full circle, even if the ending itself was a bit rushed. Angel came to L.A to fight and they all went out that way. I say that's pretty good to me.

What a nice thread! So this is my analysis...

Buffy the Vampire slayer

Season 1
An innocent season, brings back the memories from the 90's series, reminds me of highschool. There are only 12 episodes but are enough to introduce us the basic elements of the show: The Scooby Gang , the Slayer's struggle to be a normal girl and the bangel love!:biggrin3: My favourite episodes are Angel, Nightmares and The Prophecy Girl.

Season 2
My favourite and possibly the best season in my opinion. When
everything is perfect and Buffy realises she had found true love BANG!!! Angelus is here! Very interesting storyline, Angelus is the sadistic, evil, passionate villain and Dru and Spike make a great evil couple!
This season's episodes I get to rewatch more often! Innocence, Surprise, I only have eyes for you, Passion, Becoming pt2, Halloween. Great episodes really.

Season 3
Season 3 and season 2 always fight for the first place in my heart!
So Angel is back(what more can I ask?), Faith is here, Buffy tries to be the normal school girl and struggles with her emotions. This season also has some of the greatest episodes of the show: The Prom, Revelations, Lovers Walk, Amends(I love that!), Graduation Day pt1 and pt2, The Wish, Doppelgangland,Enemies, Helpless.
I like the fact that they show how Buffy is now turning to an adult: she no longer needs a Watcher(at least officially), she tries to go academic, she has to separate herself for the love of her life. Also I love Faith's sad story and I admire the relationship she has with the Mayor. He is evil but possibly the best father she could have.

season 4
The "freshman" season. It is so nice and funny to watch Buffy in college. Also season 4 sometimes seems to me a way to get to season 5, cause it doesn't have a real big Bad.
It also has great episodes: Hush, Pangs, The Yoko Factor, The This Year's girl/Who are you arc, Primeval and Restless.
Although I don't like Riley, I admit it's possibly one of the healthiest relationships Buffy has had and will have! At least for now...And also Spike!!! I like his evil awesomeness and humour!

Season 5
Well...Dawn is here. I don't think I ever really liked her, but Buffy's struggle to protect her sister is admirable and amazing. The Body is probably one of the most realistic episodes I have ever seen on tv...no music, just emotions, Buffy's face expressions and feelings coming out in the surface.
Spike disappoints me in this season. No evil awesomeness. The sexbot is hilarious but a very gross moment for Spike!
Also, for me the end of Buffy could be with The Gift. The greatest end she could have. Completed as a hero, as the Slayer, as a sister.
In this season, Buffy struggles with real life problems...a health problem her mom faces, dropping out of college for her sister. Also, getting to know her Slayer essence better.

Season 6
Ok don't hate me for this...for me it's not just the least favourite season, it's the worst season Buffy could ever have. It starts with a very depressed Buffy(which is understandable)and it continues with dark sex, a metaphor(magic=drugs...not the best they could do really), Buffy using Spike, Spike enjoying it and instead of helping Buffy pulling her deeper to her depression situation. Everyone, and I mean, everyone has problems. Xander and Anya IMO, could be the only ones with a happy ending and they had to spoil them too!!!:confused2: The only episode I like is Normal Again(if I were Buffy and my character was so badly treated by the writers I would stay in the asylum...).Also Grave, OMWF,Two to go. Dark Willow is not the best villain ever...and the Trio!!! OH MY GOD the trio!!! those nerds! After everything Buffy has faced...who could have thought?

Season 7
After season 6, everything seems better. I like Buffy's new job, Spike getting a soul is(normally) admirable and Dawn becomes likeable...until Empty Places. The Potentials story could be so much interesting if those girls weren't brats, rude girls with no respect for the real leader... The First is not the best villain they could use.Caleb proved to be more interesting.I miss the friendship of the Scoobies.
I liked the end of the tv series, Angel's return and Faith being there.

Angel

I happen to have watched Angel before Buffy, and I like both series. Angel is one of my favourite characters after all!

Season 1
Nice season. It has some of the best episodes of the show! City of is like a mini movie, Five by Five/Sanctuary is very good,Int he dark rocks, I will remember you is the epic bangel episode, To Shansu in L.A is a nice season finale and also bringing back an unexpected character. I liked Doyle, Wes and Cordy! Angel begins his own journey to heroism.

Season 2
In the first half we see a preview of what season 6 would be for Buffy's character. But with Angel is much more believeable IMO, because he's supposed to be the dark hero. I didn't like his separation from the AI team but after his epiphany, we get a very nice storyline. The season ends with the word which defines Angel's heart and destiny...Buffy.

Season 3
Compared to Buffy's season 6, I would watch this season with pleasure anytime! Angel struggles with his grief, Fred is a nice addition, the cangel story ruins the great frienship IMO. It feels forced cause season 6 has spuffy.
I think s3 has a great storyline, it is not black and white and I love David's performance there. As well as Alexis'. Holtz is an interesting villain,Darla has the best end a soulless vampire could have, Connor is torn and the season ends with despair. Angel in the water, Cordy as a higher being far away from him.

Season 4
Not the best season, but not the worst either. I don't really like Jasmine and Connelia just seems gross despite the "possesed" factor. I am glad Angelus returns and Faith comes to stop him. Cavalry, Salvage, Orpheus are some of the best episodes of the series. The ending is sad but the best choice a father could make for his son.

season 5
Angel and his team fighting the beast from its belly. No Cordy...so no real fun. Spike is a nice addition(he becomes a fun character again), we lose poor Fred just when she realises she loves Wes. A nice storyline, the last episodes confused me(angel evil?) and then we get a great season finale: Not Fade Away. It was cancelled before its time so we could get another great season. The end shows us what Angel stands for...fighting no matter what, even if there is no hope.
He began from the alley in "City of" and ended in an alley with an epic battle in front of him.

BtVS

S1 - great season getting to know all the characters, the beginnings of Bangel, establishing the witty dialogue that would become a staple of the series, and with a great finale.

S2 - The series comes into it's own, turning Angel evil was a masterstroke and provided for some great episodes and dramatic moments in the latter half of the season. IMO the best episode in the series in Becoming Pt 2.

S3 - The introduction of Faith, the hilarious yet sinister Mayor, the return of Angel, this season was the best season because it was consistently great, almost all the episodes were brilliantly written and conceived.

S4 - I loved them bringing back Spike and Anya for this season, they really helped lighten up this season, even though Adam was somewhat boring as a big bad. Briley has some good moments before it goes to hell in the next season.

S5 - Ups the ante by bringing in Glory the hellgod, and making Buffy have something to protect. Has some slow moments in the season but really speeds up toward the end. I'm not a huge fan of Spike in this season but Xanya has some good moments. Has a simply amazing ending.

S6 - Has its moments, I actually enjoyed the Spuffy sex in this season, until the AR which while horrible still got Spike to seek out his soul in the end. The whole drugs=magic was horribly done, and Dawn was pretty whiny this season. Dark Willow had some silly lines but was still an effective villain. The season ends on a 5 or so string of episodes that are all very high quality.

S7 - My least favorite season, which I was actually quite enjoying until they brought in the potentials which really just killed the season for me. Maybe if they just hadn't written them to be as annoying as possible, I wouldn't hate them so much. Killow is absolutely cringeworthy. I hate having to watch them kick Buffy out of the house but I'm glad she saves the day in the end. The ending while not as masterful as the Gift or Becoming was still a satisfactory series finale.

Angel

S1 - Had some good Buffy crossovers, but this season really suffered from not having an arc guiding the episodes. Bringing in Doyle only to have him go out in a blaze of glory was a masterstroke.

S2 - Resurrecting Darla was brilliant, though sometimes it's hard to see the motivations behind Dark Angel. Still an entertaining season.

S3 - Holtz was a good villain and pregnant Darla was another great idea, Connor of course ends up being horribly annoying and I absolutely detest Cangel so I'm not this season's biggest fan.

S4 - I actually really like the Angelus/Beast plotline, but as soon as Jasmine entered the fray the whole season went downhill. Connor continued to be annoying until his tragic end where you could finally feel sorry for him.

S5 - My favorite Angel season, Spike really livened up the series, and killing Fred to bring in Illyria was awesome. Not Fade Away is easily the best Angel season finale. There might have been a little too much focus on Spike in the beginning however. Connor ends up actually being not-annoying this season.

Season 1:
Very interesting, and the overall story arc is an extremely good series-opener. Really underrated imo. This season has the best one-shots (for the life of me, I can't think of what they're called, so I'll give them the comic book name). Maybe it's just because with these, I was never really missing the main arc. I was looking forward to the one-shots instead.
Big Bad-The Master is PHENOMENAL as a beginning-of-series Big Bad. He completely epitomizes what Buffy is fighting throughout the whole series.
Best Episodes- The Pack, Nightmares, Prophecy Girl
Season 2:
I believe Prophecy Girl was when the series truly began, but the Bangel storyline was the first actual heartbreak-then-overcome-then-triumph-but-still-really-sad part in the series. And this is what really makes Buffy... Buffy (And really, the same goes for Whedon in general). It doesn't make sense that we all latch on to these kind of things, but we do, and it's friggin gripping as hell. Also, I could go on and on about how great the Bangel arc is, but do I really need to? The one-shots are extremely poor imo. This is why I think BS2 is so overrated. The Bangel and Spike/Drusilla storyline are great, no doubt, but the one-shots just, to put it bluntly, suck. Bewitched... and I Only Have Eyes for You are the only ones I really enjoy. Ted is underrated, but not amazing.
Big Bad- Do I really need to say anything? All three were fantastic.
Best Episodes- School Hard, Halloween, Innocence (overrated though), Bewitched..., Passion, Becoming.
Season 3:
The Mayor is such a great villain. The way he acts is so un-villain-like. I love Faith and all, but she, in no way, makes the season what it is. However, I do love the slayer-vs-slayer and slayer-goes-bad themes. I also think Mr. Trick is pretty underrated. He's friggin awesome imo 🙂 Oh, and S3 really doesn't pick up until half-way through. One-Shots- See: BS2, but they're about 50% better.
Big Bad- Umm... Just look at the other S3 part I wrote. And also, the Bangel storyline is great, but not amazing. It opens wide up for a new series though.
Best Episodes- Band Candy, Helpless, The Zeppo, Doppelgandland, Earshot.

I'm really only writing this for my pleasure, so, if you're curious read away, but sorry if it's so long. And if anyone cares, tomorrow I'll write about BS4-7 and Angel. I'm tired as hell.

Lol it's not too long, nice post!
awesome thread idea. 🙂

Buffy

Season 1:
The innocence associated with season 1 is definitely what comes to mind first for me. Not that I don't love Buffy throughout the series, but she has such a sweetness and vulnerability to her in season 1 that just makes you fall in love with her as a character. The season as a whole isn't fantastic, but it did its job in getting us oriented with the characters and their world. Besides, the later seasons get so dramatic and so complex, that it's nice to look back and enjoy the simplicity of season 1. But yeah, I guess the lack of a really great story arc would be what I dislike about it. With that said, Prophecy Girl is definitely one of my favorite episodes of the entire series.
Season 2:
I love Spike and Drusilla, and of course Angelus!! They were definitely awesome as a big bad. I also liked Buffy and Angel's relationship, for the most part. But I did like the second half of the season better when Angel was Angelus and they were trying to kill each other, lol I felt really really bad for Buffy tho. 🙁 This season had a great ending to it too, imo. I find myself liking the high school years a lot, so I definitely like this season for it's typical high schoolness as well. Plus, there's the introduction of Cordy and Xander's relationship, which I was thoroughly amused by. I guess the only bad thing about the season was that there wasn't too many memorable stand alone eps.
Season 3:
My favorite!! 😀 This season has so many good things about it... The Mayor was a great big bad, plus the introduction of one of my favorite characters, Faith. Loved everything about her storyline! I kind of hated when she turned evil at first, but it was so shocking and just so good! Let's see, this season had a ton of great stand alone episodes, such as The Wish, Homecoming, Band Candy, Helpless, The Zeppo, Dopplegangland (who doesn't love vamp Willow?), The Prom, and Earshot to name some of my favorites. Plus, the two part finale was awesome!! Didn't *love* the way the Mayor looked as a snake, it was pretty fake looking, but I'm not really bothered too much by it. I guess that would be my bad thing about season 3, because I really love it all! Oh and Lover's Walk, while it was a great episode with Spike and whatnot, it was sad to see Willow/Oz and especially Cordy/Xander come to an end. 🙁 But again I enjoyed the high school aspect, senior year was fun. Plus, the very last scene where they're all looking at the burnt down school, and what Oz says about surviving high school, that was great. 🙂
Season 4
I have mixed feelings about season 4. There were some really great things about it, but I always find myself thinking about the things I didn't like as much. I really didn't like the Initiative and Adam as the Big Bad. I also didn't really care too much for Buffy's relationship with Riley. I didn't mind it at first, but I got pretty bored with it after a while. I think that there are a lot of good eps to make up for the crappy story arc and the boring romance tho, such as Something Blue, Hush, This Year's Girl, Who Are You, Restless, and others I can't think of right now. Also, I think season 4 is definitely one of, if not the funniest seasons. One other thing I didn't really love was gay Willow. Don't get me wrong, I love Tara as a character, but I really preferred Willow as straight and with Oz. 😛
Season 5:
Second favorite season. I *loved* Glory, I thought she was a great big bad, and I just liked that whole storyline a lot. Besides a great season arc tho, there were also a lot of good standalones, like the epicness that is The Body. I'll admit, that ep may be a teensy bit overrated, but dang not by much! It was completely riveting , and the use of silence was just astounding. You don't realize how much music is relied on to convey emotion, until it isn't there. But this ep shows how powerful and moving silence can be. And of course some great acting from Sarah. Anyway, I could go on and on about that ep but I won't. 😛 And of course the season finale was incredible!! I really just enjoyed the entire season as a whole. The only thing I didn't like about it was Dawn, she was annoying.
Season 6
I thought Season 6 was really good, and obviously had some really great eps but the thing that bugs me about this season is how empty Buffy seems to be throughout much of the season. I mean I wouldn't have expected her to be any other way given the circumstances, but I just hated to see her like that. 🙁 Let's see, Once More With Feeling is definitely one of my all time favorites of the series. I could go on for days about that, but I'm sure it's been discussed to death on this forum, so I'll just leave it at, "that episode was EPIC!" Tara's death was sad. 🙁 But I did love Dark Willow (totally made up for the lameness that was the trio), and of course Xander saving the world. 😉 Great season finale. The Spuffy stuff was kind of weird in this season, but I guess I can understand why it happened. Overall a very dark, but very great season. 🙂
Season 7:
I actually thought this was a really good final season. It started off kind of slow, but I actually didn't mind the Potentials as much as some people. Did not like Killow. Nuff said. I really liked Spuffy a lot in this season, compared to season 6. The episode "Touched" really struck me and stuck out to me. I don't guess it's a top favorite among a lot of people, but I basically love it for the Spuffy scenes (even though I'm not a hardcore Spuffy shipper). I love Buffy and Spike's conversation in the bedroom of that random house, and I absolutely melted when Buffy said, "Will you just hold me?" That was precious. And it was so nice to see Buffy vulnerable again, after she became so hard throughout the years. I actually got to a point where I was disliking Buffy at times, just for the way she acted and treated people. This episode reminded me why I love her. The little mini speech she gives to Spike, I don't remember exactly all she says, but she makes some comment that she never wanted to be so cut off from people, that she didn't choose to be that way. In that moment, it just really hit me that she's been carrying so much weight on her shoulders, and she's gone through more than anyone could even imagine. Any normal person would have been way worse off than she is, she's so strong. My love for her was restored, and I pretty much forgave her for every time she was ever cold or disconnected. It wasn't like she was being that way on purpose, she was just trying to deal with life and just get by. Anyway, sorry got a bit carried away on that one! Lol. Ok what I didn't like about this season was that I think it relied too heavily on the season arc. I know it was of epic proportions, and it was end of the world kind of stuff, but there just really weren't many good standalone eps which is important to me. Everything was tied so heavily into The First and the final battle. But nonetheless, the season definitely held my attention, and I thought the finale was a great sendoff for the show. 🙂

Wow I've spent way too much time on this that I should have been using to study for finals. Lol. So I'll have to come back and do the Angel seasons later.

No problem! Posting about Buffy beats studying any day. 😛

Thanks a lot for taking the time :P Nice post.
BUFFY
S1
Good show..moments of potential greatness
S2
Found its greatness..my favorite season
S3
Still greatness with arrogance cause it knows it..2nd fav
S4
Took a dive and was my least fav for awhile but not anymore after rewatches..have more respect for it now
S5
Wasn't feeling the character addition but had a solid season and the finale was powerful and best behind S2's
S6
Went the darker route which most hated but I didn't mind except the trio was a bit annoying
S7
My least favorite season now but still has great moments

(Overall love all the seasons but some are definitely weaker than others)

ANGEL
S1/S2
My favorite seasons along with S5...good crossovers in S1 and S2 dark Angel good tv
S3/S4
Shaky seasons..had good moments but definitely my least fav out of all..Connor..Jasmine..you know the rest
S5
Currently my fav season but didn't like that the ending had to be rushed plus Cordy for only one episode

Sp it turns out, I'm not actually writing about Angel today. I was too busy watching it! 😛

Season 4:
Like many people say, it took a huge drop in quality in this season. In my opinion, this season was the most inconsistent. It had moments of greatness and moments of crap. Personally, I loved the Initiative storyline. I also loved Riley, unlike... everyone else. He was so perfect for Buffy at that time in her life. I love Tillow's blossoming love; they're the one and only ship I ship for. Some one-shots were phenomenal some were crap (as you can see, inconsistency is a running them of this season). Pretty much this whole season is one-shots which makes it really hard to watch. This was the season that I stopped half-way through, and came back a week later.
Big Bad- Adam is wonderful. Not much emotion, but that can be expected. Imo Buffy (with the rest of the gang) vs. Adam is the best fight in Buffy ("...but yours is right here")
Best Episodes- Living Conditions, Hush, Who Are You, New Moon Rising, Primeval, Restless

Season 5:
I'm kind of on the edge about this season. There are some moments of brilliance; moments where I can't stopped watching it. Then there are moments where I am so completely bored. I liked Glory, I liked Dawn, hell I liked chipped-Spike, none of it touched me though. I cry like hell in The Body, but just not in The Gift. Don't ask, because I don't know the answer. Once again, Tillow's relationship is fantastic. I honestly can't answer what I didn't like about this season, it just bored me.
Big Bad- As far as Big Bad's go, probably down at the bottom of the list, but interesting, and she's a God?!? Ben is Glory?!?
Best Episodes- Family, Fool for Love, Triangle, Checkpoint, The Body, Spiral, The Gift. (Isn't weird that I love so many episodes out of this season?!?)

Ok, sorry for anyone that cares. I'm done for the day. 😛 Next two coming up tomorrow! lol

Buffy

Season 1

Great first season by anybody's standards. It's amazing to think this brilliant show started life as a mid-season replacement (does anybody know what it replaced? I've always wondered) & went on to such success. I can't see that happening these days. The actual content of the first season is very light as the writers & cast discover the characters. I remember thinking the "Angel is a vampire" twist was epic when I watched it as it first aired. You could really see the potential of the show by the season finale (one of the best, imo) Buffy's "I'm sixteen", speech still stands as one of the finest moments of the entire series.

Season 2

Back for a full 22 ep run & it's time to up the ante, enter Spike. Everything about this season is great (apart from Kendra, whose idea was the accent?!? Yeesh) it has comedy, drama & yet another brilliant twist with Angel going evil in midseason. The balls to introduce Spike as, for all intents & purposes, the season's big bad, then have Buffy's vampire lover turn out to be the actual big bad, then have the fake-out big bad work with Buffy to take down Angel... Ruddy masterful if you ask me.

Season 3

So, the Slayer's done a runner, her mates are forced to police the Hellmouth & it's senior year, *Mr Burns voice* excellent. Overall an amazing season of TV. The Mayor is utterly brilliant, whoever came up with him (Joss, I strongly suspect) is a genius. The emotional journey of childhood to adulthood is really explored quite nicely in this season, the growth of all of the characters is very pronounced. Faith was a great idea too (although, I really don't rate Eliza as much of an actress at this point, sorry), the interplay between her & Buffy as both of them tried to figure out what being the Slayer meant to them was amazing to watch. Another brilliant finale, the Sunnydale High class of '99 standing as one to thwart Mayor Wilkins ascension never fails to choke me up, as does the scene in The Prom when Buffy gets her class protector award (ironically presented by Jonathan). As a footnote, I'm not a 'shipper by any definition of the term but the closest I've ever come to getting emotional over a 'ship moment is that classic Bangel scene on the hilltop in Amends, awesome TV.

Season 4

My favourite season. The reason? I think the writers managed to strike just the right balance between comedy & drama in this season, I think the actors were so comfortable in the characters & I think the over-arc was great (if not executed entirely perfectly). Bringing back Spike & then doing what they did to him (also, he got used as a fake out big bad again, if only for about a minute, lol) was inspired. The comedy derived from Spike in this season is some of the finest I've seen in one-hour scripted drama.

Season 5

I'm kinda ambivalent about this season, Glory is dead-on, the rest just leaves me feeling a little bit meh. Someone else said that it's slow, I'd agree with that completely, I dislike the Joyce's illness arc & Dawn redefines annoying (until S7, but we'll get to that...) The series is saved (for me) by the episodes following The Body. Those six eps really make me wonder what they were playing at up to that point. The Gift is phenomenal, as good as everybody says & then some. I always felt that Joss maybe thought they were on the bubble that year & wasn't sure about renewal & I think that carries on to the general disorganisation of the last two seasons.

Season 6

Ah season 6, what can I say about season 6? On a recent rewatch I noiced it's actually not as much of a trainwreck as I thought 🙂 The Trio aside (seriously, what did someone come up with that idea on the bog one morning? Should've flushed it with the other turd), S6 has a lot of great moments. Invisible Buffy is bloody hilarious, the scene with Xander walking in on some Spuffy sex quite literally reduced me to tears the last time I watched it. OMWF is inspired TV & Willow's magic addiction is actually watchable for me, if for no other reason than to kill myself with laughter when she's trippin' balls at Rack's place 🙂 Tara's death was a bit of a b*stard *shake fist at Joss* but I guess it had to happen to facilitate Dark Willow, as Buffy tends to need something to beat on during the season finale. Gile's return was welcome & the scene in Grave where he & Buffy wet themselves at the current state of affairs is among my favourite scenes of the entire series (Joss uses that device again in the pilot of Firefly). Amazing cliff-hanger at the end though, having the last words of the season be; "Very well, we will return your soul" after the fake out with Spike's ambiguous dialogue (Spike was once again used as a fake out, I imagine a lot of people on first viewing thought that he was going to be the S7 big bad) was masterful, a real WTF?!? moment.

Season 7

This season actually starts off really well, Spike is quite compelling to watch & then the smegging potentials turn up *shakes head in dismay* the actual concept is quite good, but did every single one of them have to be written as an annoying idiot? Especially Rona, good grief, if I was in that house TFE wouldn't have needed to worry about her bitchy little ass, I'd have ganked her myself. Rona = Dawn(s5) x a million. Wood is also really dissapointing, great concept once again executed poorly. S7 is however totally save by an amazing end. I love Caleb, but then I have a total man-crush on Nathan Fillion 🙂 The finale is EPIC, I choke up everytime, a fitting end to a great TV show.

Angel

Season 1

Probably my least favourite season, it really does suffer from a lack of direction. I have a confession, I really don't like Doyle. Just never connected at all with his character & I think the series doesn't really get going till after he is killed off. The way he goes out is epic though, more great TV.

Season 2

Now this is more like it 🙂 Dark Angel is awesome, the Darla arc is superb. I love it when Angel locks the lawyers in with D 'n' D, you play with fire guys, guess what? Burn-y-ness. Again, the balls to do what is essentially a four-part season finale, is quite breathtaking. The Pylea eps cemented my love for the green one 🙂

Season 3

My favourite Angel season, possibly my favourite Whedon season. I think Julie Benz knocks it out of several ballparks as pregnant Darla, just brilliant. Holtz is my favourite adversarial character of all-time, he is the definition of Joss's quote about a great villian being partially right. I swear, they're points in that season I'm actually rooting for him.

Season 4

This season is a weird one, it's actually amazing (evil Cordy aside) until Jasmine turns up & ruins a lot of good work. The serialisation of the story really grips you & draws you in, with loads of cliffhangers & WTF?!? moments. The Beast is epic (that's officially the last time I use that word in this post), Cordy as the Beast's master, not so much. There's one specific moment that this season lost me, after AI figures out Cordy is the Beastmaster, they recap how she pulled off all her shenanigans (you know where I'm going don't you). The "Lizzie Borden" scene, who the f**K thought that worked as a dramatic scene? Seriously, the first time I saw that I just sat there in stunned silence, ice ages came & went, stars burst into existence then turned to black holes, I simply could not believe what I was seeing. Now when I watch it I just laugh my ass off, truly one of the worst scenes Joss has ever had his name associated with. Then came Jasmine & 'nuff said.

Season 5

I have serious trouble watching the start of this season without cracking up, DB is so out of shape it's kinda embarrassing. He fairly quickly sorts that out though & I can start to watch without distraction. I think that this season has some of the same problems as both S1 of AtS & S5 of BtVS (imo). It's slow to get going & it lacks a cohesive over-arc. That said, You're Welcome is a fantastic way to bring up you're ton, good on them for redeeming Cordy. After they worked so hard to change her into one of the truest champions in the 'verse, it would have been a tragedy if she'd have gone out as essentially a big bad. Smile Time was inspired (imo) the whole episode is everything I love about Whedon. A Hole in the World has to be the most heartbreaking ep of anything ever, Amy Acker can act, full stop. When Angel ganks Drogyn you really are starting to wonder what the hell is going on, great writing. I'm still not sure if I actually agree with his action, but I get why he thought he had to do it. Not Fade Away is truly ep... (damn, cant use the "E" word) monumental (ty thesaurus.com). I love the Wild Bunch-y-ness of it, stupendous way to finish a series.

Right, now I need to lie down 🙂

Tome

HAHAHAHAHAHA! :P I laughed at the end.
The Ferg
The Ferg
I agree with pretty much everything you said about BS5. (except the Joyce arc. Tat was the only arc I was truly attached to)
D
DoughnutHole
I agree with about a lot of what you say, specifically regarding BtVS. Props for s4 Love. Though I disagree on some of the Angel stuff... still, though. Great comments.
And now I realize that I shouldve read the wole thing before gving a reputation. I agree with pretty much everything you just wrote. Teres a couple things I disagree on but wtf. I would love to hear your opinions of other Whedon things, such as Firefly, Dr. Horible, an Dollhouse for example. Lol that is, if that's allowed in this thread of course.

P
pieceofgosa
I'll make a thread just for you bro :)
Ok the post you made Gosa was amazing! I would have given you double karma but sadly I can't haha!

There's a couple things you said I wanted to discuss.

I remember thinking the "Angel is a vampire" twist was epic when I watched it as it first aired.

That just gave me a great idea. Thanks dude.

I completely agree with these! I've got to add that the ending scene on the hilltop in Amends was the best Bangel moment for me. One of the few times that Angel actually stood up to Buff, there was so much emotion in that scene 😛

I always felt that Joss maybe thought they were on the bubble that year & wasn't sure about renewal & I think that carries on to the general disorganisation of the last two seasons.

Nice observation.

did every single one of them have to be written as an annoying idiot?

Uh huh!

Wood is also really dissapointing, great concept once again executed poorly.

Well I actually liked him, I think he would have been used more if there had been following seasons. I'm surprised he hasn't a bigger role in the comics.

The Pylea eps cemented my love for the green one.

LORNE KARMAAAAAAAA!!!!! Same here. The scene where his head open his eyes, and then Cordy spit on him, hahaha! I laughed for a good two minutes.

I think Julie Benz knocks it out of several ballparks as pregnant Darla, just brilliant. Holtz is my favourite adversarial character of all-time, he is the definition of Joss's quote about a great villian being partially right. I swear, they're points in that season I'm actually rooting for him.

Damn, I have troubles agreeing with you on this. I thought Holtz was boring. I watched s3 not too long ago and it changed my mind a bit, but his character still doesn't grip me.

The serialisation of the story really grips you & draws you in, with loads of cliffhangers & WTF?!? moments.

Exactly!

There's one specific moment that this season lost me, after AI figures out Cordy is the Beastmaster, they recap how she pulled off all her shenanigans (you know where I'm going don't you).

Are you talking about the moment you see flashbacks of Cordy killing the family, steal the soul and so on, or when Skip tell them it was all planned? Because if it's the first scene I mention... I always thought that was really weird, lol. Angel and the others quickly explaining everything(with some parts of it they could only GUESS).

Then came Jasmine & 'nuff said.

WHY oh why, do you get rid of the Beast and Angelus so quickly, and then bring that lame villain for 5 episodes? I liked the episode when Fred was all alone, you could really feel for her, but still... I remember when I first watched that season, I expected something really awesome to finish the story arc 🙁

Cheers dude.

It was specifically the shot during the revelation sequence at the start of Inside Out where naked Cordy slices & dices Manny. I just watched it again to clarify the episode & I still can't believe how frickin' ridiculous it is.

Season 6:
This is probably my favorite season. Every time I watch it I notice bad things about it (specifically the Willow-addict story), but at the end of the day I always find things about it that I love. While the addiction storyline did have it's bad points (and you all know what they are), I can't help but really feel for Willow. The metaphor is done really badly, but the storyline overall is great. Buffy's whole back-from-heaven story was really well written. Imo, this is the only reason S6 was made. Sure it had Willow, Xanya, and the trio, but the whole point was Buffy's coming back. I believe she worked through it really well.
Big Bad- The trio is phenomenal. I love how all they ever do is be annoying. Warren is pure evil. Imo, he IS true evil. Either that, or hes really stupid. Actually, both. And Dark Willow... Some of her lines are cheesy as hell, as we all know (fly my pretty, fly), but she's just so... epic.
Best Episodes- Bargaining, Life Serial, OMWF, Tabula Rasa, Normal Again, Villians, Grave

Sorry, I'm tired again. I should really start typing these early in the day. 😛

Buffy
Season One
It was good at providing an introduction to the characters and overall plot of the series. The acting isn't the best, but there are some classic episodes.

Season Two
This was the first season I really started watching and the first DVD set I bought. I'm not a fan of Bangel at all, but I liked Spike/Drusilla and the introduction of the Willow/Oz relationship.

Season Three
I honestly haven't watched this season as much. I loved Faith, but some of the episodes just kind of dragged for me. I wasn't a big fan of the Mayor.

Season Four
I have a love/hate relationship with this season. The Willow/Oz drama was emotional but interesting to watch, plus the introduction of Tara and episodes like "Hush" and "Restless." However, I do not like Riley and tended to skip through all the Initiative scenes. I just couldn't get into it. I liked how very Frankenstein's monster-esque Adam was though.

Season Five
Season five is one of my favorites. It's another that I watched pretty early in my Buffy viewing escapades. I couldn't stand Glory or Dawn (at first), but the plot was epic. Tara getting brain-sucked and the loss of Joyce were utterly heartbreaking.

Season Six
Another favorite. I like the dark turn it took. There isn't much I didn't like about this season, except Warren (I don't mind Jonathan or Andrew too much). I didn't like his treatment of Katrina or Tara's death, of course.

Season Seven
There really wasn't anything in particular that stood out about this season...it was just okay. The Potentials weren't very noteworthy, Willow/Kennedy was just okay. I did enjoy seeing Buffy's reformed attitude toward Spike and how he behaved with a soul. I also liked that Good Faith returned.

I honestly haven't watched more than half an episode of Angel. I plan to buy the first season on DVD sometime soon.

Hokay... here I go!

BUFFY

Season 1:

Love it. It's different from the others, but it serves as a great intro. I love the humor and the character developement. It's interesting to see glimmers of what it would become in the future. Season 1 is amongst my favorites. Every episode is lovable.

Season 2:

IMO, this season is the Epitome of BtVS. It has the drama, the humour, the romance, the spunk, the fun, the beauty, the sadness, it has everything that I love about the show. If I need some Buffy therapy, this is the season I go for. There is not a single episode that I could not/have not watched dozens and dozens of times. It's simply transcendent, IMO.

Season 3:

Great for character developement. It's interesting to watch the first episode and the last episode back to back, and to realize how much each character goes through in this season and how much they grow as people. Especially considering it's their last year as high school students. I love this season, though not as much as S1 and S2.

Season 4:

I credit this season as being my favorite. It is a transition season... new scoobies are introduced, some leave, and it's right before any of the huge changes happen. I started a thread a while ago about how I thought this was the funniest season. And, for me, it is. I love that about it... I love everything about this season. It's also the last season before Dawn is introduced. The Core four are still Core. Not to mention it has some of the most artful episodes in Buffy history: Hush, Primeval, Restless. I honestly can't say a bad thing against it. I just love it endlessly.

Season 5:

Great season. I do like it. Actually, it's been a while, I should really give it another watch. It contains some more really artful episodes, specifically The Body and The Gift (which I think is one of the best series finales ever... even though it wasn't a series finale haha!) I like Glory... mostly because of her similarities to Buffy. I think Buffy said it best when she said something along the lines of "I'm tired of strong little women who aren't me" lmao... so true. It's hardly my favorite season. But it has it's moments. I just have trouble with Dawn. What makes me so attached to the show is the dynamic between the scoobies, which is probably why the last three seasons aren't as near and dear to my heart.

Season 6:

Spike and Buffy is ace! I think the premise of season 6 is superb. I don't love it any where near as much as I love the earlier seasons. But it's brilliant, and I'm aware of that.

Season 7:

Eh. What can I say... easily my least favorite season. But it's still top quality. I mean, this is BtVS we're talking about. My biggest gripe is about the Potentials. Just annoyingly bad acting. And I hated watching relationships unravel. I couldnt handle any more motivational speaches from the Buff. Sometimes it was just largely overwrought. Whatever, though... still better than a lot of stuff that's on TV.

ANGEL

Season 1:

My favorite Season. Hilarious! A frikkin great beginning, and the chemistry between Angel/Doyle/Cordy and then Angel/Wes/Cordy is astounding. Joss and his crew are clearly geniuses of chemistry.

Season 2:

I like that they brought back Darla. Though it's interesting watching S1 of Buffy and how much her character changed for the purposes of AtS. I think it was a great arc, though. Really made for some interesting story lines. I gotta say, though, S2 contains easily the most ridiculous Angel moment. When he splits from Angel Investigations, and the montage of him training and walking around all tough with the voice-over about how serious he is. I can't help but laugh. Oh Angel. Take a chill pill. <3 Love the last few episodes, though, in Pylea. Some of the most classic moments in Angel history.

Season 3:

Fred... Vamps having babies... Vamps having babies that turn out to be Connor... Quite interesting. What can I say. The darkness really creeps in with this season, and sets the mood.

Season 4:

The Beast is AWESOME. Despite the obvious ick-factor of Connor and Cordy, this season has one of the best plot-lines in TV history. Period. The Ambiguity of Jasmine, and the "big bad" is absolutely astounding. Like it or not, you have to admit that the arc is genius.

Season 5:

Reminds me of what made me love S1. The humor comes back in full force. I think this show could have gone beyond season 5, so it's unfortunate it was cancelled. But, at the same time, it's a perfect send-off. I've said it before, too, that Not Fade Away was a superb series finale.

When he splits from Angel Investigations, and the montage of him training and walking around all tough with the voice-over about how serious he is. I can't help but laugh. Oh Angel. Take a chill pill. <3

HEYYYY! That was coooool 🙁 Lol!

Buffy

Season 1
A fun and quirky start to the show with a lot of corny moments that make you want to laugh. A simple plot with lots of one arc episodes so you didn't get lost if you started watching it from the middle of the season.

Season 2
Brilliant! To me it was the best season of Buffy it matured over season 1 a lot. Plus Angel going bad-ass? Whats more genius than that!

Season 3
Second favourite season. Loved how Faith was introduced and you get to see her on a big self destruct mode with her life. Having the Mayor as the big bad was awesome and of course the season finale was one hell of a way to graduate.

Season 4
Interesting way to see the Scooby Gang grow up and sort of part ways temporarily. Wasn't too fond on the Initiative and Adam annoyed me towards the end of the season. A good season finale that left a mystery of who is Dawn.

Season 5
Dawn! What a way to confuse everyone with Dawn suddenly being introduced like she had always been there. Sad to see Joyce die a natural death and Glory being a real bad ass chick that Buffy was scared of. Buffy's death was a nasty shocker for the season finale.

Season 6
Personally the most depressing season so far. Too much depression from Buffy. Dawn's constant whining and Giles leaving! Willow's abuse of magic was the most interesting part. Didn't care too much for Spike on his soul quest I tend to skip that part but Willow as the big bad was rather good.

Season 7
I loved how they set up the finale season with it all being about the Slayer and the line being destroyed. But it sort of went downhill a bit when The First just became annoying and not doing much. I loved the season finale with all the Potentials becoming Slayers but it was too rushed and the end fight didn't last as long as I hoped it would.

Angel

Season 1
The first season was brilliant I loved Doyle and Cordy's relationship. I hated his heroic death because he went too soon. Wesley was just brilliant to have added to the cast.

Season 2
I skip a lot of this season as I just find it drags on too much with Angel going to the dark side in a new way. Loved Darla's return and Cordy's hair constantly changing and who didn't love Lorne and going to Pylea!

Season 3
Much better season. New gang and a new beginning... until Darla turns up pregnant. Didn't see it coming and I thought Holtz was a great big bad. Didn't like Connor as a teenager though but loved Cordy's powers growing.

Season 4
Loved the start of the season but soon started to find it too long, boring and dark. Cordy and Connor sleeping together was just wrong! The worst part along with Cordy being pregnant. Loved Faith's return to get back Angelus but wasn't overly fond of Jasmine.

Season 5
Interesting with the gang running Wolfram & Hart but to me it lacked a lot. I thought Spike's death in Buffy was cheapened with him showing up in season 5. Cordy dying so suddenly was another cheapened storyline along with Fred becoming Illyria. The ending was just a "Oh is that it" reaction.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Season One

Pros:
- It introduced the whole universe, the concept, the setting, and all these wonderful little characters that have wonderful interaction. You gotta give it credit for that
- Most characters were at their most likeable (Angel and Cordy excluded, they were good but were at their best on AtS).
- Wonderful character interaction that showcased the strength of the core four Scoobies. It's kinda nice to just the four of them before the show became saturated with characters.
- The season had a very fun, nice tone that made it a pleasure to watch.

Cons:
- The season had a very fun, nice tone that made the season a little light-going, it's not as thought-provoking or emotionally powerful as later seasons.
- Too many "monster of the week" episodes. They were, on the whole, average. That, combined with the light feel of the season made many episodes rather disposable. Enjoyable, but disposable nonetheless.
- The Master had some good lines, but was quite a clichéd and hammy villain, especially when compared to the villains of the next few seasons.
- I put the strength of the core four as a "˜pro', but I should say that I do miss many of the great characters to come. There's no Anya, Oz, Faith, Spike, etc, Angel is a mysterious supporting character and not a proper Scooby and Cordelia doesn't even find out about the supernatural until the penultimate episode. I like the core four alone, though I like the larger Scooby group also.

Episode ranking:

1. Prophecy Girl
2. Out of Mind, Out of Sight
3. Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest
4. The Witch
5. Angel
6. Nightmares
7. The Pack
8. Teacher's Pet
9. The Puppet Show
10. Never Kill a Boy on the First Date
11. I Robot, You Jane

Overall: 7/10
A decent enough season, but the show is only finding its feet and doesn't kick properly into gear until those last two episodes, which are more similar to S2. Perhaps due to its short length, it doesn't really feel like a proper season. It's not brilliant, but it does its job well enough.

Season Two

Pros:
- The introduction of Spike and Drusilla. Wonderful characters that redefined what a vampire was in this show. They truly were something different and fresh, and truly entertaining.
- The Angelus arc is wonderful, very emotionally powerful. It marks a drastic change in the show, from a casual monster-of-the-week show to an emotionally devastating arc-based show. The death of Jenny also set the tone for a show that would go on to kill several more characters.
- Angelus, Spike and Drusilla together made the best Big Bads the show has ever had. There will never be a better team of villains.
- The finale is probably the greatest episode ever.
- This was the first season I ever saw, so it has a special place in my heart for that.
- Just gonna repeat the importance of the move towards an arc-based, emotionally powerful, I cannot stress how important that was to the show. It couldn't carry on as S1 forever, it needed to put the characters through the wringer so that they could come out stronger at the other end.

Cons:
- Still too many monster-of-the-week episodes, which were inferior to the arc-centric episodes. Many episodes were still disposable and forgettable.
- Linked to above, a lack of consistency in quality. Episodes like "Innocence" and "Passions" were interspersed with "Bad Eggs" and "Go Fish".

1. Becoming
2. Innocence
3. Passion
4. School Hard
5. Lie to Me
6. Halloween
7. What's my Line?
8. Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
9. The Dark Age
10. I Only Have Eyes for You
11. When She Was Bad

13. Surprise
14. Ted
15. Killed By Death
16. Inca Mummy Girl
17. Some Assembly Required
18. Go Fish
19. Bad Eggs
20. Reptile Boy

Overall: 9/10
A truly wonderful season containing some of the best moments/episodes of the show's run, only let down by a few sub-par episodes. Much more of a mixed bag than S3.

Season Three

Pros:

- Faith, an amazing complex character that brought something new and extraordainary to the show. My second-favourite character in Buffy, and probably in my top 5 all-time.
- The Buffy/Faith relationship and subtext. I'm a sucker for gay subtext, and this season gave it to me in spades. Subtext aside even, I thought that their relationship was one of the most interesting in the show.
- The Mayor. A truly different villain, he was completely evil yet warm, kind, funny, and genuinely cared about Faith.
- A movement away from Monster-of-the-week type episodes to an arc-based story. Granted this really started back with "Innocence", but it was good to have a whole season like that.
- Greater consistency with the quality of episodes. There aren't really any episodes that I'd classify as really poor in S3, the second-worst episode (Gingerbread) I'd classify as "average".
- Some of the funniest lines in the history of the show, such as in Doppelgangland ("I'm an evil, bloodsucking fiend! Look at my outfit!"), The Zeppo ("Is this a penis metaphor?"), Graduation Day ("We could attack the mayor with hummus.") and Band Candy ("Woo, Summers, you drive like a spazz!")
- Possibly the strongest core cast the show has ever had in Buffy/Xander/Willow/Giles/Cordelia/Oz/Angel/Faith.
- Just the feel of the show in this season. Everything about it, from the dialogue to the characters to the opening sequence had me squeeing at the top of my voice and rocking in delight. I was truly in love with the show.

Cons:

- Lack of stand-out episodes. The greater consistency came at a price - almost every episode was of a high quality, but not many reached the stage of brilliance. Only Graduation Day resides in my top ten.
- Angel didn't really have anything to do this season. It felt for much of the season like he was just hanging around waiting for his spin-off to begin.
- The romance. Willow/Xander lacked chemistry and felt very awkward. It's incredible how the two had so much chemisty as friends, but introduce romance into the equation and all chemistry goes down the toilet. Buffy/Angel was very dreary and dragged out, like Angel himself it felt like they were hanging around waiting to break up.

1. Graduation Day
2. Helpless
3. The Zeppo
4. Consequences
5. Doppelgangland
6. Lover's Walk
7. Enemies
8. Revelations
9. Earshot
10. Bad Girls

12. Band Candy
13. Homecoming
14. Anne
15. The Prom
16. Faith, Hope and Trick
17. Amends

21. Dead Man's Party

Overall: 10/10
The best season of BtVS. I found it hard to rank the episodes because they're all so consistent. This season didn't just have great moments, it was pretty much all greatness.

Season Four

Pros:
- Great standalone episodes. The generally quality of episodes was pretty high. We had Hush, This Year's Girl/Who Are You, Restless, Fear Itself. Something Blue is possibly the funniest Buffyverse episode there is ("Can I be blind too?")
- Spike, prior to his Badass Decay. He was still at his most awesome in the season, he began to show layers but still kept the entertainment factor. His speech at the end of "Doomed" is simply wonderful ("Let's get 'em, for... Christmas, and the safety of... puppies, yeah? Let's KILL something! Come on!") He fought with the good guys, but was still badass. He kinda lost it as a character for me after he fell in love with Buffy.
- Anya and Xanya. The funniest character afer Spike. We can all agree that she was a great addition to the show, there couldn't have been a better replacement for Cordelia. Her relationship with Xander was very entertaining and set the groundworks for a very sweet relationship in S5.
- The introduction of Tara and Tillow. We don't get a lot of her this season, but what we do get is brilliant. I don't think it is humanly possible to not like Tara. Her relationship with Willow was very sweet, I loved Oz and all but Tara and Willow were just amazing together.
- The return of Faith. She only got 20 episodes in Buffy overall, so we must savour each one, and these two were just wonderful. Great to see her again.
- Some very interesting character arcs, which came to a head in Restless.
- The crossovers with Angel were good, especially the Faith episodes. Pangs wasn't well done, but it was nice that the two shows were interconnected.

Cons:
- The loss of Angel, Cordelia and Oz hurt - although I do think that their replacements were more than adequate, so it wasn't too noticeable.
- Unintresting Big Bad. I didn't hate Adam, he just didn't do much for me. He kinda suffered from coming a long line of very popular villains in Spike, Drusilla, Angelus, Faith and the Mayor, so his crappiness was more noticeable.
- Poor story arc. The Initiative was an OK idea, but implemented poorly. It was presented as an awful establishment, but to be honest it probably did a lot of good that wasn't accounted for. They even indirectly saved the world in giving Spike a chip. It felt kind of at odds to previous themes - Buffy had always been about rejecting the old order - quitting the council, using her own unusual methods to identify and kill vampires. Criticising a new system because the old method of "one girl with a pointy stick" was better felt kind of odd. Plus, it just wasn't that interesting to sustain a season-long arc.
- Riley and by extension Briley. God, I hate this guy. I hate with with a furious, vengeful passion. Every time this guy appeared on screen I just wanted to bash his stupid potato-shaped head in with a shovel. Gah, I hate Riley. And the whole Buffy/Riley relationship felt forced and a little bit pointless. It didn't really do anything except alienate Buffy from her friends. Boring and stupid. I hate this relationship more than Spuffy and Bangel combined, and that's saying something.
- No permanent meeting place. The show lacked focus without it. The scenes were all over the place - Buffy's dorm, Buffy's house, the classroom, the Initiative, Giles' flat, Xander's basement, Riley's frat house. It could've done with a Library/Magic Box equivalent.
- The scoobies begin to drift apart. Their interaction in early season is still like that of S1/2/3, but around the middle of the season, certainly by The Yoko Factor, they lacked that tight-knit closeness they once had. I missed the Scoobies being so close, and despite them apaprently reconciliating in Primeval, they never truly recovered.
- Introduction of Spike. Now I know that I've already listed this as a pro, but while I loved him in this season, looking long-term I think his introduction as a permanent cast member was a Bad Thing. He was entertaining this season but didn't really do much, and I think by S5 they didn't really know what to do with him, so he fell in love with Buffy to keep him occupied. Still entertaining, but by S6 I felt completely ruined his character. In hindsight and looking long-term I think I would have kept him out of the main cast, just occasionally guesting instead. Perhaps Faith would've been a better choice to fill his role.
- RILEY! *shakes fist*

Overall: 8/10
A very underrated season I think. Yes Adam and the Initiative didn't make a very interesting arc, yes Riley was a douchebag, but it was still an incredibly fun season to watch. It wasn't as good as the last two seasons but I still absolutely loved the show. It had light-hearted comedy (Something Blue) to thought-provoking mindf**k (Restless). Television gold, when Riley wasn't on screen.

Season Five

Pros:
- A return to a stronger core cast with the reunion of the Scoobies in "Primeval" and their relocation to a new central meeting place "“ the Magic Box.
- The exit of Riley and the increased presence of Anya and Tara.
- Glory as a Big Bad presented a massive challenge to Buffy. You really had no idea how she was going to be able to defeat a God, and it she actually could. The way they defeated her was brilliant, they hit her with everything they had, using various items they had acquired over the course of the season.
- "The Gift" is a wonderful finale. I don't think they could've written a better one, it's a beautiful conclusion that ties up all the loose ends and is absolutely perfect character-arc-wise and thematically.
- The exploration of what a Slayer really is was really interesting.
- There was a powerful realism to this season.

Cons:
- The powerful realism of this season. It bordered on depression, and though it made for good TV, I have very little desire to rewatch "Shadow", "Listening to Fear" or even the wonderful "The Body". It just wasn't as fun as previous seasons.
- Somehow, Riley actually managed to be more of an arse this season than S4. Quite an achievement really.
- Spike falling for Buffy. Although it was alright at first, in hindsight I think that this was a very bad road for the character to go down. I've written much on this before. I think it would've been fine if S5 had been the last series.
- It wasn't the last season. Dammit Buffy, quit while you're ahead!

Overall: 9/10
An excellent season that utilises all the characters well and handles some very strong themes. It does get a little depressing sometimes and doesn't have as many strong episodes as some other season, but it's still very good. Should have been the end of Buffy.

Season Six

Pros:

- Once More, With Feeling.
- Xander saving the world in "Grave". Good for him.

Cons:
I have written about my feelings in more detail here:
https://www.buffy-boards.com/showpost.php?p=788000&postcount=24
However here are my condensed points:
- Two words: Magic Drugs
- Buffy becoming a hollow shell of her former self that was not only disturbing to watch, but she was a selfish bitca also - she'd rather have sex with a vampire than get home to her starving, neglected sister. If she can't be bothered to take care of Dawn, she should just take her back to the pound. Go die in a fire, S6 Buffy.
- Spike, the creepy, abusive, dull, emotionally manipulative asshat with no sense of personal space. Go die in a fire, S6 Spike. You used to be epic.
- Willow the mind-raping junkie. Not only is she an arsehole early on, her drug arc is mind-numbingly stupid.
- Giles the moron with an OOC reason for leaving, Xander the coward, Dawn the whiny, screechy teenager and Anya the pointless.
- Tara's insulting and unneeded death.
- Too little Giles!
- The Trio as the Big Bad. They were just half-hearted nerd stereotypes. I thought the writers were better than that. Not only were they one-dimensional ciphers, but they went against everything the show was about before "“ the outcasts and the freaks as the heroes.
- Dark Willow. She was OK in "Villains", but from then on she just wandered around delivering clichéd, hammy one-liners. We sacrificed Tara for her?
- The mind-numbing, skin-crawling, dreary depression of the whole thing. Not one single thing good thing happened all season, just a Deus Angst Machina barrage of crap. Angst is great, but life, and television, is all about balance. S6 did not have balance.
- Buffy's problems being both unrelatable-to (being ripped from heaven) and far too everday (money problems) led to a serious case of Angst Dissonace for me.
- Lack of decent inter-scooby bond.
- The Spike/Buffy relationship was painful to my eyes, and insulting to both characters.
- Too many god-awful episodes "“ everything from "Smashed" to "Hell's Bells" was utter durge, with some other crap dotted around the season. Even OMWF is overrated.
- Its very existence tarnished the beautiful "The Gift". The show had just had the perfect finale, there should be no more after that.
- It's just really crap.

An almost irredemable sack of crap.

Season Seven

Pros:
- Most of the cast was much, much more likeable than they had been in S6.
- The early season period was wonderful, it felt like proper Buffy again. The "back to roots" theme and the build-up of the First Evil was a great start.
- Hey, a sense of humour! And woah, good things happening to characters? I missed you, Good Things, where've you been?
- More Giles! And Faith! (though still not nearly enough of either)
- The episodes centering on the minor characters (Selfless, Storyteller) were very well done.
- This season did manage to repair some of the damage done in S6. Generally speaking, it was an improvement. However...

Cons:
- Buffy: Bitch Extraordainare. With all due respect Buffy, go to hell. Early season she acted more like her old self, but as soon as the Potentials turned up she switched to "General Buffy" mode. She became unbelievably self-righteous, she seized control and insisted that everybody played by her rules, not letting anyone else get a word in edgeways, she treated her friends like slaves and made them feel guilty when she felt they weren't good enough, she inexplicably prioritised the man who tried to rape her last season over her oldest and dearest friends, her mentor and even her sister, she lost all sense of fun, failed to give anyone the benefit of the doubt, stabbed Anya, acted like an unforgiving bitca to Faith, gave far too many boring speeches, and my good god she whined. S7 wasn't like S6 Buffy, who was a hollow shell not resembling herself at all, but she was a caricature of her former self. She was just like S1-5 Buffy, except with all her good traits removed and all her worst traits played way up. It's actually made me like S1-5 Buffy less, which is a shame because I used to like her.
- Spike's total eclipse of the show. Whatever your opinion about Spike, whether you think he's a good character or a bad one, when it comes down to it, this is not his show. He should not be given shedloads of screentime while Giles, Xander, Willow, Dawn and Anya are marginalised. He was in most scenes, and even when he wasn't on-screen characters were talking about him. He was repeatedly given plotlines - struggling with the soul, agent of the First, chip malfunctioning, struggle with fighting, history with Wood, relationship with Buffy, saving the world - while characters like Xander had to scrabble around on the floor for a scrap of decent characterisation. You can see how much he overwhelmed the show when you consider that in every other season finale, Buffy, another core four Scooby or a combination of them has saved the world, yet in S7 it was Spike.
- Not just Spike's over-exposure, but his character itself. For much of the time he was just cribbing off Angel's storyline - vampire with a soul, regrets past deeds, falls in love with Buffy Summers, tries to get Buffy to kill him because of the guilt... where have I heard that before? The Never Leave Me/Bring on the Night/Showtime trilogy was just Amends without the snow. Yet instead of having the noble, selfless heroism and the adorable awkwardness that made Angel such a wonderful character, he was largely a massive jerk. LMPTM was the worst offender, with him taunting Wood about his dead mother, implying that women should be stay-at-home mothers otherwise they don't love their children enough and showing no remorse at all for his past sins. And then in "Touched" he punched Faith for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Go die in a fire, S7 Spike... oh, wait you did. OK, thanks, we're cool now.
- The Potentials. Awful characters, whiny, cowardly little bastards that were almost as much of a drain on screentime as Spike was. None of them could even act, or do a convincing British accent.
- The First. Just when you thought that Big Bads couldn't get any worse, Dr Monologue comes along and shows us new levels of complete stupidity. It's a shame because the First had had great buildup - going through all the previous Big Bads in Lessons, Conversations With Dead People, blowing up the Watcher's Council. But it all failed to pay off. For a start, it can't actually touch anything. A villain that can be successfully outmanouvred by sticking your fingers in your ears and going "LALALALALA" is not a good villain. Yet the characters seemed to be convinced that the First could just appear and kill them in their beds, when all it could do is disguise itself and monologue them to death. And when the Scoobies were themselves too stupid to implement a simple handshake policy to identify any possibly primal evils, they deserved to die. Even its minions, which actually could touch things, inexplicably left Buffy alive when they could've finished her off 6 or 7 times. It didn't even have a clear motive - first it wanted to wipe out the slayer line, then it was trying to reawaken the ubervamps, then it wanted to open the Hellmouth, then it wanted to become corporeal... In short, The First had wonderful buil-up with absolutely zero follow-through.
- Anya's wonderful, interesting story arc was completely dropped after "Selfless", and Xander's, Giles's and Dawn's were nowhere to be seen.
- Angel's appearance was ridiculously OOC. Buffy and Angel should be acting like they did in IWRY, awkward and tense, not snogging all over the place and talking about getting back together when absolutely nothing has changed since the end of S3. It ignored all of Angel's character development at the end of S3, and his behaviour is completely irreconcilable with the man who just took over an evil law firm, mind-wiped his friends, gave his only child away and left the woman he's been in love with for the last 2 and a half seasons in a coma that she may never come out of.

It's not awful. It didn't feel pain while watching it like S6. But there were some massive problems with it - when a show with formerly a large cast of lovable characters now only gives decent screentime to two chaarcters, both of which are completely asshats, you know something it wrong. And when the Big Bad is about as dangerous as a tape recorder, you know something is even wronger.
