Oz was meant to die in Season 2's Passion, he was goin to be killed by Angel. But instead Jenny was killed off instead!!!

Joss is so cruel!!!
 
OK, being objective here. Really. Just hear me out ok?

Killing Jenny had an impact on Buffy (and us viewers) that killing Oz couldn't have had. Oz was around for only five or siz episodes at that point, and his relationship with Willow was very new. I think it wouldn't have been believable to kill Oz and Willow go through the pain and torment that Giles went through when Jenny died? Why? Because Willow had only known him a short while. She didn't even really cry over Jesse being dead, who she had known a lot longer. Killing Oz would have been sad, but not devestating (I don't think many of us would have loved him to quite the same extent.)

On the other hand, instead of killing a friend's love interest, Angelus went after Buffy's *watcher*! To have the man she loved torment the man she trusted most was, IMO, brilliantly heart-wrenching. I don't think you could have gotten there if Willow had been the primary sufferer. True, Willow and Buffy were best friends, but I just think that hurting Buffy's parental figure was so much more resonant that hurting her peer.

In the end, Joss always goes for the most heart-wrenching thing possible. It was definately Jenny, not Oz, that would cause the most anguish.

But, I guess that's your point.
 
I agree, D9. Although, I did really like Jenny. Damn them for having to kill her!

Also, there actually was a reason for Angel to kill Jenny, aside from tormenting Giles and in turn, Buffy. She was trying to restore his soul. Oz was just...there. Also Willow couldn't go on the revenge kick yet because she wasn't physically strong enough, and she wasn't into witchcraft enough yet. It wouldn't have turned out as well if Oz had died.
 
Yeah it was definitely a better choice to kill off Jenny...I didn't like Jenny much anyways, I mean even though she tried to help in the end, all along she was hiding things from them and she tried to screw over Buffy and Angel's relationship. Plus it would have sucked to have lost Oz so early and not been able to see his character develop.
 
Killing Jenny had more of an impact on the characters...

Like everyone's said, Oz was just kinda hanging out and not really an integral part of the story line.

But later, when Oz left Willow, it had an impact on the characters because he had become part of the gang and had a fan base...
 
Agree with D9 tht Oz shouldnt have died in place of jenny, it fit in with the story, just a shame it had to be, i know whod id prefer to see on the box, someone with a bit of charcter and spark.

I never heard that.

But I'd choose Jenny over Oz any day. Oz and Willow were so cute together!
 
Angelus just doesn't seem the type to Vamp anyone without a major plan of doing so. Dru was a masterwork for Angelus, his peice de resistance, a cosmic joke that stood the test of time. A mockery of all that is good and pure, by turning a sweet, chaste girl into a sweet, but insane monster.

If for nothing else, Angelus would be known to the world for that single 'achievement'. I can't see an evil-overachiever like him just vamping someone on a whim. It would cheapen his Drusilla accomplishment.

I'm glad it was Jenny that was killed though, Oz just had some much depth yet to be explored, and I think Joss recognized that.

Mmmm, I will always maintain that Oz had much more depth to be explored than what had been done when he left. A tragically under developed character that had so much potential.
 
I always thought he was deadly boring and totaly....pants. The shows better with him gone, ive seen more depth in my nieces paddling pool.
 
Whhyy didnt they kill Oz!! I would have rejoiced and been all happy. Jenny should have lived I really liked her. *sigh*
 
is everyone forgetting she was bad she knew what was goin to happen to Angel if he slept with buffy if shed warned them they mite be together now!!so Jenny can rot in hell! ::noangel: (sorry got a bit carried away) i like Oz he was sweet!!! 😀
 
Joss wanted to show that Angelus was a real bad*ss, so it was either Oz or Jenny. Wanna bet he just flipped a coin?
 
well Joss wanted Oz to stay but Seth wanted to leave and Joss did have a big story arc plannd out for Oz and he wanted to explore the charecter more
