Has anyone ever noticed the bizarre abundance of Widespread Panic posters everywhere in Sunnydale? All over the high school, all over downtown Sunnydale, all over the college campus, in dorm rooms, in the Bronze. This is just to name a few places. They appear (that I've confirmed) in seasons 2-3-4-5-6 for sure, maybe 1 and 7 too. My guess is that someone on the show, a producer or writer or someone in the set dressing department, was a big fan. No other band is represented like this (although there are lots of String Cheese Incident posters in season 5).

FYI Widespread Panic is an absolutely horrid American hippie rock band that people follow all around the country and that I guess you must have to be on drugs to think sound okay. And they really don't gel with the music that's actually on the show--Cibo Matto, K's Choice, all of these really edgy modern sexy bands.

Maybe it's just because of their name? Anybody else ever pick up on this?

I have never noticed this. Great observation, Rack! Perhaps Joss or one of the producers was a fan.

I have googled this and tried everywhere to find some answers...the only other product placement that's really evident in BTVS is Mac computers (they cover the Apple logo on Willow's in S7). If I ever make it to a con with one of the writers this is a burning question 😉

I've always wanted to know this myself, even after a similar amount of Googling. It would be my one big panel question.

However, I'd like to make a significant correction to the original post whose description of Panic fails to represent them as one of the great touring rock bands of our time. This is unfortunate, as now this thread is included in the feedback of all continued internet inquiry. This poster will refrain from commenting on their comparison to "modern sexy bands", and instead would like to take this opportunity to recognize WP as an amazing musical force.
