Paper On Buffy...Another Need Your Help Thread!

So im nearing the final weeks of my semester and my T.V cult class.. you know the one i did the presentation on Angel in? It went great, by the way.

I have free choice in what my final paper will be, but it can only be 5-7 pages. so she said whatever show we do, DONT try to cram everything into 5-7 pages because it just won't happen (as we def know with Buffy!). so she said pick a character, or a season, or a theme and go with that. But it has to come back to why it makes the show a cult show.

Willow seemed to easy and almost boring topic. My brother suggested Xander... and i would LOVE to do a paper on Xander and how he remains the one without any "powers" but still sees and deals with things that are extraordinary making him extraordinary but being someone we can all relate to, yadda yadda.

Thing is, i need sources. I know there are a ton of books (i have some) and there's that website for all the academic buffy stuff so thats great. But is there enough stuff on XANDER? Not that EVERY source needs to be about him totally or something...

I dunno. You think id have enough sources to write on him?

OR do you think there is another interesting topic i could do that isnt too broad? Thats her thing, she wants it to be pretty succinct so we can fit it into 7 pages max.

Suggestions? i can email her any time with my final paper proposal, its due may 2nd but i want to email her soon because im finally on spring break and would like to bang this out this week.

There's a book (I can't remember the exact title) about family in Buffy and Angel. I know there's an entire chapter dealing with Xander in there. You might try to hunt that one down if you have time.

Would transcript excerpts from commentary or bonus features on DVDs qualify as source material? It all comes from he writers/creators. I'm thinking specifically of the episode in S7 when Xander loses his eye, the commentary on that episode comes from both the actor and . . . either the writer or director of that episode.

I know that the box sets tend to have a featurette of: "here's the writing team talking about this season and all the character arcs" and they should make periodic reference to Xander and his growth through the series.

ok i wrote up the proposal for my professor and she loved the topic idea. im going to ask her tuesday if i can use those things as sources, but i know she wants me to use written material as well, and she recommended "Why Buffy Matters" and i have been wanting to get it for a while so her saying that convinced me lol.
