Paris Attacks

It's absolute chaos. Apparently the music hall where one of the attacks have taken place was during an Eagles of Death Metal gig.

So so awful.

I feel sick.

More and more explosions happening, at the Bataclan concert hall.

Is there any confirmation that it actually is religious extremists? Or are the rolling media outlets just going full steam ahead with the anti-islam propaganda.

Friday the 13th, man. Ugh. Those poor souls, just out to enjoy music and festivities.

Edit: Terrorism is despicable, just as despicable as tarring the people of the same religion with the same brush as these nutter extremists.

According to reports they screamed "This is for Syria … Allahu Akbar!” Allah is greater.
It makes me f*** sick. Yes, I think it's confirmed that they're jihadists. They apparently killed over 100 people in the concert hall so far.
This shit has to stop. I feel helpless. Why can't we just live peacefully? Why do these religious extremists have to kill innocent people for their delusions? I'm heartbroken. It's horrible and I just want it to stop.

It's so sad that innocent Muslims will be blamed. 99.9 percent abhor the violence and hatred being spread in the name of Allah - it is a perversion of all that Islam stands for.

Also - the Jews are canaries in the coal mine. They have been leaving Paris in droves because of the huge waves of antisemitism and attacks on synagogues, places where Jews gather, and people who wear signs that show they are Jews. France has no longer been considered a safe place for over a year.

9/11 was considered an attack on Jew York. The Mumbai attack were concentrated on Jewish targets. No idea if there are Jewish targets here - as I understand there were 7 places attacked - but the rise in antisemitism has become a warning.

There's been a big rise in right wing extremist politics in France sadly. Skinhead nazi fascist types, wearing swastikas, are popping up everywhere these days. Disgusting.
I just woke up to the news (early night). From what I gather from Sky News no group has yet claimed responsibility but one of the bombers was overheard to say it was because of France's role in Syria. It seems they have targeted the gig, cafe's a friendly football match between France and Germany (where the French President was in attendance).

If you have friends and loved ones over there I hope they are safe and here is to no more attacks.

The most important thing!
I honestly don't understand what ISIS want? They're also bombing mosques in the Middle East where Muslims gather to worship Allah. If they were really Muslims as they claim, why do they only bomb mosques in the Middle East? Mosque bombing has happened in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. And on Friday, the main day of worship for Muslims where a lot of Muslims pray in the mosques instead of home.

In feel so sick about what happened in Paris. Just thinking of those poor people who went there to have fun. It's only the innocent who pay the price and that's so depressing.

I agree, ISIS is definitely not Muslims. I have many Muslim friends and it it so far from the true beliefs of the religion.
More Muslims are being killed than any other group, but the media refuses to show that. The religious fanatics want our world to follow their perverted view of Islam, so Muslims who disagree are targets. There is a crazy wing in every religion - Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist - they have all been involved in terrorist activities but most have been in non-western areas so they get no media.

A bit of history because I am old. WWII ended colonialism, but the scars are still there. The British held the mandate for the middle east so after the war they created countries there, and Israel was among them. There have been Jews in the area since Roman times but there had not been a country (which has not state religion) for Jewish refugees. Holy hell broke loose and has continued with atrocities on both sides.

Meanwhile the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the US began. Eventually Reagan discovered the Afghan people trying to throw off the Soviets. We armed them, we trained them, we created Al Qaeda to fight the soviets. Al Qaeda won - the Soviets lost so much money trying to win that they split into Russia and independent satellites.

The third force is Wahhabi. The Arab nations have huge amounts of oil; income, none of which is distributed to the poor - a flagrant violation of one of the pillars of Islam. They arm the Palestinians rather than build schools and hospitals because it suits them to have a permanent war. Poor children go to school called madras(es) where they are taught only the Koran and that anyone who does not believe as they do is an infidel who should die. Wahhabi met Al Qaeda and it exploded into a whirlwind of religious intolerance. There was a huge army of young men trained that their only purpose was to fight and die, money from the oil fields to keep the poor (Saudis mostly) from attacking the govts and demanding their share of the wealth, and trained and armed military that the US created.

We hold up the Saudi royal family - one of the most corrupt in the mideast. That is one reason why we are hated. We support Israel by and large - that is another reason why we are hated. Then George Bush blew the whole damn thing up. Iraq was the last secular country in the area - nonreligious but keeping others at bay with talk of WMD. Bush blew up the entire damn apple cart - and the shit is hitting the fan big time.

So there are armed religious fanatics with reason to hate the west (according to their thinking) and reason to want to impose their religion who believe that Allah wants them to kill in order to remake the world in their image. Muslims who do not follow these beliefs are considered worse than infidels.

One more key piece - Britain also split India and created Pakistan - India as a Hindu country and Pakistan as a Muslim country. The two have been at was over a piece of land called Kashmir - given to the Hindus but mostly Muslim population. Bot have nuclear arms. In the past we have allied with India. But in order to fight Afghanistan we gave much money to Pakistan. This has also disrupted the area, created a huge problem between the religious Muslims and the govt, and destabilized the area even more.

Really interesting. Thank you for sharing.

Yes, they get beheaded in the streets and thrown off rooftops and all kinds of sick stuff, just because they, for example, are homosexual or refuse to pray or wear a hijab. And this is exactly why I don't understand why the so-called "moderate Muslims" don't react stronly against Islamists. Whenever something like this happens, they seem to deny that the terrorists are part of the same religion, no matter how different their principles.

This is a terrible crime, yet another terrorist attack upon a Eurpoean country. UK, Spain, Denmark, France (numerous times). France has declared it an act of war. I sympathise.

More Muslims are being killed than any other group, but the media refuses to show that.

Not only that, but the Western media refuses to show the Christians being persecuted in Arabic countries. There are christian refugees dying in droves and in fear for their life in ever Islamic corner of the world and they are being ignored.

There is a crazy wing in every religion - Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist - they have all been involved in terrorist activities but most have been in non-western areas so they get no media.

There's no parity here. Modern Western countries dont generally deny the right of another country to exist on the face of the earth and then go on to promise to obliterate it with nuclear weapons.
Nor has a Hindu (for example) gotten on a train with an machine gun with the intent of killling everyone on board. Do Christians kill cartoonists for how they dipict Jesus?

Not all, or even most, muslims are terrorists- that should go without saying- but there is a problem here and it is focused on this particular religion.
In Northern ireland when Catholics and Protestants were blowing each other up and shooting each other nobody was claiming that Buddhists were just as bad. The first thing you have to do is identify the problem before you can go about solving the problem.
Clearly the problem is extremist muslims.

None of the events about have that much to do with Paris though do they? I can understand (in abstract) Mulsim hatred of the US or UK, but the fact is they target anyone who is non-muslim (tell me what has Denmark, the most tolerant European country, done wrong to warrent the rise of extremists within its borders?) and making excuses for why this sort of thing originated doesn't help the situation now.
The situation in France has much more to do with displaced Algerians anyway, who feel that they are second-class citizens and has led to increased internal tensions and ghetto-ization on the outskirts of the Capital.

Generalities for the why and wherefor on either side help no-one.
I can't help that feel that, so soon after 128 Parisians lost their lives to bombs and guns, its the wrong time to be pointing out the sins of the West. In the strongest possible terms we need to figure out solutions, not pointing fingers at apparent causes, some of which were decades ago.

React strongly how?

Judging by ISIS bombing the mosques in the Middle East, I'm starting to believe that they are not real Muslims. ISIS is a criminal group getting their funding and power from somewhere. Muslims have been their target from the beginning. What's more Muslim than a person praying for Allah in a mosque and that person gets blown up? For praying to Allah? It just doesn't make the slightest bit of sense.

Maybe a 'Not In Our Name' march like we saw in London before the Iraq war?
People didn't like the way a situation was developing and so they marched- that would show that they objected to something bad being done 'in their name'- like say their religion being used to excuse barbaric acts?
We saw Muslims march to object to a bunch of CARTOONS so what about a beheading or a bombing?

What happened in Paris is despicable, but get used to it as it will happen with more frequency across all European countries. ISIS say their belief is the only way, anyone who believes anything else is an infidel ie the rest of the world. At present ISIS might just be attacking Muslims who don't believe as they do but if anyone else get included, I don't think they will mind. Al Qaeda seem to go up against anyone who is non Muslim.
Enter the great American war machine, they fought against Al Qaeda and when they were winning up popped ISIS so the great American war machine pulled out a lot of its foot army and went up against ISIS. So Al Qaeda is bigger now than it ever was.
Several million people had to flee from their country into European countries, ISIS see a lot of those people as targets and the countries they went to they are targets for Al Qaeda.
Al Qaeda has been quiet while it has been growing, so soon it will be asserting itself.
So who is next?
America has been trying to provoke China recently.

Well heresies are punished much more severely than pagans/non-believers. It's natural.

For an organization, the closer a different belief system to yours, the more dangerous it is to you. Because it competes with same kind of people/resource against you.

Most religions do that. For example, the Catholic Church was much more hostile to Protestants than people who haven't seen Bible at all, for example the Ming Empire in the 17th century.

React strongly how?
I don't know. Maybe at least some public outcry? Something like @thetopher suggested. But what do we get instead? Silence. I'm waiting for the moment somebody starts saying "islamophobes" to the people mentioning that the terrorists are Islamists.

Judging by what their holy book says, ISIS are the real Muslims. They do as they're told by their god. The Koran actually tells them death to all non-believers and sinners. They are a religiously motivated group of criminal extremists. From ISIS's point of view, these Muslims are not real Muslims. They're sinners just like the rest of the civilized world. They have to join or die.
