Paris Attacks

Hard to do when the bombs are falling. We are lucky enough to have a say in our govt - that's actually kinda rare. In a lot of place people who try to have a say end up hanging from lampposts.

Again, how are things going ever to change then? SOMEONE has to stand up and fight.

Damn - so tragic. How can they not realize that these people are refugees from the same terror that has destroyed their lives?

The one thing I would say is that not all of them are refugees. Some (non Syrians) are using it as a way to get into Europe and I truly believe that some terrorists have played the part of refugees to get into Europe.

The thing is sensible people tend to lash out when put in situations like this and not always in the right direction. You will also have a group of people who will use it as an excuse to cause trouble simply because they enjoy chaos.

It seems that there was an incident at Gatwick today where a French man was held trying to board a plane with two guns, the thought a grenade at one point. No details as to whether this is linked.

Some also think that whilst the Paris attacks have been in the running for a while now they were pushed forward by the apparant death (I say apparant because we don't know if it is confirmed yet) death of 'Jihadi John'.

There is not a single time or place in world history without some form of mass murder going on. I want to believe in change, and it can happen - but it's usually a small regional change. Look at Ireland - since 9/11 there has been virtually no religious violence on a large scale. What changed there is there were voices of peace, but they also saw their future and started listening to those voices.

I don't know this for sure but the only way 9/11 could have helped to stop the IRA campaign against the protestants was that extremism was shoved in the faces of the American people. So much so that they stopped funding the bombings.

That's exactly what happened and the Brits/US know it. 9/11 happened and the US suddenly cracked down hard on ALL terrorist funding that originated in the US. 90% of the IRA's funding disappears within months and suddenly Sinn Fein becomes really anti-American.

After 7/7 a muslim reporter infiltrated Islamic communitys in Birmingham, Bradford and Leeds and found some simply astonishing POV- amongst them the beleif that the 7/7 attacks had been faked to instigate a war on Muslims (despite the fact that the bombers left video's behind after death), that the bombers were right in doing what they were doing, or simple apathy at the violence that had taken place.

I would like to see condemnation because I see a worrying amount of the exact opposite.

The ISIS want to rule all Muslims; and they are so malignant that other terrorist groups are condemning them; so it's time the Muslims go to the streets in masses to show that they do not approve ISIS in any way.

They do and they will - but that doesn't mean it will get any media coverage. There are rallies all across the country each time this happens. But if you are asking for a huge rally, do you really think a huge group of Muslims would be safe all in one place. We already had a gun rally in front of a Phoenix mosque in response to a peaceful Muslim rally. Thankfully that fizzled - there were more protesters the right wingers.

It's been a horrible couple of days. These people are brainwashed and absolutely vile. There are only three possible options with regards to their God logic:

1. There is no God. They're killing innocent people and themselves for nothing.

2. God exists and he finds them repulsive for killing innocent people in his name.

3. God exists and approves of this. Then their God is a ****.

Let's not start pinning this on every Muslim though. Why do they need to be out in the street to distance themselves from these arseholes? Who helped to create ISIS in the first place? Where did the arms and support come from?

If you're not out on the steets protesting Western nations supporting the posionous regime in Saudi Arabia, who have similar morals to ISIS, then there's no reason to expect Muslims to shoulder the responsibility for protest.

The wars and endless bloodshed in the Middle East have two main causes behind them. Money and Religion. The United States and their allies are happy to stoke up the backwards religious morons to unsettle areas for monetary gain. Start voting and protesting against this process and we might one day see less carnage.

Why are some people so religiously intolerant here, why do they think of Muslims and God?

I searched for a quote from the prophet himself and found it:

"O people! I charge you with ten rules; learn them well… for your guidance in the battlefield! Do not commit treachery, or deviate from the right path. You must not mutilate dead bodies. Neither kill a child, nor a woman, nor an aged man. Bring no harm to the trees, nor burn them with fire, especially those which are fruitful. Slay not any of the enemy’s flock, save for your food. You are likely to pass by people who have devoted their lives to monastic services; leave them alone."

Well... ISIS are claiming to be true Islam, wanting to establish a caliphate. If you are a muslim, and think ISIS is the wrong Islam and do not wish to be associated with them, then of course you should distance yourself from them. We have a foreign-hostile party here that claims to be true "Swedes and Swedishness", as I don't agree with them of what their version of this is, I distance myself from them personally and politically, as do many others, to demonstrate that their way is not the only way. If we just sat tacitly by, saying/doing nothing, against people who claim to represent me, that would be tantamount to passive agreement.

ISIS claims to represent muslims, if muslims disagree there's an onus on them to say so. No one else can do it for them. If they want people to see the peace-loving side of Islam, speaking up is imperative. I've studied Islam and islamophobia, I've both read and spoken to and about muslims about various issues of their portrayal in media and the like, but at the end of the day I'm not a muslim, I have no authority to say "hey, ISIS, you guys are wrong! I've read in this book, heard from this person, that Islam is not how you paint it!" Only other muslims can truly take that stand.

Of course one cannot, in practice, do as I've done here which is treat "muslims" as a homogenous mass, which they are not, but distancing the issue from non-ISIS muslims is not realistic. That is not to say of course that muslims are the only ones who should protest, of course not, but they are intimately connected to ISIS through religion, whether they want to be or not.

Also, start voting... honestly, that's a very broad brush to paint with and is suggestive that people havent been voting against carnage before...? I think very few voters in your "US and Allies" group actively wanted anything like this to happen and probably believed they were voting against it, or voting for the best way to manage it in their opinion. The idea of voting as a powerful tool is delightfully charming, and it's not without importance of course, but the political power structures will never be fully swayed by voting, there are far too many players on the scene for it to massively affect the situation in the Middle East by now.

You did see the links I posted on Muslim outcry against the terrorism? They do protest - the media just doesn't show it.
Some people have no sense of humour. I blame it on the prophets with their uncompromising attitude.

That's why i love daoism. Unlike other religions no one who read laozi or chuangzi went on a killing spree in the name of God.

They are talking. Almost everywhere in Twitter and Tumblr there are posts by other Muslims, "I'm Muslim but I am not a terrorist." Everywhere.

And if Muslims did do something public, it doesn't get covered by the west media, like this for example:

Just because this one is a fake doesn't mean it's not happening. I know for a fact lots of Muslim at my school were praying for France after what happened.

I never said it wasn't.. but why show an image thats nearly five years old and make allusions to it being from a day ago.
And if Muslims did do something public, it doesn't get covered by the west media,

I know that, and that is a problem. At my uni we've studied at exhaustive lenght the problematic portrayals of e.g. muslims and how the news media chose and qualify what news to publish. It's a problem that more people should we aware of, though I think that a lot of people already are, because media does help shape our world view.

They only thing one can say is to keep talking. Never stop talking. Never stop trying to show your side. That's what I'm saying. Make people listen to you. Because ISIS isn't going to stop.

Just because this one is a fake doesn't mean it's not happening.
But it only adds to the problem. Just as the people erroneously quoting the Quran 5:32 passage to make it seem like killing is not condoned, when in fact it's the opposite.

But it only adds to the problem. Just as the people erroneously quoting the Quran 5:32 passage to make it seem like killing is not condoned, when in fact it's the opposite.

Is there a bad way to quote something? Just like the Bible, many of the passage are left for interpretation. The passage says:

"Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors."

So basically it does not condone killing, unless it is those of transgressors. But then what is considered transgression in their religion? I admit I don't know. But then again the Bible says it's a sin to eat shrimp. Most people, Muslim or Catholic, understand the context in which the book was written and the context of our own world. To me it's more so the extremists that try to find passages that support their own agendas.
