Record-breaking low temperatures are blanketing parts of the United States. The East Coast and Midwest are pretty much in a deep freeze.

Those of us on the West Coast want our brothers and sisters across the country to know that we hope everything is okay with you....psych!!! No we don't.

As we sit here, drinking our iced coffees and basking in balmy weather, our thoughts are filled with love. Love of ourselves and our amazing, golden state. Occasionally, we'll laugh and point at everyone who lives in the freezer burn areas. We can't help it. It's funny. And your accents are even funnier. 😛

I guess I'm supposed to send good wishes and prayers, but I just can't do it. People buried in snow is always a rib-tickler; especially if they flash freeze while shovelling snow. Oh my God! 😂 I'd really like to see that.

It can't possibly be worse than last year. #ClimateChangeIsaHoax

Well then hope you all get an 11.0 earthquake chased with a deep impact sized tsunami! 😀

Ok just kidding...ok well...mostly 😳

We'll be just fine. 😅 But with all that fracking around you, you guys will probably be the ones to have an earthquake. 😛

Hey, look! You and me playing in the snow. You're on the left. Hehehe. 😘

Okay. I'll remember to think of you when California suffers from more devastating forest fires later this year.

You go right ahead, dude. I was laughing at all that shit burning down. I'm not in those areas...let it burn. Fire pretty. 😈

Okay, you got me :)
We all know why the eastern side of America gets cyclones/ hurricanes, big circular storms that wreak destruction up and down the coast. Kids cause a rotational column of sand in Africa that escalates as it goes to the USA.
Nothing to do with a President who says there is no such thing as the climate control problems, while several dumb wallies in congress tell scientists to control the weather. Now the cold snaps are getting worse.
The fires on the west coast are getting more intense each year, and every year it doesn't happen is one year closer to when it does; Yellowstone or the Ring of Fire, the San Andreas Fault is a small part of the Ring of Fire.

Now they are predicting heavy rains and flooding for Queensland and a cyclone watch is current. UK is having snow storms that are apparently larger than normal.
And now it seems that the Arctic Polar has a storm about to move in north east America with the current cold snap warning are in place for people not to go outside in temps of -50. According to some people on this site that happens almost every year.

No - it really isn't. Please don't believe everything you read in the British press. This from the Met Office:

Areas of rain and snow are expected to move into the UK from the southwest from Thursday and through Friday. Any single period of rain and snow is not expected to last more than 6 to 9 hours but some snow accumulations are likely with 1-3 cm likely in places within the warning area and the potential for 5-10 cm, perhaps particularly over Wales and southwest England. Snow amounts will vary markedly across England and Wales with many places seeing very little accumulating snow. With cold air in place along with areas of rain and snow icy stretches are likely to form.

-3 forecast here (that's night-time) -6 Windchill.

The news was on the ABC TV News on in a British newspaper
All we know down under is what we see on the news. We've had record breaking heat and dry here so it seems the whole world is in chaos.

I saw on the news that busses are going about picking up homeless people so they dont freeze. That made me happy. You guys obviously care more about your citizens than oz does, we have busses to take the homeless out of the cities and into the bush where they dont even have water in temps reaching near 50C. Defo feel like I am on the arse end of the world today.

Say safe ya frosties. I hope you dont get blackouts like us here from everyone using climate controlled homes!

Yes and no - it's a mixed picture. Some areas do collect the homeless but some areas drive them out. Other areas arrest them and thus criminalize them. I was in Liverpool a week ago and they were handing out sleeping bags. It doesn't matter what they do - the fact remains that, unless it's an active choice, people shouldn't BE homeless. The situation in the UK (at least in England. Scotland, NI and Wales may be more enlightened) with regards to social housing is an abomination.

Yeah its in crisis here too, no home - no welfare.
@Spanky - Sigh - I couldn't watch Old Yeller again and I've never managed to watch Marley & Me. 🙁

You and me both. 😀 The reason I didn't take time to comment was - I'm at work.

And that's exactly why I didn't post the link to the article. I know some people would have been triggered. If it affected me and I DGAF about a lot of things, then I know some of the more sensitive people here would probably be all in tears and what not.

It's times like these where I feel really grateful to live in a temprate climate. I live in Western Washington State. It's 36 now, which is cold for us. It rarely gets under 40.

I grew up in Chicago, and hope my friends and family there are staying warm! Quite a few people I know are without hot water because their pipes froze and burst.

@ILLYRIAN "The news was on the ABC TV News on in a British newspaper"

This is a place called Moscow - but it's Moscow, Ayrshire in Scotland. The caption underneath says "it looks rather like its Russian counterpart". Really...Really?! The snow hasn't covered the grass and you can still see the road markings FGS! I bet the Russians are laughing their socks off! It's an English newspaper so I'm guessing the Scot's themselves are having a wry smile and taking it all in their stride (looks to me as though the tractor driver hasn't even bothered to get his "big coat" out of the wardrobe!). The panic is because it's snowing in London and London isn't used to it. It's from here: UK weather: Icebox Britain braces for three inches of snow in two hours | Daily Mail Online

Look at what they have to say in the comments.
