Passion Episode Discussion

I agree, Passion is one of the most powerful episodes over the whole entire series. I agree whole-heartedly with Angelus' speech about passion. And while I miss Jenny very much, we needed something to show us what a cruel monster he is, and how much he likes it. Passion is my fave episode of season 2, I like getting my friends hooked on Buffy, and I have been successful with every single person I have tried, and the way I do it, is I show them this episode, Passion. It gets them hooked every time. Its just so well written, and it really grabs you by the heart. Its episodes like these, that make good television.
 
this is my favourite episode in season 2. This episode had such meaning and life to it... that poem is really meaningful and it makes the episode! ... and the fact that jenny calender died added that extra tension :bluecry: poor jenny and i felt sorry for giles. but it is truly the best episode in season 2
 
I think this episode was one of the best out of the entire series! I know it's one of my favorites! I remember watching it and just kind of sitting there in aw. It took you down an emotional rollercoaster. So much emotion in this episode. Jenny dying. Giles finding her body. Angel stalking Buffy, Joyce, and Willow. When Giles calls to say Jenny's dead. Giles breaking down in the alley when the factory is on fire. It was a great episode to really connect with the audience and make them feel the situation, and see it at the same time.
 
I would have to agree with the bit about taking you on an emotional rollercoaster! You've got fear, sadness, devastation and hope rolled into one great episode, and it's a nice ending for Buffy, knowing that she'll realise Jenny was going to make it up to her.
It just ripped my heart out when Giles found Jenny's body on his bed though.
 
i thought this episode was fab. It was the fiorst time we saw how terrible the real angelus was i think, he was phychotic but smart, he knew how to get to people and where he could hurt them most, and as buffy's ex what better way to get to her than the way he got her as angel, through passion- the way he killed Jenny was awful, it was sad. And i do think that what he says is true, it is what drives everyone, if people didn't want to be with someone else and have a relationship (which is what they are passionate about, finding and having the thing they seek the most, love, or lust) then why would we even wash??? we just wouldn't-lol kidding on, but you know what i mean, you wouldn't care if you looked good, or what your hair was like or if you had the right outfit for a night out, its all about trying to attract what you want.
 
It was an amazing ep the cast all portrayed the grief of losing Jenny really well.

I love that episode so much! Properly my favorite of all Buffy episodes!! It's so strong, emotional and beautiful. There's so many great scenes, for an example the scene where Jenny dies, the scene where Giles finds Jenny in the bed, and the one where Giles calles Buffy and Willow and tell them what happened, and the one on the graveyard. I also love Angel's passion speak. I agree with some of it, but I think they exaggerate a little. I mean: Passion is the ecstasy of grief and without passion we'd be dead? But otherwise a fantastic episode. I love it so much!! Really. It is just everything and that is a episode that really proves why Buffy is such a great show.
 
Passion has to be one of the best episodes of Buffy ever and its only looking back on the whole of Season Two as a whole and then the following on of the Buffy/Angel storyline that you see how important this episode is.

There are 2 scenes in the whole episode that stand out to me and show just how much Buffy has changed after what has happened and how she is almost ready to kill Angel once and for all... which obviously by the end of the episode the guns are blazing after Jenny's death.

However these two scenes are firstly when Angel is acting like the crazy ex-boyfriend that he is, Joyce finds out that they made love and then Buffy.. in true Buffy style says 'Sorry Angel, we changed the locks' before slamming the door in his face and then the scene where Buffy finds out Jenny has died... she blames herself still for Angel- you can see it when she is on the floor.

These two scenes, the first showing a new determination... the second showing her vunerability... which is when Angel (the enemy) is watching... are I think, the turning point for Buffy as a character at the end of Season Two... so yeh.. great episode and I think that seems to be everyones opinion.
 
passion was my fav episode. i liked jenny and giles together... he was happy. the part when angel is narrating is beautiful. but i really loved this part:
buffy: i'm sorry i couldn´t kill him for you...for her.. when i had the chance. i wasn't ready, but i think i finally am. angel's gone... nothing ever gonna bring him back!
 
This is the episode we learn that Angel can draw really well. Didn't think much of it at the time when I first watched it but when Angel drew something again after he was on his own show, it reminded me it had been mentioned before.

This had a brief appearance by Jonathan, a character I never thought twice about before watching season 6.

I know Willow was engrossed in her phone conversation but I would think a person would notice the lack of fish in the tank while sprinkling in the fish food, before turning to see the envelope on the bed -- especially if she was supposed to have that many fish. :fish:

Drusilla named the puppy "Sunshine" which is my mother's nickname. :sun: Don't get me started on that... moving on...

I suppose I understand Jenny not wanting to get Buffy's hopes up about trying to restore Angel's soul, in case she's wrong but I thought it was stupid of her not to tell Giles. Yes, she technically did get it figured out right before she was killed but when she first started doing it, who knows if Giles might have been able to help her figure it out faster.

They did a de-invitation spell on Cordelia's car, Willow's house and Buffy's house. Why didn't they immediately then go do the spell on Giles' house? More importantly in my mind, how was Angelus able to get into Giles' house? I don't remember him being invited in. :: vampire

When Buffy and the others go to his apartment to console Giles, when they enter, behind them looks like an apartment's hallway outside the front door but in season 4 we see that his front door leads directly outside. Did they ever mention Gile's moving to a different place to live or is this some kind of error?

this was one of my fav. eppys of s2. I think it was so well written and it showed alot of character on everyones part, and just the detail in this eppy rocked, plus it had a bit of saddness in it when jenny died.It shows how obbsessive Angelus is, how he stalks buffy and everything, plus when giles finds jenny its a real tearjerker, i felt so bad for him.

He and another girl came into the library to get some books on, er... Stalin...? (I think...) while the scoobies are having a meeting... Jonathan walks behind some bookshelves and they all (Buffy, Xander, Cordelia, Giles) leave the room. Jonathon comes back out and they're all gone... I found that funny after watching the 6th season and coming back to this episode.

I noticed that this thread is almost two years old! But anyway, I watched this episode in its entirety last night. It is excellent. It hurt a lot the first time when Angel killed Jenny, it made me not want to see this episode again for a long while. I'd forgotten that business about Willow and her poor fish. And I have to imagine that Buffy would have had remorse for not forgiving Jenny before she died.

This time I noticed particularly what happens with Buffy and her mom, and the scene where Angel comes up to Joyce at night when she gets home, telling her how much he needs her daughter, Joyce spilling her groceries. You sit there thinking he might do something really dreadful like kill her in front of Buffy, but in the end he just winds up telling her that he and Buffy slept together, which gets Buffy in big trouble.

The business of Angel's harassing of Buffy, his stalking her at her house, and Joyce's getting upset at her daughter, their having the "talk" - strip away the supernatural features and you recognize a story of young passion and poor judgment that could have been a plot for a coming-of-age show like "90210" or "Dawson's Creek". But this show being what it was managed to do a story much larger than that.
 
I loved this episode. True the voiceover was very creepy, but there is a lot of truth in it, and everything that the episode represents(loss of the remnants of Angel's soul, and Angel himself really, as Angelus kills the only person who could bring him back)

And its so cruel in the way Angelus does it, it really makes you realize that a soul really can make a lot of difference, but it also made me see that Angel with his soul was really only Angelus being held back. And once that soul was taken from him, there was nothing that kept Angelus from killing again.

It also shows you how Angelus kills, because he doesn't even feed off of Jenny, he does it for pleasure and not for nessecity.

Yes, it was like a personal slight to Jenny in death that he should have killed her without eating her.

Very interesting. Comment about Angel Season 4:

Much later in the Whedonverse, in Angel Season 4, in the mid-season episodes "Awakening" through "Orpheus" they explore in depth the whole Angel/Angelus duality, what role his soul plays.

on the dvd Joss said that he had Angel snap her neck because he wanted to make it absolutely clear that Jenny was dead and could not come back. alot of people in the show that are bitten don't die or come back as vamps. Joss wanted it known that Jenny was gone for good, hence the neck snapping and no feeding.
 
i loved this episode. Angelus proved that he is possible the best villain in the jossverse here, and it really cements the fact that Angel is gone at this point. Jenny's death was one of the saddest in the show, and i felt bad for giles.
 
Definately an awesome ep. The whole narration was really well done and really struck home for me (especially the whole, "without passion we would truly be dead" thing).

In my opinion, Angelus at his bad-ass finest.
