Trivia:

- Cordelia says that she invited Angel into her car once. That probably happened when they left the library after Cordelia found the arm in the dumpster in "Some Assembly Required."

- Willow's father is named Ira. He is apparently a very religious Jew.

- The last words of the incantation which revokes an invitation to the undead are "Hicce verbis consensus rescissus est," which translates into English roughly as "By these words permission is rescinded."

- On the piece of music that starts as Buffy hugs Giles in front of the burning factory and carries over into the scene at Ms. Calendar's grave, the vocals are provided by Anthony Stewart Head.

Goofs:

- Jenny Calendar asks Angelus how he managed to get into the school without being invited, when she's seen him in the school before without asking the same question. (School is a public building)

- A Charlie Brown Christmas was the very first animated prime-time special to feature Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the characters from Charles Schultz's comic strip Peanuts. First broadcast on December 9, 1965, it has become a perennial favorite, shown every year on television around Christmas time. It also featured the debut of "the Snoopy dance."

- The opera playing in that fateful scene when Giles returns home is La Bohème, the perennial favorite by Giacomo Puccini.

- "...I say, 'Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!'" In the 1960's, the king of scandalous, trashy, decadent movies filled with violence and scantily-clad, large-breasted women was Russ Meyer.

This episode is so sad, thinking about it makes me tear up.
I LOVE this episode though.
It's one of the many reasons Season 2 is my favorite.

The death of Jenny really stunned me when I first saw it.

You just didn't kill regular, established characters in such a brutal fashion like that.

It was a mindblowing moment. All of a sudden, no-one was safe. Anyone could die.

Edgy stuff for a primetime TV show at the time.

Of course now, pretty much all TV shows have central, popular characters being killed every week lol (looking at YOU 24).

But it wasn't just the death of Jenny. It really seemed to be the end of Angel and Buffy. There was no way back for them now.

He had to die after that. And she had to be the one to do it.

The scene when Giles finds Jenny is one of my favourite scenes in the show.
Probably the saddest as well. I didn't care about Jenny, but I felt so bad for Giles.

I found a translation of La Bohème, opera that is playing when Giles comes home and finds Jenny dead on the bed. Here is the part we hear, which is from Act One:

When Giles walk up the stairs:

O soave fanciulla, o dolce viso Oh! lovely girl! Oh, sweet face
Di mite circonfuso alba lunar, bathed in the soft moonlight.
In te ravviso il sogno I see in you the dream
Ch'io vorrei sempre sognar! I'd dream forever!

And when he finds her dead:

I think this song was perfect, because of it this heartbreaking scene is more intense, or maybe that's because of Italian 🙂
