Just in time for Halloween, Nicolas Cage brings us a new horror movie. As is the case with many of the recent Cage films, unsure at the moment what will be the scariest part- acting, dialog or the movie itself.

Oscar winner Nicolas Cage stars in this intense and chilling thriller about one man’s desperate search for his missing child.

One year after his young son disappeared during a Halloween carnival, Mike Cole is haunted by eerie images and terrifying messages he can’t explain. Together with his estranged wife, he will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery and find their son—and, in doing so, he unearths a legend that refuses to remain buried in the past.

A few moments of the trailer didnt look bad, but the rest looked pretty much recycled.

I'm gonna say the acting.

I like (well, not like) the idea - missing children, because to me that is really, really relevant in this present time. The number of missing children across the globe is staggering, and constantly increasing. There's a lot of information out there that points to missing children being snatched and falling victim to child sex trafficking for paedophile rings. I mean, that is astounding. The creation of the internet has helped these people to groom and coerce the young, and even help them to "select" the ones they want, but then on the other hand the internet and social media has also proved useful to help find missing children using broadly shared appeals. Never many, though.

A film with the idea of the boogieman stealing children, the subtext is what is scariest to me. Especially when so many children are never found.

The only other thing I know the director from is from directing an episode of Oz. Now that's scary.

Nicolas Cage is the perfect example of an actor who's only ever good when he's got a good director working with him and reigning him in, otherwise he's...well, actually he's still really entertaining, just in a different way.
One of the best spoof horror movies I've ever seen? The Wicker Man remake. 'Oh god, the bees...!' 🙂

So this might actually be one of those funny comedies even though the subject matter (child abduction) is really inappropriate. Also the set-up is hardly original but maybe I'll check it out anyway.

Cage is certainly an actor who will go that extra mile. I remember him actually eating a live cock roach in "Vampire's Kiss," not once, but three times before the director was satisfied with the scene. That's dedication to one's art!
