My friend is the same way. In fact thru the years they've given even me stamps they thought I would like just in case. Which are coming in handy now 😏
 
I'm struggling to think of what I would write in a letter but I guess since I wouldn't get to talk to them often I'd mainly be updating them on my life and stuff.

Not really, I send letters to people I talk to everyday! Okay my letters are more of a ramble, but once I start it's quite easy to fill a page!

Yeah the kids magazines were a little like forums before the net! I used to love reading the back page of the tv guide with "your view" and "letters to the editor" in the newspaper too 😄

We had a penpal program in my primary school, writing to new migrants who were learning English. Then we got a BBQ/fun day with them when they graduated their English class (every 12 weeks or so). I like to think it was fun for them too. An easy stressless way to learn to interact with rascal aussies.

They don't really sell postage stamps at my post office, the envelopes come with the stamp printed on, or they stick stamps on behind the counter so I cant pick. They probably do still have a variety at bigger post offices but ours is tiny and more of a social hub than place of business. It would be a great business to have though, you'd never go out of it here!
 
Had one as a kid and I have a box of memories that still holds one of their letters. I always forget until I go through it again, reread it, and am filled with nostalgic joy 😀
 
I have had a few over the years. It's fun waiting to see what's next but with tech these days it takes the fun out of letters a bit as you already know most stuff about people. Unless they are very un social mediaery.... lol...

I'd love a pen pal again though
 
It takes commitment to post and send regularly. RIP to my last penpal as a child that I never replied to.

And money, I don't post as often internationally now because of the cost, I tend to wait until I have something to send with it.
Uk wise I do post quite frequently as I buy a sheet of special stamps directly from Royal Mail and then it makes the post a little more special too.
 
Yeah the last one I sent cost $43! Its fun to do, but online messages are much cheaper.

You're right! It is cheaper. But I definitely would send something to a friend overseas if only once. The last postcard I received was from Portugal and it was amazing! :) <3
I used to have pen pals - and as a matter of fact, one of my pen pals was a Buffy fan that I met online. She even came to visit! If you're reading this and that's you, I'm sorry we drifted apart old friend. Anyhoo... I miss those days. I miss just being able to write even the shortest of letters and drawing a little something for a friend and sending it off. It was the best feeling to receive a note, too!

All the overseas people I write to are from here! Apart from my sponsored child, which doesn't really count as a pen pal, and no stamps required there.

-Penpals are also good for collecting stamps, especially if in a different country. Some rare ones can be sold for a lot.

That's true I have saved a few stamps from people, not to sell just as they were different and pretty. Postcards as well from people when they've gone somewhere different.
 
Postcards are great! Pretty to hang up and cheaper to send! I have a few on my fridge.
