I've spent hours on this site, laughing, avoiding doing homework, but then I come across something so... ignorant? Evil? Dumb?

Am I the only one who can relate to this girl and who doesn't find it hilarious, like the poster did, and according to the tags at the bottom, a lot of other people did too? Even people who weren't bullied in school, or hard a hard time in school otherwise, got to notice that this girl is really sad. I even see a stain to the left, which I assume is from a tear drop.

Anyone else who sometime find themselves suprised at people's attitudes? I mean, it is internet, you must have come across some sort of insane people, wherther it be youtube comments threatening the maker of videos, people posting up-the-skirt photos...
 
Regardless of wether it's real or fake, it's really sad. For some kids feel like that. Even when they are seven and shouldn't need to think about the big stuff yet.
 
Oh, wow. Real or fake, that was so sad. Children should never have to feel that way.

Every day. In a weird way, I'm glad I'm surprised. It makes me feel like we're supposed to expect better than this, that deep down, we know these heinous attitudes are never acceptable no matter how frequently we're exposed to them. Sometimes I think we lose sight of that (I know I sometimes do) and we're more likely to shrug things off than to call them out.

No, I'm not surprised. But everytime I see things like this or youtube comments or whatever I think I die a little inside. So good thing I don't read many youtube comments at least.

As for people's behavior I don't have to go far. This board or it's members to be exact. I love this place and it's the friendliest place I've ever seen online. The admin and staff can never get enough credit. Yet there's too much I see and have seen that I sure wish I hadn't.

As for the letter I don't see what's funny about it if it's a fake. But I don't always agree with everyone what's funny so maybe someone can tell me. If it's real then it raises a lot of questions. None of them funny in the slightest.

Mr. Negativity leaves and someone else steps in.

But lets not forget all the awesom people around the world that do good. Small or huge. Humankind isn't doomed. Just need a lot of repairing.

As a parent who has had to deal first-hand with a very sad, very depressed little girl who has felt like she had no other choice but to run away to escape bullies at her school, this broke my heart. I literally sat here and cried, and yes I noticed the tear stain on the paper, too.
This is not funny in any shape, way, or form. Yes, it's cute when our kids write us letters and we giggle as misspelled words and handwriting, but it's NOT funny to think that a child is that upset that they would rather leave their family who loves them because someone is making them feel so bad about their life. 🙁
I hope this little girl got some help.
 
I know why it was meant to be funny, but it's really not. It's sad, I work with children who come from very mixed up, challenging backgrounds, and it's really not something to laugh at, especially without knowing the background and context of the note.
 
It's a bit jarring that a little girl was mature enough to make the conscious decision, "OK, I hate my life, I need to run away and get a new one, I'll ask my mommy for help." Like, she didn't just run away to a playground on a whim, she was planning it out. That's so crazy.

And it's the same thing to me when parents or adults laugh at children who are scared. Like if a little girl or boy is afraid of a stuffed animal, yea, it's funny I guess because there is obviously nothing to be afraid of, but the kid doesn't understand that. The kid doesn't get that it's just a stuffed animal, he/she is experiencing real fear. Why make fun of that?
 
That is just sick I seriously don't understand people sometimes. There is a line and they obviously don't see it.
 
My sister "ran away" when she was 5. It was funny (trust me). She packed a suitcase, went to the neighbors, watched the Donny and Marie Show for a few, and was back in 5 minutes

This letter is not funny. By the language used, I think it's clearly a fake. And that makes it more disturbing.

I'm not really surprised. The net is an amazing thing, but it's also a wild, wild place. There isn't really an internet authority, or a general admin or something like that. And, on the net, people are behind a screen, they can hide. I used to think it was stupid to say "People who hide behind their screen blablabla", but it actually isn't. Because the internet is not an under control place, it happens that people just unleash their inner wild.
If you are in the street and you call someone a twat, you might be punched in the face, or the insulted person might get really pissed and things can get ugly, for you idiot who randomly insulted someone.
Now do the same on the net...What can possibly happen to you? Have a nasty reply comment? You can ignore it, and never look back. Pshu. It was random, and it's quickly over. The whole notion of responsability doesn't really exist on the net. Sure, you can be tracked with your IP adress but that's for worst things, like harassement and such. On the net, most of the time, you just don't have to face the consequences of what you say. It just makes it easier to act like a jerk if you want to. So seriously, nothing really surprises me on the net. It disgust me sometimes to read what people can write, it can shock me but I'm just not surprised.

The only time I really thought "Oh my gosh, don't people know what lines not to cross? 😱" was this summer. There was that girl who was, I don't 8? I think her name was Jessica, or Jenny. Granted, in her video she was being a pretentious obnoxious brat. But people went totally crazy on her. They posted her video on a website which is, if I remember well, a semi-porn site. She received death threats. People somehow managed to have her phone number and started calling to her house. She had to be put under police protection.
That was just the one thing too far. Post comments to tell the girl to get a life, okay (even tough, seriously don't you have anything better to do than posting that kind of comment?). But starting cyberbullying a young girl and push it to real life harassement? That was just...Wow. Scary as hell.

(Oh, I found her name back, it's the Jessi Slaughter case. She really was annoying, but come on, the harassement was just too trash!)
 
That was not funny, it was very sad. I felt that way when I was little so I did "run away". The farthest I got was to the backyard and I stayied outside with the dog for a few hours, but then I got bored and came "home".
 
As someone who wrote a very similar note once as a child...it's great that everyone feels bad for this child but let's take it with a grain of salt. Having a bad day at school can just as easily mean they didn't get the candy bar they wanted in their lunch bag. Just saying, unpopular as it may be, that not everything that makes a kid upset is a life and death issue nor does this note mean the kid actually has a poor home and/or school life.

True, but since I can't ignore that it can be very serious, I don't get people who can laugh at it.
I hate the reply I left at the site. I got very personal. I couldn't erase the comment, so I wrote a sort of apology. I doubt the poster will ever read it, but I hate myself for becoming that person who feels like she has the right to be mean to mean people. That just makes me a mean person as well.

I just hate that I've become so jaded, so used to internet's backside that I called someone a monster instead of trying to reason with them and show my point of view.
