Ok, I'm gonna talk about something that upset me very much ::rm:: : people not taking time to go to vote. I find it such a pity when I hear that people don't care.
For America particulary (sorry but you guys got the highest figures about people not voting) I find it so odd : How can you all be so patriotic, which means that you care about your country, & not going to vote (which means that you don't give a hell)? I need to be explain this part because I don't understand how you can act that way.

So now, a little reminder : for centuries, people fought & died to have the right to vote. Still nowadays, many people don't have this luck. Dictatures, authoritary regim, such things... not far from where you live, people have no rights. So YOU, who live in a free country (& now I'm not talking only to americans but to everyone) & who have this right, YOU SHOULD take it, because it's also a duty !!!
It really pisses me to see how people take everything for granted nowadays, don't go to vote & then complain about the government.
Don't wait for a disaster to react & finally vote !
For instance, in here, France, (& I think most of people heard about it, I have to tell I feel so ashame for my country about what happened) a damn racist won a place in the second round of election for presidential JUST because so many people, & particulary young people didn't bother to vote. I mean HELL !!! This guy is close to Hilter somehow!
People waited him to win the 1st round before reacting : this shouldn't have ever happened !!!

So now people, I don't know if I'm posting this too late for election in US but at least I tell it for everyone : go to vote !!!
& don't take for excuse that your not into politics or such thing, because I AM NOT INTO POLITICS at all. I don't understand most of things in politics, & I really don't care to tell the true, I know that it's mostly fake promise they are telling.
But as citizen, & since I'm lucky enough to be born in a free country, IT IS MY DUTY to care at least a bit & to do this act of voting.
SO GO TO VOTE !!!

And ok, these are only my convictions for the little I know about it, but when I see the last figures about Bush vs Kerry, I shiver. Not again, damn. please, read this, I didn't write it, an american wrote it, but it's so true, give a check, it's worth to :

Frenchy you make some intresting points, but the problem is we're not all in the same position. here in britain, we're between a rock and hard place. you can vote right wing or very right wing.

many people dont vote simply because theres knowone to vote for.

besides its the system thats screwed not the head.

From England here so its a bit different. The next election will be the first one I can vote for and I may not vote simply because I dont want any of the current "parties" to be in charge (but I know we cant have nobody). There was rumours they may include "nobody" boxes on the next vote but then they'd be like "okay" and just do nothing with it.

I gotta agree with you. (Even though im not old enough to vote). Tou hear people moaning that things aren't being sorted out properly and than they think a particular party should have won, or the current party isn't doing a good job but they aren't doing anything about it they just sit back and watch.

You have a very good point!...I've told a few of my friends the same things. The way I feel, if you don't vote, you have no right what so ever to sit there & complain about who's in office, or what is or isn't being done.....i however, did not vote for Bush last election, & will not this time around, but still run into the problem that Carrey really isn't a good pick either. I don't want to see either one in office.

if your not going to vote you might as well just vote for the green party or somone like that. (as long as its not the BNP)

i might vote Monster Raving Looney Party!

how cool would it be to have a Cat PM?

I'm too young to vote, but I would vote if I was old enough.
I think the reason why some people don't vote, not most, cos most people are probably too lazy. Sometimes it's hard to know who is the least idiot of all the idiots to vote for.

i don't think patriotism is necessarly a bad thing..untill a certain poit...as always there's limits for what's healty or not..
her in Portugal, we had today a holyday (25 April) that was when the militaries forces knocked over a dictatorship..and 30years after our current leaders defend that after that occurred an great evolution..but i ear everyday from old folks that even w/dictatorship thigs like reforms and pensions, salaries, finding a job, etc.. w/ better than now...this was a long example, but was just to make my poit, that youg people don't know were to turn.. my genneration has no motivation what so ever to go and vote..when we finnished college or highschool we will probably have no job, or better a 1year contract that we work as slaves for a sh*t sallary and after the contract is over we will be fired..
every day on the news we ear something like gas, gasoline, water, houses, taxes, and even bread is getting more expensive, and pensions and all the things i already said are getting smaller..
i only can legally vote this year, but honestly i don't know who to vote..i can vothe in the left partys that can only win if a duck got teeth..the middle party that are a sellots, who coligates to whoever is in the power..the left-center ones who done absolutl nothing while they were in power for 10years..or the F*cking jack*sses right wing party... who are screwing everything for my generation (even gotten more exams and harder and more expansive to go to college) and do everything Bush tells them to so...
sorry bout the long post but i was just trying to demosntrate the kind of motivation of the future voters of my country have, when they discover they would probably hae to work one year or more coz our parents can afford college, even w/ all the sacrifices they've make all life, because those f*cking jerks politics want to just ritch kids to get education, and the rest of us to work as a slaves for them.. ::rm::

A good debate Frenchy.

It is my opinion that if people can't be bothered to get off their butts and go to the polling booth they don't have the right to complain about their government. Even if you just go to spoil your ballot paper because there are no credible alternatives you should register and go anyway.

As Faldor says, at the moment in the UK and the US it's a choice between right wing and very right wing but there are some decent and honest politicians out there (that's a contradiction I know😉). Search them out, ask them questions, if enough people do things might change...I speak as a very disillusioned Labour party supporter - Blair and his cronies have ripped the heart out of the party I have supported since I could vote and it sickens me but in a democracy the only way to get through to these people is to hit them in the ballot box. Any other way leads to terrorism and more 9/11's and I don't think any sane people should want that...

Don't you have blank vote? I mean, it might appear not very useful, but it's a way to show that you reject both party.
I'm not sure you have that there but here we have it & I think to vote blank is way better than not go to vote. At least you show you care.

lmao Faldor, I would join this party if it existed !!!

Yeah mire, I got the point about not knowing who to vote for, but if in the first place for the not very important election, everyone went to vote, then maybe the "good" ppl could be there when it election for presidential.

Of course, I know that's not always easiy to know who to vote for & all, lol, but I just needed to ::fire:: to make ppl go to vote, lol & to say how important it is.
Not sure it's effective but at least I try, lol.
