Personal associations with music

I was just listening to an album on my mp3 player called "Nightfall".Its soft,sleepy piano music ( I'm kinda tired ok😛) and all I could think of when I listened to it was when I was around 2 and listened to it every night before I went to bed.It inspired me to make this thread!
anyone have any personal associations with music?

If you listen to the lyrics from the smiths- how soon is now and read the thread girl trouble they realate. Also any Nirvana songs remind me of a few years back when I was despressed.

There's this German band, 'Tic Tac Toe' and back in the days when I still went to elementary school and lived in Essen (a pretty big city) I used to listen to their music a lot. Funnily enough this band split up right around the time I moved to where I live now, so I always associate.

Ohhh, and there's of course '2 become 1' (Spice Girls) which most of you probably know. And hearing this song I always get reminded of my neighbour from across the street where I lived in Essen and me dancing in front of the mirror to this son when we were 7, lol.

Now that I think about it, there are tons of songs I associate something personal with, but these two are probably the most important ones.

well "Wonderful Tonite" by Eric Clapton was the first song my husband and I ever danced to and more appropiatly the song we danced to at our wedding. It is a song that we dance to and will think of eachother whenever we hear it.

There is of course I song that was playing when I lost my virginity that I will always blush to when I hear now. Thank God it isnt very popular but..."Music" by Madonna. I know I know SOOOOOO romantic right?

There is a song by Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill that I will forever associate my ex-boyfriend Nathan with because it was "Our Song"

I will always associate "With arms wide open" by Creed with my friend Brandon who was obsessed with that song and would play and sing it consantly.

"Held" by Natalie Grant will move me more than most songs because of its meaning and what it met to my best friend Heather who passed nearly two years ago suddenly as it was played at her memorial as her favorite, and the meaning expressed.

My Mother used to sing me "The Pebble Dare" song to get me to sleep when I was a child and I will always associate that with her exclusively.

There are songs that are particulary important to me because they "spoke" to me. Usually they were about things I could relate to. "Perfect" by Alanis used to make me cry because thats how I felt in relation to my parents.

so yeah just a few. Good question though. 🙂

'I'll be missing you' by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans always always reminds me of my summer holidays as a child, staying in a caravan in Ballyheigh Co. Kerry! LOL...it was the song of the summer!

'The Streets of New York' by the Wolfe Tones reminds me of my cousin Darren. Anytime we have a sing song (which is alot!) that is always his song of choice.

'Fairytale of New York' by the Pogues...the first time I hear that on the radio lets me know it's Christmas! As far as I am concerned Christmas doesn't start until I hear it.

'Call on me' will forever remind me of my friend Craig..he had a little dance too it..hehe

Just to toss in a "blast from the past" answer, I was always influenced by my mother, who was a great jazz and blues fan. Anything by Peggy Lee or Louis Armstrong, or any of the old crooners, Frank, Dean, or Tomy in particular, are my favorites. Of course, if I really want to get my blood stirring, "Remember The Alamo" always does it, because I've always been obsessed with that battle.

Oh I have some hilarious music associations.

If I ever hear 'Bat Outta Hell' by Meatloaf, I'm instantly 9yrs old, rocking out with my dad in the car on the way to my iceskating lessons. I blame him entirely for my taste in corny old rock.

Also, 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' by Witney Houston. I'm about 3 or 4, and my mum is cleaning the house dancing and singing to it at the top of her voice, and I'm copying her with my very own feather duster!! [Funny how I hate cleaning now- it was my favourite game when I was a kid].

Finally, 'Thriller'- Michael Jackson. I'm 6, it's Halloween, my brother is in looking after me, so he turns off the lights, plays this song then chases me round the house- I swear I soiled myself that night!

My friend and I pick out a song every single summer and that is our "theme song" for the year. Any time I hear any of them they remind me of her. They include Big Balls-ACDC; The Distance-Cake; Bohemian Rhapsody-Queen; that one song that Nelly and Kelly Rowland did along time ago...quite a few more that I can't think of...

We had a few songs when I was growing up that my mom made up for us...just silly little songs we would sing all the time (here's some)

McDonald's is the kind of place
where they put ketchup up your nose
french fries between your toes...
Mustard in your ears
Mayonase (spelling?) in your pants
Which makes you do the boogie dance!

And then we had one for bath time. We'd get pens and draw flowers on our feet and my mom would sing to us...
I have a flower on my toe
It is not real, it does not grow
It is just a tatoo of a flower
So I'll look neat while taking a shower!

Those were my silly kid songs, we still sing the McDonalds one sometimes, just cause it's silly and fun!

Metallica's Nothing Else Matters. Just one of those actual romantic moments in time. You really had to be there to understand, but then if you were, it might be less romantic and more ew factor. Also, Fagot by KoRn, for all the crap I got in high school for coming out as a bi sexual. Stupid redneck idiots...

Everything by the S Club 7 reminds me of the 90's!!! I miss the 90's so much!!!!!!! They were my guilty pleasure!! LOL!!

Um yes I had a mixed tape that I would listen to every night before going to bed when I was in High School. This was in the 80s. So a sampling of my sweet mix tape:

yeahhh you get hte idea. Anyways every time I hear these songs I think of falling asleep in my room, in a house with both of my parents in it, thinking about my friends and school, and I think to myself BOY did I have it easy then!!!
