Persuading new fans

Today I persuaded my friend to start watching Buffy, and she loves it. I'm pretty proud of myself for creating a new fan. 🙂

Have you ever persuaded anyone to watch the shows?
 
My husband and my step brother and one of my friends have all fallen victim to my persuasive powers.
I'm currently working on another friend of mine. She keeps looking at all the fanart I'm doing and she's like . . . "hmm, that does look interesting."

And I say . .. "Oh yeah?"

I'm trying to be subtle. 😀
 
I persuaded my best buddy to get into Buffy.

I started randomly talking about it and she wondered what I was talking about.

I told her and she wanted to see an episode, so I showed her Once More, with Feeling, she loved it, and after that she kept asking questions, but I kept telling her to watch and find out.

She's working on watching the show now.

It made me feel proud 😛
 
I'm working on my friend Jenny... and this is a little bit of a story actually.

I was sleeping over at her house and we were doing a youtube marathon... specifically watching "A Very Potter Musical" and MLP: Friendship is Magic (which I'm also trying to persuade her to watch). Somehow, the topic of my gayness came up, and she was trying to come to terms with how gay I am. To do this she asked if there were any male celebrities I would go for, and I promptly responded "James Marsters."

And she had no clue who he was.

So I pulled up another tab on her laptop and google imaged "spike buffy." And she thought he looked kind of old. And so I had to show her it didn't matter, he was awesome. So I pulled up this "best of spike" video on youtube. And it... wait for it... DIDN'T HAVE "Out... for... a... walk... bitch." So then I was all inventive and instead of trying to find another video with just that, made her watch the Buffy Season 5 trailer that really cool guy made.

And then she said, "I think Tom Felton is hotter."

And I said, "I think they're both gonna be at DragonCon, so you know what, whatever."

It didn't have "out for a walk bitch"???? But... But... But... That's in like EVERY "best of Spike" video.

That's an awesome story, and I love that scene! 😛 You should show her this.

Yes I talked my mom and friend into it. It was easy once it got going. They are both huge fans of the verse especially Angel which is a plus for me. I also feel I was very nice since I got all the episodes for my friend, small price to talk Buffyverse.
 
Umm, just my mom. I used to talk about Buffy with friends when I was in school, but they didn't become fans. They just tolerated me.
 
My friends aren't Buffy people; we tend to spend our time drinking, gambling and generally making nuisances of ourselves. I just so happen to be the artist of the group so I don't have to play by the same "man" rules.

Aww that's sweet of you! That's how I got Buffy and Angel. From one of my friends who wanted to me watch the show. Turned out to be one of the best things I've done in a long while.
 
I have persuaded people to watch BtVS before... I usually tell them that the show has won Emmys for its writing and that it's been nominated over and over for its special effects and acting. If that doesn't get them interested, I'll usally try to get them interested in watching at least one or two episodes. Depending on the person, I'll try to get them interested in the comedy or the love stories of the show. I don't focus much on the supernatural or the vampire elements of the shows unless the person is a big fan of stuff like that.
 
Basically, I'm able to get people into the show if they are wiling to take a weekend and watch 4 or 5 episodes consecutively. I've had no success just showing someone one episode as a stand alone.
 
In my 11 years of Buffy geekyness I never made anyone into a fan. But, the other day, Buffy started on SF tv, and my friend said she might give it a try. Of course, I geeked all out, and we watch it together every day 🙂
 
I limit myself to only mention that I have watch a show and that I liked it. That also goes for Buffy and Angel.

Don't really believe in persuasion (is that the correct word?) actually.
Just let them know the show exists. If they are interested they will watch it, if not so be it.

I agree, but sometimes it may take more than that. If you mention "I like this show called Buffy The Vampire Slayer" they'll be like "Ew, no thanks. I'm sick of vampires." But they could actually really like it if they gave it a chance, so sometimes you need to persuade them to actually watch an episode and see how they really feel about it. 🙂
 
I've persuaded one of my best friends to watch the show....now she's done a rewatch, and it's one of her favorite shows! I only got to watch the first three seasons with her, but it was soo fun!
 
Yes Ive Done it to my friend Who would Listen To Me Go On,and on and on about buffy and so i told him to watch it and he wasnt Quiet Sure So i Showed Him Quotes Pics And lots of other Things Now he is Just Getting Into it but i Can tell he loves it. he Always Is Saying " Thats Me Favorite Shirt. Thats Me Only Shirt!" haha so i call him Kendra 🙂
 
So the friend that I persuaded into Buffy is buying the first 2 seasons tomorrow. 🙂 I'm very proud of myself. I'm also excited to have a real friend of mine who's also a fan. 😛
 
I got my little brother into it, he's up to season 4 now 😛

It was funny, before he watched it he was very dismissive, but he always seems to like stuff I show him, haha xD
