Question Pet Euthanasia....

Sorry to hear about your loss.
I put my dog to sleep almost a year ago. I'd had him since I was 7 years old (I'm 25) and he was my baby. Even at his age, I still called him "baby puppy". He was dying of old age, he wouldn't eat or move or anything. We put him down because he was suffering in pain, he smelled bad because he was decaying from the inside out, and he would eventually die of starvation/dehydration.
I think we did the most humane thing we could do for him. Although it was tragic, and I cried like a baby when I felt is heartbeat stop in my hand, I feel like he is at peace.

I am truly sorry for your loss. Concentrate on the happy times that you had together, nothing will change that and no one can take them away from you.
We have had to put several pets to sleep for different reasons. Our lovely dog Shera was such an amazing dog but it got to the stage where she got extremely bad arthritis to the point she couldn't walk and my dad was carrying her around the house, as an Alsatian it is quite common for their hind legs to go.
Another heartbreaking one was when our kitten was poisoned (by someone who kept pigeons). Shauny came home and threw up in the garden, our dog Sumo (Shera's pup) ate the sick and also ingested the poison. When we found out what it was we had to have them both put to sleep as their insides were shutting down.
More recently our lab Lucy had to be put to sleep as it was discovered she was riddled with tumors, when she would eat all the nutrition was feeding the tumours and her internal organs were going into failure. We didn't want to see her suffer so we put her to sleep while my parents were with her.
I have this cat Bob, i've had him since I was 12, he has been my best friend for years, stayed with me when I was extremely ill with epilepsy and the thought of losing him cuts me up so much. I'm 30 now and Bob (along with Willow) lives at home with my mum. We recently discovered he has epilepsy and has some bad fits, he doesn't go out much and at times is incontinent. I'm also pretty sure he has dementia.
My parents and I have had 'the conversation'. At present he still has a good quality of life, he is comfortable, enjoys his food and is most happiest getting all the attention. He still has fits and Willow, the younger cat who is actually a tad evil watches out for him and whenever he goes out she follows him, she alerts my parents when he has a fit and is a pure gem to her big brother.
I don't want to lose him but I don't want him to suffer. Right now I don't think it has gotten to the stage where we need to take action, yes he is old but I refuse to have him put to sleep purely because he has old and has an illness. When it gets to the point that is clear to us that his quality of life is going then we will do what is needed. He has been far too good a friend and family member to see him suffer.

Yeah. I'm sure Max and Samie are doing the same thing. Looking down at what Oliver does and doesn't do. Watching Oliver be silly. Oliver is different then the other two dogs, Max & Samie. He is very playful and very pushy. I understand missing your pet that passed away. I know the feeling. *Hug*

Yeah, I did 🙂 I'm actually watching Dexter on tv right now, and my Dexter is watching too. I've never seen a dog that pays so much attention to the tv, its weird, lol.
