For motion capture, a stunt double for an actor may actually be the better choice. Why pay A-list salaries for a motion capture job when someone with the same body structure and moves can do the job for a fraction of the cost? You know the stunt double will be within an inch of all body measurements in terms of long bones in the body and general size. It might start a market for voice doubles. A-list salaries can pay for a lot of CGI.
But then you're taking the human element out of film. I'm not against special effects. CGI etc... when needed to make certain fantasy worlds come to life or for a monster or something. But they should not be at the expense of the human characters which is what the audience connects with.
