To: Vivendi Universal & Eurocom

I'm writing this petition in support of an Angel (of Buffy & Angel) video game for home consoles. After the success of the two Buffy games for X-Box , PS2 and Gamecube, it is in my opinion a good idea to release an Angel version. Vivendi Universal (as far as I know) holds the rights to Buffy and has done a great job with the games. The first Buffy game scored a nine on a scale of one to ten in Game Informer Magazine and four out of five in others. Developed by The Collective, this format was so popular, Eurocom kept it for the second game. The second Buffy game, developed by Eurocom, and done beautifully, scored an eight out of ten in Game Informes and simular ratings to the first one in other magazines. These are scores most developers only dream of. The only games off the top of my head that are higher are games like Halo, GTA: Vice City and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Coincedentaly, these are the games I would most like Angel to inspire the developers along with the prior Buffy games.

The interactive feel over all should be like the Buffy games, simple and good-looking. That's where the simularities should end in my opinion. Angel is a different kind of show. It's more serious and has a much darker tone and the first two seasons had almost a film noir feel to them. The graphics shouls be a smooth and clean as Halo or Splinter Cell, with top notch CGI cut scenes. There should be lots of detail and interactive elements when walking around and taking part in missions, simular to Splinter Cell. It should definitely be created for the X-Box to take advantage of the power and rich graphics. PS2 and Gamecube fans will also want a piece of this. Finally, this would be Eurocom's chance to make something as big and free roaming as GTA: Vice City and the upcoming GTA: SanAndreas. After all, the game takes place in L.A. It's a chance to have all kinds of exotic locals from the bright lights of Hollywood to the dark and seedy underground demon hideouts and hangouts and beautiful sunrise, sunset and starry night skies. (Don't forget walking through the sewers and Angel's car if you want to add a driving element.) RPG elements would also important considering they ARE called Angel Investigations. An arena option with tons of playable characters and wide open arenas. Eurocom should also be the developers since they've already created Buffy and can only get better with experience. This is a chance for them to spread their wings and challenge the bigger games out there with some innovative ideas, not to suggest that they already aren't, of course.  I realise this is a hell of a laundry list, (maybe not, I'm not a developer) but the more inspiration that is thrown out there there more there is to use.

The game should take place somewhere after Wesley's (Alexis Denisof) first appearance in the series, since Glenn Quinn is no longer with us. But before season four which most would agree was a low point for the series. (This is coming from a fan, I still love the show) Another idea would be during season five's Wolfram & Hart days, (lots of cars and gadgets to play with) and yet another idea would be to have it take place after season five with a story written by Joss Whedon. (He'll finally get his season six...sort of) It goes without saying the fans would love to see the cast get back together to do their own voice over work. I'm sure no one would mind seeing Faith (Eliza Dushku), Oz (Seth Green) and Drusilla (Juliet Landau) back in the mix. Spike (James Marsters) and Harmony (Mercedes McNab) are mandatory after season four and I'm positive everyone wants Cordy (Charisma Carpenter) if an early version is done, as well as Darla (Julie Benz). It goes without saying, Angel (David Boreanaz), Fred (Amy Acker), Gunn (J. August Richards) and Lorne (Andy Hallett) should be there. Depending on the storyline, also Connor (Vincent Kartheiser), Lindsey (Christian Kane), Lilah (Stephanie Romanov), Groo(Mark Lutz), Anne (Julia Lee) and Kate (Elisabeth Rohm). I wouldn't mind Merle the snitch (Matthew James) and The Oracles (Carey Cannon & Randall Slavin) for some hints along the way if I get stuck.

Again, this is a long list, but I, as well as millions of Angel and gaming fans around the world hope that Vivendi Universal and Eurocom decide to create a game that will appeal to Angel and non-Angel fans and be highly anticipated if done right.

By the way, this in no way implies we don't want Buffy 3. We're still waiting for an announcment on that one. Maybe Eurocom can alternate games? (said with a wink)

Thank you for you time!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

I think an Angel game would be WICKED! As long as you could play as Illyria whenever you wanted! As mentioned by me on the petition! lol! *cough-574-cough*

I'm number 634. I definitely would want this game. Buffy: Chaos Bleeds was really well done and the story was really good as a "lost" episode. I really enjoyed it, hopefully an Angel one would be just as good.

"But before season four which most would agree was a low point for the series."

I think it was a high point but blah.

Anywho, I will have news on this of some description soon. Not to sound vague but vague is fun.

Well I just became number 679 on the Petition.. I like the idea of an Angel game, but if it takes place during or after season 5, you have to have Illyra as part f the cast....

Bit of a silly petition. I'm about as big a gamer as anyone on the planet, but to try and petition people to make this game is a little funny. The two Buffy games for the xbox(and other consoles) consoles were top notch(the first one was way better). But companies don't care about review scores...well, except for WB, but that's a different story. They, like most other companies that offer a product care about sales. An Angel game would be cool, but sales-wise I'm not so sure. The first two Buffy games did allright in terms of sales, and Angel arguably isn't as popular a show as Buffy. It costs a lot of money and people to make a game. Also, the scope of that proposed game is a little big. Games like GTA are developed over a long period of time with very large teams of people. There will be future games based on the Buffy-verse, but it won't be because of a petition. It will be because of DVD sales and sales of other things Buffy related. Things that convince game-makers that this is a franchise that warrants game-making. Let's just hope these games aren't of the crappy "let's just get it out the door, and people will buy it even if it's crap because it's Buffy" variety.

Proudly no. 737! ANGEL game would be awesome. Does anyone know how the ANGEL soundtrack got the 'greenlight'? was it because of petitioning as well? If it was, there may be hope for an ANGEL game afterall.

True, but I like to dream anyway. GTA: Vice City took over 1 year to make and the new one is shaping up to take just as long.

Actually, those two games took longer than that. As games take longer, and longer to make, it becomes more and more cost effective for companies to work on sequels to games before their first game is even out. Game companies have multiple teams of people working on multiple games. San Andreas has been worked on for awhile now. Also, those games have had the benefit of having a game engine already. Just look at the likes of Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and Halo 2 to understand the development time needed to make a game of that caliber. Most the time licensed(movie, and television)games take less time, because the companies that make them just rush them out the door. Although they can be good, as in cases of "Riddick", and "Buffy", they tend to have a much smaller scope than the that of the GTA's, and the Doom3's. Companies making licensed games don't want long production time on their games because they stand the risk of releasing their game when the intrest in the license could be greatly diminished. Interest in Angel is high right now. The series just ended on a high, and fans want more. Imagine 2 year down the road though. Say there are no Buffy, or Angel movies in that time. Angel interest sadly would diminish over that time. Sure there would be the hardcore fans like us who would buy it regardless, but game companies need more than that. They need mass-market appeal in order to make a game of such high calibre as has been stated. That being said, I welcome any Buffy-verse games. It's a great license, and has potential for an amazing amount of high quality gameplay. Someone should make a GTA style Buffy game set in Sunnydale(much smaller city, and easier to make). Imagine being able to run around sunnydale, and kill Vamps at will. That would be cool, and not as big a production time as it would be to construct the city of LA in the virtual world.

That'd be so awesome. It could be along the lines of The Simpson's: Road Rage, which also was a smaller scale than GTA and required less production time. Darn it! I want the game now and it's not even imagined yet...lol.

Although the new Spider-Man game has a virtual New York, which is bigger. But would probably sell better. Then again if they made it well Angel has a potential to be a good game. Most of the people who bought the Buffy games were fans, so they would buy the Angel game probably. Plus a few more people may buy it as the shows have ended and consoles are becoming cheaper. PS2s are having a pricecut in the USA and the GameCube is selling for £40 in the UK in Index.

A new Buffy(or Angel)game could possibly be on the drawing boards somewhere already. Maybe even being worked on as we speak. The game industry is finicky. The movie industry openly states when, and where a movie is being made. Game companies usually don't disclose that information until mid-late in the production cycle. They rarely even say what they are working on. I guess we just have to wait till next E3 to find out if there are any more Buffy/Angel games on the not too distant horizon.

Just look at Fable for Xbox. That game is going to be huge. But how long is that taking to come out? Forevor. Same with Halo.

I am all for an Angel game, I own the first two Buffy games (the first one was FAR FAR FAR superior in my opinion) but what this guy is asking for is completely beyond what would ever come to fruition for an Angel game. A free-roam/RPG/adventure/Halo-style game...never going to happen. In fact, it's probably darn near impossible anyways.

My friend was at E3 this year (she was covering the release of Stranger, the latest title from Oddworld Inhabitants) and there was no news of an Angel game.

No, there wasn't an Angel game being showed off, but it actually might be being made secretly. Just to stoke the fire, Joss was at E3 this year with Cliffy B, the dude behind the Unreal game franchise. Also, I do agree that asking for a free roam RPG version of Angel is a little much to ask for. Production cycle on something like that(from scratch)would be a minimum of 2 years, maybe even 3.
