I kind of touched on this subject in another one of my threads but i thought it would be best to have a seperate thread for this topic.
If anyone has done philosophy AS/A level then have any of you ever noticed how many ideas from philosophy are used in tv programms and films.
I have a few that i can think of are
1. the matrix- seems very similar to a famous example of how we could be decieved which sometimes used to help explain descartes malicious demon/ decieving god arguemet, the example is "the brain in vat" which means we are a brain in a jar and a scientist is maiking us think we are doing certain things like living but really we're not.
2. the truman show- never seen it but that is also meant to help explain how we can be decieved.
3. In buffy- s6, not sure of the eps name, but its the one where shes in a mental hospital- fits in with descartes arguements, idealism, phenomenalism etc because theories like idealism say that all that exists are our minds and its contents, just like in buffys world and that existed was buffys mind and everything else like sunnydale was all just a part of her mind. the same could be said for the charmed episode where piper also believes she is in a mental hospital.
4. Tru calling- this entire series could be based on a famous moral question, is letting people die as bad as killing them, this seems to be the constant arguement between tru and jack.

Buffy- utilitarianism- buffy seems not to sometimes justify her acts as do other on the consequences rather than the act itself, for example ordinarily it would have been wrong to kill someone with a soul (angel) but it was his life for everyone elses so buffy kills him and noone question her actions because it was needed otherwise the consequences could have been dier.
There are more but i think i've made my point, can you think of anymore cos i tend to find this type of thing really interesting lol im sad i know lol!!!
