Can someone explain the context of this? I stopped reading the comics last season.

In issue 11 "Love dares you" Buffy kisses Spike

Here's a tl;dr: Buffy overhears Spike's conversation with Xander - Spike admits that he's ready to move on and that he's happy with his relationship with Buffy - a proper friendship in his own words. In the next issue Buffy tries speed dating, then goes out to slay some monsters with Spike. When they're done slaying she grabs his coat and kisses him.

Exactly, its almost as if Spike became more attractive when he was starting to become unattainable.

Gosh, could this be a pattern?

Oh my gosh, this excites me so much. I may start reading the comics again.

I'm still not getting too excited about one simple kiss, though, especially the "Buffy grabs Spike and tries to swallow his tongue," type of Kiss. That's how Season 6 started, and that wound up being just plain disasterous.
