Pike (Buffy's Original Scooby from the Movie) Twilight?

Oliver Pike (played by Luke Perry) in the Buffy Movie never really got closure, and I believe Whedon considers him to be canon. I didn't especially enjoy the movie, but I have wondered about what happened to him.

Could he be Twilight?
 
It would surprise the Hell out of me if he was Twilight, even though I've seen the possibility discussed. I was hoping Buffy's secret meeting in New York was going to be Pike,
but it was just stupid old Riley.

Is that true?
Some people say that Viva Las Buffy explains what happened to him. I guess it might be a close reasonable explanation, but the fact that Angel sires some one-off character in the late-90s in the book means that it's pretty far off from canon by default (in "Why We Fight," Angel says the only person he's sired since he regained his soul was Sam Lawson).
 
"Viva Las Buffy" isn't canonical, nor is the movie... but "The Origin" comic is, and Pike appears in that.

Twilight could be him, I suppose, but I don't know if Joss really would want to make it someone who would make 75% of his audience go.... "Pike who?"

Up until the missile attack, I honestly thought Twilight was Giles, under deep cover in an attempt to help Buffy by getting the trust of all her enemies and then backstabbing them at just the right moment (literally, in Roden's case). But I don't see him just standing by and watching Warren and Amy murder Slayers like that. Oh well.
 
Anyway, in Viva, Pike leaves Buffy because he concludes that having a normal human with her out in the field puts her in danger because she has to take risks to defend him. I guess similar to the reasoning Angel had in "I Will Remember You."

If that part is true of Pike, maybe Joss could flesh out Pike/Twilight's backstory from the late 90s through now, how he went on some sort of quest to get some mojo so he could aid Buffy in her fight rather than be a liability. Then by the time he got his Twilight-powers, he saw Buffy and the scoobies doing some morally ambiguous stuff, possibly including Buffy robbing banks and Willow almost destroying the world. So he came to the conclusion that the magics have corrupted Buffy, and he plans on saving her by eliminating all the magic.

I agree, I said Viva is pretty far off from canon since it partly directly contradicts it. Origin isn't canon either, Joss just says that it is very close, since his script for the movie was mostly canon and Origin was based on it.

I think Giles would be the most likely, but like you said, there are some dings against that theory.
