So, I've been a HUGE fan of Pirates of the Carribean since it first came out. First simply because they're the funniest movies I've ever seen Johnny Depp is in it, but now because I am noticing the major similarities between POTC and Buffy.

First off, the gorgeous Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom. He is Angel in a nutshell, only hotter, human, and less broody. 😀 Everything, from willing to die for his lady love to teaming up with Jack to play the big sacrificial hero is Angel. He's essentially the "good guy" in the show, always trying to do what's right. He's not genius, but he's not a "simpleton" either.

Next, our Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightly. She's the spitting image of Buffy. An absolutely beautiful girl that's slightly dim, but still very strong and capable. She also tries to do what's right, but is willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. She is a good deceptor, but overall is a fairly innocent girl. She can act rash, but, because of the time period, she's a bit more posh and refined than Buffy. Also, like Buffy, she loves our hero, Will.

Saving the best for last... Jack Sparrow. He's just. Like. Spike. Only better. He's absolutely HILARIOUS, the funniest thing I've ever seen. He's incredibly sexy, but not in the traditional way. He's sarcastic, and quite realistic. Seems idiotic and slightly mad, but is actually diabolically brilliant and randomly observant/ thoughtful. He's brash and a bit crude, acting the same way around everyone. No courtesy at all, though he does have heroic moments, like rescuing Elizabeth. He's one of those guys who never really tells the truth, and it's impossible to tell what side he's actually on, if in fact he's on any side at all. He's for himself, and seems to not care what happens.

Elizabeth and Will: Like Buffy and Angel, they seemed to fall in love from the moment they met. He treats her with uptmost chivalry and respect, and seems to have endless love for her. As I've previously mentioned, he'd die for her, just like Angel would for Buffy. Elizabeth would also go to slightly rash measures to save Will, and like Bangel they seem to have that "happily ever after" romance, while Jack is on the sidelines going on about rum. 😀

Will and Jack: Their relationship is quite similar to that of Angel and Spike. Although they fight, are evenly matched, and seem to hate each other, they never kill each other when they have the chance and have actually saved each other many times.

Jack and Elizabeth: Although I used to love Welizabeth, and I still do, I find this ship most interesting, seeing how it's pretty much Spuffy up to right before Out Of My Mind. When they first met, Jack saved her, even though he's a pirate and shouldn't care about such things. Elizabeth in turn always seemed to be slightly attracted to him, even though at the moments she was completely in love with Will. Jack definitely showed signs of being attracted to HER, and seemed to like her, but he wasn't in love with her or anything. At the end of Dead Man's Chest, Elizabeth kissed him, making it obvious that Jack felt something for her and wanted her (kind of like in Who Are You), and made Will think Elizabeth loved Jack.

I imagine, if the movies continued or were made into a t.v. show, that they would've taken on the same turn as Buffy. Jack would realize he loves Elizabeth, gets nicer and tries to woo her while acting rather creepy, Elizabeth blatantly rejects him, something happens with her and Will and they break up, she goes to Jack for comfort after getting horribly drunk, yada yada yada, blah blah blah, they become best friends, she falls in love with him... I can see it now. 😀

It's so similar it kills me. 😀 Like, in the first movie, when Will and Smith are all together in a sweet and loving moment, and then Jack says something completely random, and they just stare at him like "what the HECK is he on..." it's just like in Lovers Walk when Buffy is helping Angel and Spike is like "oh, yeah, just friends. No danger there."

Thoughts? Fans?

Wow, what a coincidence. I just rewatched the first PotC movie the other night. It's one of my favorite movies ever, although I'm not a huge fan of the sequels.

But you make a good point: the character dynamics are similar to Buffy. I think the relationship between Jack and Elizabeth especially mirrors the early stages of Spike and Buffy. Haha, and the similarities of Jack's reaction with Spike's speech in "Lover's Walk" is uncanny.

As Will Turner is the captain of the Flying Dutchman, how is he human?
I'm not knocking what you have written.
What will be in the next instalments, the fourth film, due for release next year.
Will we see more of Will Turners son?
Will anymore of the Rolling Stones be in it? We have Kieth Richards as Jack's father, maybe Mick Jagger could be Barbossa's father?
