PIVOT Episode Description for "The Wish"

So I have seen "The Wish" on the lineup for the PIVOT channel a few times over the past few weeks. And every single time, it irks me to see it say that an "evil genie" grants Cordelia's wish.

Part of me wants to laugh at the visual of an evil genie being a villain on Buffy. But the other part of me wants to send them an email and offer to write episode descriptions, since I've actually seen the show to know she's a demon, not a freaking genie. LOL
 
I have not seen that description. Since I already know what the episodes are about I usually don't read the descriptions when I see Buffy on TV. But that is kind of funny, because it is what yo expect someone who hasn't seen the show, to describe a wish granting demon. I can totally see someone saying 'oh she's like an evil genie' after hearing the plot of the episode. Although Anya doesn't live in a bottle or lamp so she doesn't fit the genie description. You should totally write the episode summaries! lol

Maybe they thought that it was actually an episode of 'Charmed'?

I mean, when I think 'wishing granting genie' on a genre show I think 'Charmed' (no doubt with lots of ensuing 'wackiness' or perhaps 'hijinks') they damn near threw anything else they could think of into the mix. 😕

Fun-ish fact: There was an evil genie in the Buffyverse- it was a 'Big Bad' for the Buffy RPG. It was actually called a Djinn ( basically a specific type of very old demon) and would grant wishes to thoughtless, greedy humans (and demons, and also vampires).
The recipient would gain some sort of supernatural power but ultimately they would be end up being consumed by the Djinn- their soul/life essence used to feed it/grant it power.
It was up to the Scoobies to stop the Djinn before it was free.

The same thing happens with TiVo and Family Guy episode descriptions. Doesn't it piss you off to know there is someone out there getting paid to write those blurbs and they don't even do a good job?
 
Actually evil genie is a pretty accurate description for Anya, considering the traditional definition of the djinn.

(A) race of supernaturally empowered beings who have the ability to intervene in the affairs of people. In Western lore djinn are sometimes equated with demons, but they are not the same. They are often portrayed as having a demonic-like appearance, but they can also appear in beautiful, seductive forms. The djinn exist in their own realm, probably a parallel dimension, and they have the ability – and the desire – to enter our world and interact with us. A djinni (singular) appears as a wish-granting “genie” in folk tales such as in The Book of 1001 Nights collection of folk tales.​

YES. It's like "You're getting PAID to write these things... you could at least watch some of the episode so you know what the hell you're talking about"!

I know the feeling. You have no idea of the absurdities that appear in the Italian version. Basically, are systematically eliminated all references to sex, and it is often the poor Xander that gets the worst things. Many of his comical lines are translated so horrible and completely lose any logical reference.

But the most beautiful of all is this: from "The Wish" Angel says "The Master rose. He let me live... to punish me."
In Italian they translated as "rose Master" That is, they have translated a verb believing it to be an adjective. Rose as Pink. Pink Master. 😵

Okay, I'm really the last person in the world that can criticize someone for the English proficiency, but they are paid to do that job.

Some language translations are tricky, especially when dealing with 'strange' genre shows. Words are all about context- still, as you say, people getting paid should do a better job.

The synopses I hate are the ones that have spoilers right there in the episode description, and they're far too common in practice, especially when Buffy can sometimes be described as a supernatural mystery show.

'Gingerbread': Buffy must fight a demon straight out of nursery rhymes that is whipping the town up into a frenzy.' No, that isn't a dead giveaway at all is it?🙄

Iisn't really a hard job- write an acurate, non-spoiler-y blurb for a supernatural series.
