Planning a trip to Europe...

Me and some people were planning on spending the summer over there, and hopefully getting to see as much of it as possible. Definitely England, Spain, Italy, and France. Maybe even dip into Africa. We're not sure.

Does anyone have any advice on cheap towns to stay in, advice, places we HAVE to visit, things to watch out for, anything?

We haven't really got an itinerary yet, so I'm completely open to suggestions. It's extremely exciting, but stressful, too.

See the Acropolis in Athens, and try to see it on a clear full moon night. The sight will stay with you for the rest of your life.

You have to visit Rome! It's the craddle of western civilisation (together with the Acropolis in Athens). When you go out to dinner there, don't go to the most expensive places, find a cheap pizza joint (shouldn't be too hard)... cause the cheapest and smallest ones were the best. Also Italian Ice-cream on the Piazza Navona is really a must.

I don't suppose I have to plug my country, because most people, I'm assuming, are already aware of our greatest tourist attraction: legal drugs.

I'm planning on going there next year. Woot should be awesome. I'm going though Rome>Paris>London and all about for about a month. Only know peeps on London though. Now I want to see Greece after what White Avenger said.

When you come to England, you should try for travelling distance to London(though not in London as it's expensive).
If you need a tour guide buddy, drop me a line - I do live in London after all.
I also recommend you spend some time in Austria. Its a beautiful country to relax in.

Rome of course - but definitely, definitely Venice too!! There is nowhere in the world like it. It is said to be the most expensive city in Europe, but that's only true if you're silly enough to spend stupidly. Stay in a cheap hostel and you'll be fine. I'd recommend the Hotel CaSa Linger, details of which you can find at hostelworld.com. I've stayed there every time I've been in Venice.

If you do put Italy on your itinerary, let me know and I'll give you details of all the places I stayed - I spent two weeks in Venice, Florence and Rome, staying in hostels, and I spent less money on accomodation for my entire trip than my ex-boss spent on three nights in a posh Venice hotel!!

I'm spending a year over there starting in April (that's the plan anyway....or at least til I run out of money 😉). Hopefully will see as much as I can but Greece is for some reason a must on my list.

I don't know why I want to go there. But I have for freaking ages so it would be a shame to go all that way and not.

It's generally cheaper to go to and stay in East Europe... I dunno if you wanna go to Russia etc., but I would really suggest Prague – beautiful city, not too expensive.

Don't go to Sweden, lol, then again, you probably weren't planning to, heh 🙂

Yeah, we don't plan on actually staying in London or Paris, but staying in places around them where it's easy to get to back. Mainly just to avoid heavy spending. We didn't really even think about Austria, though.

I suggest you come to Croydon near London. You can find some VERY cheap hostels and its not that far from central(an hour on a bus of 20 minutes on train - and if you get the late one, you basically ride fre(just don't tell anyone)

You should definately check out Barcelona when you're in Spain. I loved Gaudi's architecture and its a very colourful city and the Sagrada Familia is just amazing, even if its not finished yet!
Other then that I must agree with what most people said here: Rome, Venice, Athens, London, Paris,Prague,...Free drugs in Amsterdam (though the city is very nice too)
Go to Montmartre by night, its cosy!

And since I'm the representative of Belgian Pride here... come visit Belgium, its a small country so you can get anywhere within 1 - 3 hours time (for 4euro's per trainride when you're under 26). Brussels is the Capital of Europe and a great place to start off, since you can get to Amsterdam, London and Paris within 2-3 hours by train.You'll love the food, best chocolate and beer in the world and you'll really like towns like Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven, Durbuy, Bastogne, Waterloo, or my very own Mechelen. During the summer we have loads of music festivals and other activities and I wouldn't mind showing you around (I think I missed my calling as tourguide lol), and if I couldn't do it most (young) people in Flanders can speak English so you won't have any trouble getting around, we're very friendly 😉

And If you're gonna dipinto africa, I can really recommend Djerba (Tunesia) for relaxing all in holidays... oh and Turkey is nice too, though not in Africa. Bodrum is a party-ville... oh oh and Egypt!!! *gets all excited*

Edinburgh! Might just be the most fairy-tale like city in the world. So go visit.

Paris is another place worthwhile to visit and especially L'Musee de Erotisme (I think that's what it was called). We had so much fun there.

Come to Ireland!!! apart from the obvious attraction (we like to drink!!), there is alot of beautiful scenery (the burren, the cliffs of moher, giants causeway as well as countless catles, fairy forts, ogham stones...we got a lot of history going on!! Dublin is always up for the craic, especially Temple Bar...as well as Cork, Limerick and Galway...an we love tourists so you definitely won't be bored.

apart from that then its all the obvious ones, Paris, Berlin,Geneva (buts is very very expensive!!) oh and edinburgh! and you have to try Croatia and Greece!
