Playstation 3 Rant: Uhhh....WHY?!

I read an article about someone being shot over a PlayStation 3. I think its a shame someone had to lose thier life over a damned video game console.

I've also heard that Kerry's running mate, John Edwards, who wrongly got a Wal-Mart employee fired over this, whined and stomped out of a Wal-Mart when they wouldn't give him preferenial treatment over who gets a new PS3.

Maybe it's because I'm old, but I'm afraid I just don't get it. It's just a video game system, for chrissakes! It is NOT the Hope Diamond, nor a secret elixir to immortality.

People camp out for friggin' DAYS on a queue for one of these new systems, and generally make a big deal out of something that in six months will be on sale for half the price anyway (and by that time, bug-free).

Myself, I was a very avid gamer...even hardcore....and I still am a bit of a gamer when the mood strikes me.
I have owned many game systems in the past, so I'm not just some rookie at stuff like this. But I wouldn't murder an innocent over what is essentially an expensive TOY, nor would I throw a hissy fit if I weren't able to obtain one.

Also, there are people who buy these, then sell them on Ebay for as much as 5,000 dollars (I checked it)...and people actually pay it! It's actually quite sickening.
I'm sorry, but anyone who would pay that much for a game system needs to go on some serious medication...and perhaps a little shock therapy.

Okay, I can understand that some people's hobbies mean a lot to them. I get that. But this is ridiculous. And that's putting it nicely.
 
Here in Toronto two kids bought a 20M and 60M game. They then took the 20 out of it's box in front of all the people in line waiting to get one and smashed it with a sledgehammer. They wanted to see the shock value of everyone in line.
But wait it gets better they admitted to the newscamera that caught it that they were going to put the 60M game on ebay to recoup the cost of their little stunt and make a profit.
I agree with you OM it's just a frickn' game not the Holy Grail.
 
I'm not gonna lie, I would like to have a PS3. But there is no way in hell I would either wait in a line for days or pay 600 dollars for it. I'm just gonna wait a few months until the price is much lower and the hype is all gone.
 
Truth is I don't really care too much about video games, they were never the "coolest thing ever" to me although it seems like they are too a lot of people around my age and younger - especially my little sister (all she does is play Mario Party 5) - but that's just ridiculous. Seriously ridiculous. I mean, not just "oh, that's sad, and kinda stupid" ridiculous, I mean "WTF!?" ridiculous.
 
It's mainly because people are sheep, and buy into the hype. They're stupid.

My husband wants one, but no way are we paying $600 dollars for it, or buying it off e-bay. He had to wait a year for x-box 360, he can wait for this one too.
 
My hubby wants one also, and I am definitely not paying $600 for something that within 6 months to a year will be offered at $299. I think for a lot of people its just a fact of being able to say that they got one when it first came out. Sony and all these other companies know that they can get these ridiculous prices, and they know that the masses are ignorant enough to pay it.

Hey know! I like to think of myself as somewhat educated and I happen to enjoy reality TV from time to time... or ya know, every night (watching Amazing Race as we speak).

I agree with the waiting a few months. I don't understand the NEED to have it as soon as it comes out. There aren't even any good games out for it now. Wait a month or two, the prices will nearly cut in half, and there will be loads of good games out. That's what I'm doing anything... that and I don't have any money at the moment 🙁
 
I myself will be getting the PSP for christmas this year, not the PS3. It's probably a better deal than a $600 game consol. For a PSP(PlayStation Portable), you get mp3 space, mpeg space, movies to watch AND games to play. Oh, AND it's portable, so you can play it ANYWHERE!

So you may get 20 or 60 GB of space, but with the internet on there, it's basically just another computer. And if it's just another computer, why not by one of those for CHEAPER?! You get all the features without the hassel.

My step-brother keeps insisting he needs it, and it's almost driven me insane. He does NOT need a fricken game console that's $600 dollars, and if he want's it so damned much, he should save up his own money and buy it! So stop fricken talking about it every 2 minutes damnit!!
 
Good point OM! I'll agree with the "we live in a stupid world" theory... people like to tell they cheated on their partner on a freaking TV show... and will do anything stupid just to be on TV... not really surprised they'd fight over a video game... killing is pushing it too far... I agree with the shock therapy... definitely 🙂

That said.. I like video games... :silly: (not in that extreme way we talk about though eh oh!)
 
we will most definately be buying a PS3 but we will most likely go the same route as we did with the XBox 360. We bought it from a catalogue with a couple of games. yeah it cost a bit more but since we paid it up, we didnt notice. Think we'll do the same again. We can wait.
 
I don't know, I think if people have the money then they should go for it and buy the thing.

Obviously I don't think killing someone is a good idea, but the PS3 is worth allot of money, And people would probably kill for less. But I think when you say it was for the PS3 it sounds stupid, whereas f you say he was killed for $600, it sounds different.

I was one of those stupid people that had to have everything when it came out, The playstation, the PS2, then new cooler phones. But I'm such a clumsy idiot that I usually end up breaking allot of things, and after I dropped my Ngage in a toilet I said no more, and I would wait until things came down in price, that way if I broke them I wouldn't feel as bad, lol.

You can't really compare the PSP and the PS3 deal wise, The PSP has been out for ages and doesn't compare graphically to the PS3. It's not like a Creative MP3 player and an Ipod, which do the same things but are a different make. The PSP and the PS3 are completely different machines!

I don't think it's cuz people are sheep that they buy the PS3, Like when I used to buy everything straight away it was cuz I wanted it, not cuz everyone else did, and I don't want to wait half a year to play it.

The PSP has not been out for ages. A year and a half maybe, but not ages! Game Boy Advance has been out for ages.

yeah and they have the Gameboy DS now... not much differnce at all.. wow a touch screen.. my bro has one.. seriosuly not worth the price
$600...$600! LIke how about telling them to stick the PS3 up their you know whats!!! that price is just... gah.. why the hell would someone pay that much!! I mean i thought the X-BOX being $300-$400 was bad... i mean there wont be that much difference will there? maybe better graphics.. but doesnt the PS2 have the better grapics?? you know in 10 years time there will be a PS10... or a PSR2000 .. lame.. and i wouldnt camp out for a game.. its a game.... its not like it wont be there for you to buy later.. gosh!
